For a moment, my brothers and sisters were united. We stood together, one great army that would liberate all planes from the tyranny of the Celestials. But we greatly underestimated the power of Wanakwe and the Celestials. They did not even bother to bring out the other hybrids... Rautha... Death... they must have seen us as insignificant ants. I saw it with my own eyes, the deaths of those who got close to the Pillar and attempted to fight them. I survived, but I was cast out. Many others shared the same fate as me. Many did not survive. Yet here I am. Broken, decrepit, and crumbling... but I am whole.
~ Azazel's story to Enoch

Azazel (also known by his disguise Alexander Frost) is the secondary antagonist of the Dream Zone sequel series The Dream Zone: Legends of Demor.

He serves as a major antagonist in the Revival, Canus, and Anya arcs, the main antagonist of the Archangel arc, and a secondary antagonist for the remaining arcs.

He is a Fallen Angel and the right hand of the Violet Queen Leviathan, who once helped her start a failed rebellion against Wanakwe and the Celestial Beings to obtain the power of the Pillar of Light. Under her orders, he masqueraded as SevaCo. Vice President Alexander Frost, working under James Sevaca to create another mass energy point so Leviathan can create a new portal to the Pillar of Light's domain. He also sought to capture Enoch to bring to his Queen.

He is the archnemesis of Enoch and the lover of Baal.

Personality[]

Azazel is an extremely loyal, cold, and emotionless individual. His loyalty earned him the title of Leviathan's Right Hand, carrying out her orders with unrelenting resolve and zero questions asked. This trait was present even in the beginning, always loyal to Leviathan during her planning of the rebellion. One of the most prominent examples of his loyalty is disciplining Dagon and Moloch for berating Caim, going against the Violet Queen's belief in the value of all her angels.

After his casting out from the Dreamscape, Azazel lost all sense of emotion. He always wears a frequent stoic expression on his face, never wavering. The only emotions he has expressed outright are anger and mourning, and both were centered around the loss of his lover. Even as Alexander Frost, James Sevaca quipped about how Frost was always "so serious" and needed to "live a little." When he speaks, its usually monotone and deep, devoid of any emotion other than coldness.

Despite that, he cares deeply for his fellow angels, and above all, his boyfriend Baal. The two have an inseparable bond, and while Azazel may not express it, he grows concerned for Baal's deteriorating state. When Baal is killed by Enoch, he glosses over Anabelle and Kazu to torture and eventually kill Enoch for revenge.

Appearance[]

As Alexander Frost, he takes on the appearance of an average-built Caucasian man with blonde hair. He sports a beige coat with gold outlines, a beige vest, beige pants, a black undershirt, a white tie and black shoes. He has no other notable accessories.

In his true angel form, he takes the appearance of a muscular goat-man. His feel are digitigrade hooves, and he retains his blonde hair. He also has curved black horns on his head and wings on his back. His eyes are black with white pupils and his body has multiple cracks all over. He only wears metallic gauntlets and a tattered loincloth.

Powers and Abilities[]

Angel Biology: As with the other Fallen Angels, Azazel sports impressive speed and strength. He nearly blitzed Anabelle in the blink of an eye, managing to badly graze Enoch who stood in his way at the last second. His strength allows him to crush a human skull at ease and level large structures, which gives him the title of the strongest angel. Angels also share the ability of invulnerability, making them impervious to most attacks. However, Azazel's weak point (as well as all angels) is his wings. Should they be ripped off, he becomes vulnerable to mortal weapons, rendering himself helpless and able to be killed.

Ice Magic Proficiency: Unlike the other Fallen Angels, Azazel has mastery of a mortal magic branch, that being the Ice Magic branch. However, he is incredibly powerful with this skill, able to create weapons, spikes, and structures incredibly fast. He can even cause a bit of ice magic to "branch" into the internal muscles of his enemy, incapacitating them and slowly rendering them helpless. At the flick of a hand, he can create a massive spiked wall without much effort. Because of his ice magic skill and angel composition, he can also commandeer the Tsuara form. Unlike the others, he can actually take control of the form and use it to attack other opponents, but this only works if an individual is in the battle taking on the Tsuara form.

Lamb of the Deity: If Azazel ever reaches a point of absolute anger, he can activate a beastly form he has full conscious control over. The beast allows Azazel to tap into greater strength and much more powerful Ice Magic. However, he cannot commandeer the Tsuara form nor does he shed any of his prior weaknesses. This form is notably much larger than base Azazel and much stronger as well. It is the strongest Angel power, only being rivaled by Dagon's Loathing Reminiscence.

Quotes[]

You will not die here. My Queen still has use for you.
~ "Alexander" saving a dying Adrian Cay.
I only exist to serve the Queen. Nothing else, nothing more.
~ Azazel to Enoch.
I have seen all the horrors humans have inflicted on each other. I survived Korthan's rampage on the mortal plane. None of it affected me. But you.... you took away my light. And that, more than anything, is unforgivable.
~ Azazel torturing Enoch over Baal's death.

Trivia[]

  • "Azazel" is attributed to be the corrupting influence that began humanity's descent to sin, as noted in the Book of Enoch. Fitting, as Alexander's prime actions encourage James to start a war that takes the life of hundreds of thousands.
  • Azazel only cries twice in the entirety of the series; the first is over the realization of Baal's death, and the last is his own death, crying as he fades away knowing he'll be reunited with his lover.
  • Azazel's goat appearance is also inspired by the demon's depiction in religious media.
  • His immense strength and title of the strongest angel is also a reference to Azazel being a scapegoat, who carries the sins of others and thus a one-man army.
