Arceus is the overarching antagonist of the 2021-2023 fanfiction Pokémon: The Lost Child written by Ordeaux26. He is the god and creator of the entire Pokémon universe who instead of being mostly morally neutral like in canon is written as a tyrannical egotist who wants to wipe out the entire world as revenge for his banishment, after he was overthrown for his cruel practices. He, in one way or another, is responsible for much of the events of the series.

Personality[]

Arceus in canon is presented mostly as a neutral force, mostly unwilling to act but not actively malevolent and only harming mortals if they directly become a problem for him, or if they present an active threat to the entire world. This is in huge contrast to Arceus' portrayal in this fic who is presented as a tyrant who ruled over his creations with an iron fist, willing to wipe out those who disobeyed him. Arceus would even mistreat the gods below him who he created to the point where they would eventually rebel against him and imprison him inside of a dimension with absolutely nothing inside of it.

Arceus would grow vengeful during his imprisonment eventually deeming all of his creations a failure and sought to wipe them all out in order to restart everything from scratch, so that he could be worshipped once again. As eventually everyone started to forget about Arceus beyond him being a vague godly symbol.

History[]

Not much is known about how Arceus came into existence, but after he did he created the entire Pokémon world and all of the creatures inside of it. He installed himself as the supreme being over the entire world and would create several other gods to help him manage the world. Arceus, however, was a vicious tyrant who mistreated all of his creations, including all of the gods under him, regularly wiping sections of them out if they were ever a problem for him. One of his more noble gods Deoxys would lead the rest of the gods into overthrowing Arceus. They confronted him on top of the Spear Pillar to overthrow him, Arceus initially laughed this off and quickly tried to dispose of all of them. Despite their combined power, Arceus was still getting the upper hand and already killing some of them off. The rest of the gods regrouped and came up with a plan to imprison Arceus inside of a different dimension so he would no longer be able to do anything. Deoxys and Mewtwo worked together to imprison Arceus but before they could Arceus was able to take out several of them, Mewtwo included.

Arceus' imprisonment, however, ended up causing the remaining gods to start fighting each other to fulfill the power vacuum that had been created. The most notable one being Darkrai who founded The Brotherhood in his efforts to control the world. Even worse, despite Deoxys thinking Arceus wouldn't be able to do anything while stuck in this dimension, Arceus still had some control over the world, though it was limited compared to the power he had before. Arceus doing this was able to get Darkrai to work for him by threatening the life of his son Aegislash.

Arceus stays mostly unknown for the majority of the series, but had been secretly observing and manipulating events throughout it. Arceus had become aware of a Piplup and Treecko that could be a threat to him, it is unclear just how much he knew though at the time. Arceus had been subtly manipulating the conflict between the heroes as well as The Brotherhood at one point disguising himself as Mewtwo in order to increase the battle. Arceus was doing this mostly in order to facilitate his return by getting rid of any opposition to his return.

When The Brotherhood failed in taking control of the world Arceus would end up blowing the base of it to take out everyone inside. It is strongly implied that Arceus deliberately orchestrated all of this so that he could take out everyone at once. And while he was able to take out nearly everyone Aegislash was smart enough to escape and Empoleon, Sceptile and Zoroark were teleported out by Deoxys. At the same time, possibly as a backup plan or after Arceus found out the heroes survived, Arceus would murder the entire gang of one of Empoleon and Sceptile's old enemies Watchog and manipulate him into thinking they were responsible instead of him. Watchog would try and take Empoleon and Sceptile down himself but after failing Arceus used that to manipulate him into thinking that the only way to defeat them is for Arceus to be freed so that he can take them out.

Watchog with Arceus' help was able to prevent the heroes from stopping his return and eventually Arceus was freed from his prison. Watchog wanted to kill them right away but Arceus decided to let them watch as their world falls before dying. However, Deoxys would show Watchog that Arceus was responsible for killing his gang and not the heroes. Arceus ends up sadistically revealing that he was responsible and when Watchog tried to attack him Arceus effortlessly defeated him, though this gave the heroes time to escape. Arceus brushed it aside though and started summoning his attack to destroy the entire world which took the form of a giant ball in the sky.

Arceus was certain that victory was on the cusp of his hands, but the heroes gathered many Pokémon together to confront Arceus and stop him. They had all put up a good fight but Arceus was strong and they had trouble defeating him. By the time it looked like they were getting the upper hand, Arceus' attack had been completed and was going toward the planet to destroy it. The heroes tried to stop it but they were all unable to, Deoxys however realized what he had to do and charged himself into the blast destroying it. However, taking all of this at once was killing Deoxys but as his last sacrifice, he used Mirror Coat on Arceus dealing all the damage back to Arceus causing both of them to explode killing Arceus and ending him for good.
