Airachnid is the main antagonist of the Transformers: Prime fan comic made by EnvySkort, Insecticons: Survival.
She originally started out as a Decepticon until she became infected into a Terrorcon and was Banished to one of Cybertron's moons where she now feast on the Insecticons to survive. Her actions would then drove Mandible to resist her influence and set on a journey to save the Insecticons.
Appearance[]
Her appearance is the same as her mainstream counterpart from Transformers: Prime. Her appearance is based on that of an actual spider with built-in skirt armor plating is black with yellow stripes, four spider limbs on her back and as well as having mandibles on her face with a tongue mouth when she is ready to feast. She has a pair of purple eyes with a compound expression with purple being her primary color and a Decepticon symbol on her chest plate being a glowing purple as well. When unleashing her inner Terrorcon, is also equipped with a mechanical tongue mouth within her mouth that has pairs of fangs capable of sucking the Energon out of her victims to feast.
Unlike her mainstream counterpart, she remains only in her robot form throughout the fan-comic. In fact, she did not have a moment where she would transform to her vehicle mode as a helicopter or her drill mode to escape as she remains in this form the entire time. Despite this though, she did have part of her beast mode with her spider-limbs that she uses to crawl and fighting her opponents.
Personality[]
She shares the personality traits from her canon counterpart of the mainstream show. She is shown to be cold, murderous and cruel that fits for her demeanor as well as being manipulative as she controls the Insecticons to act as their queen. She is also a lot more bloodthirsty and opportunistic to satisfy her benefits on not only feasting on the Insecticons but to also deal with interference that stands in her way of feasting the entire hive and potentially all of Cybertron. In her fighting techniques, she is much strategic in fighting her enemies such as Mandible and to the point of being psychopathic in having a glee of torture she inflicted on her enemies. She did also have a brief moment of using sarcasm stating how Mandible broke her feelings after deeming her worthless.
She also has a side of being both petty and envious when she was able to meet Soundwave again as she taunts him for coming proving that she still has her rivalry with the Decepticon that she deemed as Megatron's favorite pet. That said, she has a trait of her vengeful side when she attempted to kill Soundwave for humiliating her and thwarting her plans of seeking to usurp Megatron and the Decepticons. When her tongue mouth was ripped off by Mandible, she has a furious moment to not tolerate this failure before having a fear for her death as Mandible managed to subdue the spider then killing her.
Biography[]
Past[]
In the events of Transformers: Prime, Airachnid was one of the many Decepticons who had joined Megatron in his conquest to defeat the Autobots as well as being responsible for the deaths of many Autobots including Tailgate and many alien species that she deemed as being endangered when she catches then. By then, Airachnid arrives to Earth where the events play in where she was brought back to the Decepticons and later on betrays them, even manage to take control of the Insecticons by using her frequency mind patterns to control the hivemind (with a possible hint that she carved an Insecticon and making this discovery to do the same as implied by Starscream) to attempt to assassinate Megatron though she was contained in a stasis pod. That is until she was free but infected by Silas and later Banished to one of Cybertron's moons to prison the plague she is infected with for good.
Though imprisoned on the moon, that didn't stop her from being a potential threat as she now became a Terrorcon and used the Insecticons as her cattle to feast on their Energon to sustain her health. In her recent activities, Mandible, among all Insecticon, recognizes this dangerous motive as he learns of being controlled and knew that it won't just be the Insecticons but the entirety of Cybertron to be her victims once she would consume all Insecticons to escape the moon.
Insecticons: Survival[]
As Airachnid continues to feast on the Insecticons, Mandible had a short-lived small gathering of Insecticons who had flew off the moon in their search to find Starscream to be a key to confront Shockwave assuming him to be the reason for the situation they were dragged into. By days of the search passed, Airachnid calls on Mandible 's group to return to her. Though resistant at first, Mandible's group succumbed to the influence, leaving him behind. After Mandible managed to retrieve Starscream, Airachnid had temporarily control of Mandible at moments before regaining his resistance after crashing.
Later on, Mandible returns to the moon having placed the nodules to keep him temporarily removed from the hivemind under Airachnid's control. Once she sees him unable to be controlled, a fight ensues between her and the Insecticon. Though she lost half of her top left spider-limb, she takes the advantage to blind him with his silk and stab him, wounding him. Just as she was about to feast on him while taunting him, Soundwave arrives with Airachnid, though distracted, decided to focus her attention to her old enemy. She scolds him for coming all alone only for Soundwave to speak in transmission that he is never alone. Just as she was about to kill Soundwave, Mandible regains his strength to attack, tearing her tongue mouth to stop her feasting on Soundwave. Realizing the mistake of falling for the distraction and agitated, Airachnid furiously attempted to order the Insecticons to kill Mandible and Soundwave, only to meet her demise as the rogue Insecticon punched a hole in her chest, destroying her Spark and ending her reign of terror.
Though Airachnid is dead, Mandible knew it was not enough as he removes and crushes the nodules with his motivations to show that the Insecticons should no longer be considered mere slaves and to finally be considered equals. Her head was later removed from her corpse by Mandible as requested to be brought back to Shockwave while being used as credentials as a part to prove his worth to be treated as an equal and officer in the reformed Decepticon movement much to Starscream's horror at first seeing her before being disgusted remarking that he finds her much disturbing when dead. Several months following Airachnid's demise and the day that the Decepticon cause was reformed, Shockwave came with an idea that despite Mandible's accusation on him for the Insecticons' situation with Airachnid from several months back, he became intrigued and inspired by the idea to use his mind to telepathically control his upcoming new army of Predacons with his thoughts while Starscream makes a joke that he should to do the same with the Vehicons.
Trivia[]
- This is one of the few incarnations of Airachnid to be still alive before they get killed in a final blow from her in fan-made adaptations along with her other incarnations.
- Though she is a Terrorcon and had been feasting on them to suck them dry, the Insecticons that she drained did not turned into Terrorcons as they instead became lifeless husks.
- In the comic, she remains only in her robot form as she did not transform into her vehicle mode as a helicopter or her drill mode to make her getaway.
- If it were not for Mandible, Airachnid would've successfully feasted on the entire Insecticons to escape her banishment and head to Cybertron to feast on the new generations of Cybertronians as having been adapted to be an even greater threat she posed herself to be.
