Workers of the World Unite!
~ Motto of the APR

The American People's Republic, the People's Republic, APR, United Socialist States of America (USSA) or Communists/Reds for short, is a far-left Communist, Collectivist faction organized in Washington state by Communist sympathizers, remnants of the Chinese shell companies and PLA, who wanted to establish their own ideology and authoritarian state. The APR is based in the American Northwest, plays a major role in the North American Arc and is one of the main antagonistic factions in The Dark Future trilogy, currently at war with the American Reich.

History[]

After The Great War, the People's Republic was the first faction to rise from the ashes of the ruins. In 2062, the government headquarters in Seattle began to become unstable after running out of supplies, food shortages and crisis, panic due to the emergence of mutants, and later chaos, violent riots and armed rebellions, which communist militants took advantage of to overthrow the local government and take control, and loyal government and military officers were captured and brutally executed. When they were formed, they proclaimed a People's Republic, consolidating their power and introducing strict communist policies. They then began their aggressive expansion, bringing in anarchists and armed rioters, thus increasing the power of the People's Republic. Their first successes came in 2064, when they captured several neighbouring small towns, shelters and stations in Washington State before clashing with the Reich's Nazi troops, with whom they had since been at war and had drawn the Red Line.

Overview[]

Government[]

The American People's Republic is a communist military dictatorship ruled by the communist state. A totalitarian militarized police state, led by Prime Minister Harrison Yakovich and his right hand man General Secretary Victor Rosenberg who created the Seattle Socialist Workers Party. They have absolute power over the country and the People's Republic is under their tyrannical corrupt control, but behind the scenes the remnants of the Chinese front companies have a high level of influence. The People's Republic is explicitly modelled on Joseph Stalin's Soviet Union, and they have a violent propaganda campaign, strict laws to control the civilian population and to accept the ideals of the communists. They have set up a political police force similar to the KGB to watch citizens if they are dissatisfied with the state, the Party and their ideas. Any citizens who opposed the communist state and its revolutionary ideals were executed on the spot or captured and taken to the Gulags, which were made out of post-war facilities. They organise proletarian revolutions against other factions, which they achieve by setting up Workers' Councils, and some neighbouring factions which they annexed set up communist puppet states and act as joint political economic alliances similar to the Warsaw Pact. The People's Republic operates a highly collectivist, paramilitary terrorist organization, The Collective, made up of the most loyal members of the People's Republic, known for their brutality and ruthlessness. The radical far left organization is used to weaken and overthrow warring enemy factions like the Reich through propaganda, guerrilla warfare, proletarian revolutions, assassinations, terrorist attacks, kidnappings and sabotage.

Ideology[]

The ideology of the People's Republic is a particular version of Marxism, Leninism and Maoism, based on the values of collectivism and socialist revolution after nuclear war. The APR's is a hard-line communist party-state, modelled on the Stalinist Soviet Union, with strict laws. Anyone perceived to be disaffected or opposed to the communist ideal and an enemy of the party and state was executed or sent to the Gulag. They promote the People's Republic as the best communist society, where democracy, equality, peace and work await, but in reality it is dictatorship, slavery and slave labour. They achieve their ideals by every means of propaganda, with communist flags and portraits of famous communists on their bases. They also distribute propaganda leaflets and newspapers containing communist dogma. They hire special people who pretend to be independent and ordinary citizens and organize lectures or rallies where they praise and promote the heads of state of the People's Republic and the communist ideal.

Society[]

The People's Republic is under Communist rule, led by Minister Yakovich and Party General Secretary Harrison, who have absolute power and a high personality cult. The two are the supreme leaders of the Communist government, and their narrow party members and workers' council. Washington has created numerous communist factions who have revolutionized and overthrown local governments. The communists united and formed a unified brutal police state and totalitarian dictatorship and cracked down on anyone who was not a communist. They organised proletarian revolutions through their workers' councils, overthrowing and annexing hostile factions, in which the influential Communist Chinese bureaucrats participated and exerted influence over the country's economy. They were organised in the Workers' Councils, modelled on the Warsaw Pact countries, and they controlled and influenced every faction in society. Citizens living under the rule of the People's Republic are forced to adopt their strict way of thinking and ideals because if they don't the communists condemn them to death or send them to death camps. Although there are no official classes, party members and leaders enjoy privileges, while workers and peasants work in harsh and poverty conditions. All citizens are expected to report immediately anyone who is dissatisfied with the communist government and its leaders, even if it is a friend or family member.

Economy[]

The economic system of the People's Republic is based on a specific combination of capitalism and socialism. Communists have a combined economy policy, strict economics and trade unions, demanding that people redistribute wealth so that those who don't have it can have it equally distributed. They also have a social market economy, in the hands of private Chinese companies, which provides free market trade for all, but does so corruptly with unequal distribution. The people of the People's Republic live in poverty, as there are sufficient resources for their needs, but most of them are in the hands of the Communist government and private Chinese companies, and much of this is spent on the war against the American Reich.

Military[]

The People's Republic is one of the largest factions in America, with all of Seattle under their control, and many other neighboring cities, metro stations, and facilities throughout Washington State. The Communist military is one of the strongest forces, as they can recruit a lot of men into the Red Army, with a population of 620,000, which they can easily replace. The People's Republic provides a lot of resources for military investment, so the Red Army has a lot of resources and can maintain its numbers. This includes the remaining PLA militia who have also been absorbed into the Red Army. They use the pre-war AK-102s, M16A3 and QBZ-191 assault rifles. They also have other arsenals, combat vehicles and equipment used by the US Armed Forces. Despite its large and powerful army, the Communist soldiers are poorly equipped and untrained compared to the Reich soldiers, who in turn have a smaller army but are better equipped and trained.
