Ashfur is the villainous protagonist of Mary On A Cross, a Warrior Cats AU multi animator project hosted by tootall buggy. He Was a ThunderClan warrior who tried to kill his ex-mate's kits by lighting the forest on fire, though this backfired when he was crushed by a burning tree. Some years later, his spirit came back to possess Bramblestar, after which he killed Squirrelflight before getting killed himself.
Appearance[]
Ashfur is a light gray tom with light blue eyes and red pupils. His nose, tongue, inner ears and paw pads are all light blue as well, and he has longer, dark gray fur running from his forehead to the bottom of his neck, with the top part resembling bangs. He has a white face with a pair of large, dark gray spots over his eyes, as well as dark gray stripes stretching from the corners of his mouth to the edges of his face, giving the appearance of a smiling skull. His front right paw and the underside of the base of his tail are white, and he has large dark gray spots on his back and a broad stripe going down the upside of his tail. His back, the underside of his tail tip, and the toes on his front right paw are all a slightly darker gray, and he has a V-shaped marking of the same shade on his neck. Finally, he has a dark gray heart-shaped mark on his right hind leg.
As a StarClan cat, he has a large gash on the top of his snout, with bright pink blood leaking out. As a Dark Forest cat, his throat is slashed open, with black blood.
While possessing Bramblestar, he appears similar to the leader, being a large brown tabby tom with dark brown stripes and a cream-colored underbelly and face. However, his fur is darker shades of brown and more ragged, and his eyes are blue and red rather than yellow and orange. He also keeps his skull-like markings, and the cross on Bramblestar's forehead is now upside-down.
Biography[]
Ashfur was a ThunderClan warrior in love with his Clanmate Squirrelflight, often admiring her when the two would go hunting together. However, Squirrelflight ultimately chose Brambleclaw as her mate over him, leaving Ashfur enraged with heartbreak. When Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw adopt Leafpool's kits - Hollykit, Jaykit and Lionkit - his anger and sadness only increases.
One day, when the kits are older, Ashfur storms out of camp after angrily watching Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw play with them. While out in the forest, he finds a burning branch, picking it up and running back to camp with it. He uses it to set the whole camp on fire, and though most of the Clan escapes, Squirrelflight and her kits are trapped inside. Ashfur then confronts her, blocking the exit while singing to her threateningly. As the orange she-cat yells at him, he taunts her, causing her to slash him across the face, leaving a large gash on his snout.
Ashfur starts walking towards Squirrelflight and the kits, his blood getting on Hollykit's face. He's attacked against, and touches his face, realizing that she wounded him as he looks at the blood on his paw. He then lunges for her, but a burning tree falls and crushes him. Now terrified, Ashfur begs Squirrelflight to save him, but she glares at him in disgust before gathering up her kits and leaving him to die.
Several years later, the three kits are now adults, with Hollyleaf and Lionblaze being warriors while Jayfeather is a medicine cat. Brambleclaw has also succeeded Squirrelflight's father Firestar as the leader of ThunderClan, now named Bramblestar. As Jayfeather goes to sleep one night, Ashfur's spirit appears to him in his dreams. He tells the medicine cat that Squirrelflight had attacked him and left him to die in a forest fire years ago, withholding that he tried to kill him and his siblings to make himself look innocent. When Jayfeather wakes up, he confronts Squirrelflight over Ashfur's death, with her looking away guiltily. Hollyleaf and Lionblaze are shocked by this, and begin to lambast her for causing the death of a supposedly innocent Clanmate.
During the commotion, Bramblestar suddenly passes out, interrupting the argument and drawing everyone's attention. As the gather around the leader's body, Ashfur's spirit enters it, and Bramblestar's eyes fade from yellow and orange to red and blue. Now possessing the leader, Ashfur gets up and immediately tackles Squirrelflight, pinning her down. Not yet realizing something's wrong with her mate, she smiles and gets up to hug him, which he's uncomfortable with. Angered by this, he bites into her right shoulder. As she backs away in fear, Ashfur sings to her in the same way he had during the fire, causing her to realize that he is possessing Bramblestar. Ashfur then grabs her by the scruff with his teeth, tossing her off the highrock.
Squirrelflight dies on impact as her family watches in horror, and as everyone rushes to her body, Ashfur runs out of camp. Hollyleaf sees this and runs after him, following him to the lake. There, Ashfur looks into the water and sees Bramblestar's refection fade into his own, sighing. Hollyleaf then ambushes him from behind, killing Bramblestar's body with a bite to the throat.
During the credits, Ashfur is seen having been ejected from Bramblestar's now dead body, and now wanders the Dark Forest. He then runs into the spirit of Hawkfrost, a RiverClan warrior he'd conspired with in life to try and kill Firestar, in a failed attempt to make Squirrelflight suffer. He's surprised to see Hawkfrost, who turns to him and gives a menacing grin.
