The Anime Cartel are major antagonists of the Australian adult-animated web series SMG4, serving as the titular main antagonists of The Anime Arc.
They are a criminal organization that smuggled anime-related items into the Mushroom Kingdom throughout the time of the anime prohibition. Their members kidnapped the manga artist Axol (sharply their idol), purloining his magical pen Inkweaver to use to make an army of duplicate anime characters to do their bidding. Francis was the leader of the organization before his death.
History[]
In a short time after Princess Peach banned anime in the Mushroom Kingdom due to extensive damage caused by citizens who are very obsessed with anime, the Anime Cartel was formed, with Francis becoming their leader with and Lemmy Koopa joining at some point. The organization became notorious due to breaking the newly made law, since then.
Lemmy managed to bring Mario and Fishy Boopkins to become members and tasked them with smuggling a truck that's filled with crates carrying anime-related content. However, Swagmaster69696969696 destroyed the goods by using an RPG when the A.S.S. set up an ambush to attempt and capture Mario and Boopkins. Enraged at the wrecking of an entire truckload of Anime, Francis was about to execute Mario, Boopkins, Bob and the A.S.S' Lieutenant-Major SMG4, until the latter assured him to spare their lives and give them one last chance. He followed and ordered them to guard Saiko to Japan. Before they go, Francis orders Mario to stay, because he has a mission for him: pay the group back for the money they lost, or else he will ruin his kneecaps.
Mario agreed and opened up a lemonade stand so that he can make some money, but later on he found competition in the form of Jeeves, who wanted revenge after Mario messed up his milk company. fortunately, the Anime Cartel appeared to help Mario and Tari (who in some way wasn't arrested by the A.S.S.) since Jeeves was an obstacle to the former's debt. A battle then results but was stopped by Meggy who was being restless and also some shot cruel words at them. As a result, Jeeves and Francis cried and hugged each other, while Mario and Tari were hauled away by Meggy to the Splatfest.
The cartel was still fighting the authorities, three weeks after the anime ban, as shown in SMG4: The Japan Trip.
The Anime Cartel dropped over Axol when they saw him upon hearing notice from Saiko Bichitaru to come and aid her, causing him to kill almost all of them and showed the remaining four members (containing Francis) what he could do with his magic pen in the episode SMG4: Mario Saves Anime. Nearly after, the Cartel began to overwhelm the A.S.S. agents who were guarding Peach's Castle, letting Mario and the others to sneak by.
When Peach unbanned anime from the Mushroom Kingdom, the Anime Cartel seemingly disbanded, as there was no reason to secretly smuggle in anime anymore.
However, In SMG4: Mario and the Experiment it is said that it wasn't the end of the Anime Cartel as Francis has made it into an evil organization again. He ruled them to abduct the Inklings (even Meggy), and also abducted Axol so that they could torture him. They stole Inkweaver in order for Francis can use the Inklings' ink to fully power up the pen, so he can create his own waifu island.
In SMG4: Final Hours, Francis was leisurely murdered in a spare zuccer used to drain Inklings of their ink by Saiko, as payback for what he did to them and for ending Desti's life. As he was stuck in the machine when the island exploded due to Goku's self-destruction, he passed away in the blast, but it's currently left unknown if any of the Anime Cartel survived.
