Unbeknownst to them that Copper is best friends with the young fox. One night - Slade encountered The Great Stag who protects Tod. After Chief chased Tod to a train track - the old hound dog accidentally fell off the track and is killed. Amos Slade tried for the final time to shoot Tod with his rifle. But then - Copper protects Tod. When Slade sees the emotion in Copper's eyes - he remembers the day he accidentally killed Simba's mother Sarabi.
