~ Alfred to Gordon after derailing him
Alfred: BLAST! Well goodbye Gordon, thanks for ruining my plans once again.
Gordon: Oh no, you're not going anywhere... I'm taking you with me.
Alfred: WHAT?! NO!
~ Gordon sacrificing himself, along with Alfred's last words

98462, or simply Alfred is the main antagonist of Sodor: The Dark Times. He is a vengeful, anthropomorphic steam locomotive who wanted revenge on Sir Topham Hatt and his Engines for banishing him away from the North Western Railway for his nasty attitude.

He was voiced by Richard Jordon, otherwise known online as Skarloey123.

Biography[]

Sodor: The Dark Times[]

Before the events of the series, Alfred had been sent away after being rude and causing a big accident, where he had supposedly been Scrapped.

Sometime after Henry left for Wellsworth, Alfred had planted gunpowder in his smokebox, causing a burst which lead to a crack in his smokebox killing him instantly. 20 years later, Alfred had been purchased by The Fat Controller again after the railway had been facing bankruptcy, The engines then see Alfred arriving to Knapford where they welcome him to the railway, though Gordon already did not like him.

Later that night, the engines were fast asleep though Alfred had left the sheds which woke Gordon up before falling back to sleep. Alfred then appears in Gordon's nightmare where he had been the reason behind Henry's death, after this nightmare Gordon had decided to keep in eye on Alfred as he had became skeptical of him, though this ended up depriving him of sleep.

One night, Gordon got up and idled in Knapford's good shed. His driver was about to go home until Gordon noticed two figures in the station platform, one was Alfred and the other was indistinguishable. Alfred is shown in Knapford discussing with the other engine about Henry's death and that the gunpowder they're going to use is arriving soon, the other engines asks if he plans on already using it. Alfred then decided to not use the gunpowder yet as he wants to give the engines time to accept him, making them not suspect him for causing Henry’s accident, before leaving the Station as the sun is about to rise.

The next morning, Gordon and Alfred were double-heading a special to England (The Mainland). Throughout the journey Gordon felt nervous, yet hatred grew inside of him as they went along. After they reach The Mainland, Gordon and Alfred went to the sheds to rest, there were no other engines there. When Alfred tells Gordon that he was built in Stratford, Gordon says that he knew another B12 that had the same build number as Alfred, who was supposedly scrapped by Sir Topham Hatt due to being rude and that he had caused a big accident, along with saying that said engine had caused a fatal accident in relation with Henry. Alfred then quickly realizes that Gordon had overheard him and his associate the other night at Knapford station about his plot. The two then argue about the engines at Sodor and that The Fat Controller now trusting Alfred, with Gordon saying that the Fat Hatt wants him as far away from the railway as possible.

Alfred then states that a chain of gunpowder wagons are already being sent towards the sheds near Knapford station. Gordon tries to stop the wagons from reaching Knapford, but the B12 pushes him off the rails and leaves while wanting to destroy the railway and have his class take over, before leaving Gordon in the dust. Luckily his driver and other workman lift him back on the rails and heads back to Sodor as fast as possible. Unfortunately, he was too late as the station explodes, Killing Thomas, James, Percy, and Edward along with 15 station workers.

Due to the terrible decision of bringing Alfred to the railway, The Fat Controller will be resigning, due to the damage done to the railway. Moments later, Alfred comes across Cecil (who is actually 87546) at Elsbridge station, Cecil scolds him for his terrible actions and that he had never once asked him to destroy a station with the gunpowder wagons he ordered. He then states that Alfred will be dealt with and be followed wherever he goes, and that any attempt at destroying anyone else will mean the end of him. Because of this, Alfred then kills Cecil and fled off-screen.

Alfred starts causing several more bombings around Sodor, The Mainland, and any conspicuous locations that could link back to him. All the way to the other railway, Alfred is seen approaching to some sheds, where Gordon’s brothers (including the Flying Scotsman) and another GCR Class 8k Locomotive are there and lies to the other engines that he’s looking for a rest at the sheds.

Alfred "rests" at the sheds for a little (while he had placed gunpowder vans in the back of the shed) and prepares to leave when Gordon arrives at the sheds, just in time to warn them about the bomb inside the sheds, causing the engines to leave. After this failed attempt, Alfred tries to escape, but Gordon decides to sacrifice himself by pushing Alfred into a train of gunpowder vans behind him, which causes the sheds and the gunpowder to explode, Killing both Gordon and Alfred for good.

Quotes[]

I've got you now, this gunpowder will ignite before you reach wellsworth.
~ Alfred in Gordon's nightmare.
Alfred: It's been several years since Henry's uh "Accident", It's come to my attention that the gunpowder is arriving soon.
GCR Class 8k: Soon? you're not planning on doing it now are you?
Alfred: Not quite yet, we still need to give engines time to accept me as one of their own. They never suspected fowl play, so they'll won't suspect little 'ol me of anything
GCR Class 8k: You're very sly, we better leave now it's almost light.
Alfred: Good idea, good night my brother.
~ Alfred with another engine.
Alfred: You are a quiet one aren't you?
Gordon: I'm just tired is all, barely slept last night.
~ Alfred and Gordon.
Gordon: So... You were built in Stratford hmm?
Alfred: That's right.
Gordon: I knew a B12, he came from those works with the build number, 98462 The Fat Controller scrapped him though, as he was rude and almost caused a big accident. The Fat Controller has that power you know.
Alfred: ...So what?
Gordon: Well... This engine nearly shall I say... Caused a fatal accident in relation to Henry.
Alfred: You foolish A3, you heard last night didn't you?
Gordon: Yes I did, I know all about your little scheme, you want all the engines to like you and then the railway goes up in smoke.
Alfred: They're SMARTER than that you know, apparently not. The Fat Controller has designated me to pull the WildNorWester from now on, they trust me with their lives.
Gordon: The Fat Controller wants you as far away from the railway as possible more likely.
Alfred: Is that so? then how did they not suspect me of Henry's death hmm? they sound pretty ignorant to me, the weak engine with all the problems. I knew he was a failed experiment, and that they'll never suspect fowl play.
Gordon: You'll never touch them, not as long as I'm around.
Alfred: You can't stop this you fool, a chain of gunpowder wagons are being propelled forcefully towards the sheds this very instant.
Gordon: I'll stop it.
Alfred: YOU SHAN'T!
~ Gordon's confrontation with Alfred before being derailed by him.
Just a few more minutes, and it'll happen.
~ Alfred
Cecil (87546): You DO know this stupid attempt may as well put our funnels under the guillotine.
Alfred: You ORDERED it Cecil.
Cecil (87546): I never once said 98462 go and destroy a god damn station, you KILLED nearly 20 people from what I heard. You've been too cold-hearted, you killed innocent people, exactly the opposite from what I expected from you. You WILL be dealt with, You WILL be followed wherever you go, and any attempt at destroying anyone else will be the END of you.
~ Cecil's warning to Alfred before being killed by him off-screen.
Alfred: I need to hide here for the time being. I'm being watched, and I can't be seen.
Unnamed Engine: ...Very well, get in the shed.
~ Alfred hiding in the shed (before likely blowing it up)
This is absurd, how could my plan have backfired so badly?
~ Alfred
LNER A3: Look it's one of our own, how are you doing mate?
Alfred: Very well thank you, i'm looking for a bit of a rest, can you show me the shed?
Other GCR Class 8k: Certainly!
~ Alfred and two other engines
Alfred: Very nice shed my cousins.
Other GCR Class 8k: Thank you number 3. Were you just recently built? I haven't seen you around here.
Alfred: ...You could say that.
Alfred: ...I'm sorry gents, but I must go now.
~ Alfred's attempt at killing the other engines in the shed until Gordon shows up.
