Atem is the overarching antagonist of the analog horror web series Needlem0use, serving as the overarching antagonist of Season 1 and the main antagonist of Season 2.
It is a demonic entity that resembles a red, skeletal version of Sonic the Hedgehog created from the raw anger and hatred of Sarah Henderson. Due to motivating Sarah to carry out her revenge against her ex-friends and manipulating her into doing so through means of murder, it is directly responsible for most of her actions. It is the arch-nemesis of its positive counterpart, Del.
He is voiced by ShutUpJoJo.
Appearance[]
Atem is primarily shrouded in darkness, appearing rarely as a silhouetted Sonic surrounded by red outlines. Atem's true form is that of a bright red Sonic figure, with its lower half completely missing and replaced by an exposed ribcage and long, skeletal arms. Its eyes are completely black and unconjoined, and its mouth is disturbingly human and realistic.

- Before being confirmed by the ZeroRhythm_, the series' director, it was previously speculated that imagery of a red entity from the Season 1 finale trailer may have been Atem.
- The series' creator, ShutUpJoseph, has confirmed that Atem isn't a demon.
- This has led to speculation that Atem is some kind of manifestation of Sarah's intense anger and hatred becoming sentient, which explains why it appears in a Sonic-like form to Sarah whenever she is in her human form within the game and also why it encourages her to continue killing. This would be confirmed after the release of the finale by the series' director, ZeroRhythm_.
- Atem's name was revealed in the description of Yourself as "QXRlbQ==". When put through a Base 64 translator, "QXRlbQ==" translates to "Atem", which is an alternate spelling for the name of a god from Egyptian Mythology known as Atum, who is said to have created the world, meaning that the entity took the god's name in reference to how it has the most control over the digital world inside the "Needlem0use" disc.
