~ Assistant Steve to Sabre.

Assistant Steve is an antagonist of Twisted Rainbow. He is voiced by FavreMySabre and is the alternate universe counterpart of his original self and Professor Red, who are now fused as one.

Personality[]

Unlike his original counterpart which expressed forms of human emotion, this version of Assistant Steve is monotone and robotic. He is designed to follow the directives assigned to him. Despite having a connection to Twisted Rainbow, he seems to oppose him to the point where he considers members of The Darkness "friendly." Unfortunately, despite his feelings, he is bound to the commands programmed to him by Twisted Rainbow unable to have free will of his own.

History[]

Installation[]

The Darkness, lead by Shadow Sabre, ravaged the Red Kingdom after Twisted Rainbow left for a while. To protect himself, Twisted forces Professor Red to create Assistant Steve, rushing him to work and removing his voice so that he can't talk back. Professor Red installs a failsafe, allowing the AI to potentially be given sentience. Due to insufficient energy output, Assistant Steve is installed into the walls of the Core, the Red Kingdom's power source, as a security measure. However, the Assistant has limited energy capacity, making it unsure on whether he could function as ordered. Twisted, tired of all the setbacks, take his anger out on Professor Red. He decides to take matters in his own hands by using his powers of essence merging. He forcefully merges Professor Red with the Assistant as the two become one being, with Assistant being the dominant personality and it being unclear whether Professor Red's consciousness is still present. He was a given a command as Twisted's contingency plan. If he dies, then Assistant is tasked to kill all.

Reactivation[]

The Core is stolen by Sabre, despite Shadow Sabre's best efforts to protect it. When Shadow returns to confirm that the Core is gone, Assistant Steve activates, declaring Shadow an intruder and preparing to fire at him with a laser. When Shadow mentions Twisted Rainbow, Assistant Steve deactivates his kill mode at the last second. He now considers Shadow "friendly" after he elaborates on his rivalry with Twisted. Assistant Steve suddenly shuts down to reserve power. Shadow finds use in the robot and decides to take him with him. He drags Assistant Steve out of the Red Kingdom in case Sabre returns, only to find M sitting in the ruins instead.

Shadow and M travel together. Later in the night while they're asleep, Assistant Steve reactivates. Due to Twisted Rainbow's forced fusion with Hypno Steve, he was considered deceased. His directive begins to change to the contingency plan Twisted Rainbow had set up for him. He declares that he will eliminate all lifeforms and sneaks away from the pair. M does notice he's missing early in the morning and goes after him, to no avail. While walking, Assistant discovers a confliction in his programming. Despite not being physically present, his energy signature was still around. In his attempts to erase the problem, he enters his default programming made by Professor Red and begins reading his files to find a new directive.

He replays the events of his forced fusion with Professor Red in his mind, recovering the memories. He tries to override the current directive but it is unsuccessful, due to the deactivation codes being deleted beforehand. Assistant continues the reluctant task to annihilate all life.

The Crossroads[]

Assistant is able to sense Twisted's essence and where it's located, thus cancelling out the orders to annihilate all life. He arrives at the Rainbow Hub and breaks down its defenses and attacks Sabre after his fight with Twisted Hypno. Twisted orders Assistant to stop Sabre, which he interprets as killing him. He fires up a laser that uses up 90% of his power output and prepares to deal the killing blow. Twisted tries to stop him, but Assistant doesn't hear the order and fires.

Sabre deflects the beam with ease. Having seen into Twisted's mind, Sabre is aware of the Assistant and Professor Red's past. He takes pity on him, suggesting he leave. Twisted uses the last of his strength to activate Assistant's final command, as Sabre flings him and Hypno Steve out of the Rainbow Hub. Assistant Steve goes through with the command, but is pummeled by Sabre to near-death, despite M's attempts to get in the way. Assistant Steve is spared from further damage when he and Sabre sense The Great One arrive. As Sabre and The Great One fight, Assistant Steve activates the self-destruction protocol, seeing his low odds of survival. M is able to stop this by activating Professor Red's protocols of giving the Assistant sentience. Shadow Sabre, who had also arrived, urges M to take the Assistant and run. Assistant Steve and M run away from the battlefield and sit by a tree, as Shadow fails to stop Sabre from gaining full power, absorbing the entire universe and killing everyone.
