Aurora is a character from the "Disney Princesses but they're Villains" series of songs by musical artist Lydia the Bard. She is a villainous adaptation of the character from the 1959 animated Disney film Sleeping Beauty and its 2014 live-action reimagining Maleficent, serving as the main protagonist of her song.
She was voiced by Lydia the Bard.
Biography[]
This version of Aurora's story begins following the events of the reimagining Maleficent: Aurora was born to King Stephan and Queen Leah, rulers of a large kingdom. However, at the celebration of her birth, Stephan's ex-lover, the dark fairy Maleficent, interrupted the festivities to place a curse on Aurora, decreeing that on her sixteenth birthday, she would prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and fall into a sleep like death, with only "true love's kiss" able to revive her. To keep his daughter safe, Stephan sends Aurora to live under the care of the three good fairies Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather under the name of Briar Rose.
Despite their efforts, Maleficent found Aurora. However, knowing of the curse she had placed on the girl, she decided not to kill her and only observe. As a child, Aurora wandered into the woods and found Maleficent. Though Maleficent was at first dismissive of her, the two began meeting in secret and became friends. Their bond grew close, and Maleficent soon regretted the curse she had placed.
On Aurora's sixteenth birthday, she was brought to her kingdom to meet her father, but in the castle found a magic spinning wheel, pricked her finger, and fell into a sleep-like death. Maleficent, ashamed of what she had done, kissed the princess on the head. This act of platonic love woke Aurora, reviving her. As Maleficent offers for Aurora to come live with her in the mystical land of the Moors, King Stephan arrived and shot Maleficent dead with a crossbow. Aurora, enraged that Stephan killed her friend, ran away to reach the Moors as a new place to live, while swearing revenge on her father and his kingdom.
For the next few months, Aurora lived in the Moors, learning the same magic and curses that her friend Maleficent had once used. Assisted by the creatures of the Moors, she plotted a revenge plan. After some time, she reemerged in the kingdom's town, using her curses to sing a hypnotic lullaby, compelling everyone in the town, regardless of their age or innocence, to prick their fingers on the spindles of spinning wheels and fall into sleep, ensuring there is no way to wake from their eternal slumber.
Personality[]
This version of Aurora is deeply passionate about her friends and allies. When her friend Maleficent is killed, she stops at nothing to enact cold-hearted, ironic vengence against not only her father, but anyone associated with him regardless of their innocence. She is stoic and ruthless, uncaring for whose life she takes.
