Adrian Veidt is a minor antagonist in Phase One of Absolution, later becoming a major antagonist in Phase Two and Three. He is a billionaire superhero and former member of the Illuminati.

Personality[]

Veidt’s defining character trait is being manipulative, tricking those around him for the sake of his own benefit. Despite this, the public still believes he is a hero, and he has the entire world eating out of his hand while committing massive acts of terrorism behind their backs. He even tricked his former teammates in the Illuminati and the indomitable wills of his team the Crusaders. While originally seemingly like an extremist who does what he does for peace, this is revealed to be a facade that slowly slips over the course of the series leaving him as an evil maniac. However, later on he does become genuinely affable and an extremist, treating Vought employees like a family.

History[]

Veidt is first introduced as a minor antagonist and member of Nyarlathotep’s cult. During the final battle of Phase Two, he faked his own death at the hands of Dr. Manhattan, and escaped unharmed without being punished by Azathoth. He became the second in command of the Illuminati, a group of the greatest evil minds in the universe, and tricked them all, secretly stealing a Death Note and hiring multiple parties to work for him. As a member of the Illuminati he realised that terrorism would be easier if their targets were made out of Alcatraz Matter, a material that is highly flammable and explodes under certain conditions. He constructed Alcatraz, a living island and bio weapon that can destroy continents and replace them. He was confronted by the Watchmen, a group of detectives formed by the Question, Taskmaster and Rorschach, and watched them battle off another member of the Illuminati, Nazo. Upon them reaching him, he revealed that he had activated it and destroyed America before they had reached him, killing thousands of innocent lives and replacing them with hollow Alcatraz Matter mimicries.

Veidt upon doing this was confronted by Adolf Hitler via Zoom Call, who had betrayed the Illuminati and threatened to take over the world. Veidt had placed a battery holding Dr. Manhattan behind Adolf for this exact reason, and released it, with Manhattan destroying Hitler and converting everyone else in the base into loyal Jews. He then called the Watchmen, asking them to assassinate the demon Stolas (whom Veidt owed money to) for him, and promised he would pay in thousands of dollars. When they failed to do so, he had the Illuminati capture them, before secretly joining Exetior’s gang and ravaging many worlds. When Palpatine, the leader of the Illuminati asked him about this, he said it was fake news, and later released a news story stating that it was a robot created by Palpatine to frame Adrian. Another news story, written by Sheldon J. Plankton, conflicted with this, and he used his Death Note to kill Plankton. Frieza, the strongest member of the Illuminati, threatened to kill him if he continued blaming Palpatine, with Veidt revealing Frieza’s name one letter off from being written in the Note.

Frieza announced his betrayal to Palpatine, with Adrian announcing his reformation of his company Stark Industries into Vought International and Advanced Idea Mechanics. Vought sponsored a group named the Crusaders, who’s members included Homelander, “Batman” (actually a hobo named Steve) and the Doomslayer. Ozymandias’ next actual appearance is in the Villain Pub, where he played gambling games with Shadow the Hedgehog, Walter White and Loki. Loki revealed he was working for the TVA, which captured the group and forced them to hunt down variants for Kang. While hunting down one variant, he was stranded in Heresy, calling Vought International to help him. Ironically, Frieza would once again serve as a minion of Adrian when he joined Vought due to a recommendation from Homelander, who Frieza became friends with leading up to a Tournament. Veidt remained a spectre, never seen, but is hyper-prepared for anything that might come his way.

He and Vought began an investigation into Mephisto, finding out he lived on the Moon and was broadcasting to Earth, telling them to look for the Horned Serpent. They later took a time machine and changed the course of the timeline to erase Mephiles, but it did not work, and the original Mephiles came back into reality. Finding this out, Adrian’s ego was broken, and he leaked all of Vought’s crimes onto the internet before killing himself. He became Clayton’s assistant in Hell.

Trivia[]
