	~ Engineer to Scout about their depressing lives

Engineer, real name Dell Conagher, is the deuteragonist of the 2020 SFM Keep Going, Buddy by Porky. He is an accomplished engineer and mercenary for BLU who became disillusioned with the constant, seemingly pointless warfare between RED and BLU, becoming depressed in the repetition and turning against his team to find something to make his life worth living, finding a kindred spirit in RED Scout.

Biography[]

During the Gravel Wars, Engineer fought for BLU team using his vast intellect and mechanical skills to construct war machines such as sentries, dispensers, and teleporters in the unending battles over 2fort. However, this unending cycle of warfare and slaughter led to Engineer losing any sense of joy or purpose in his life, seeking an escape.

During a battle between RED and BLU, where the similarly-conflicted RED Scout wasn't bothering with fighting anymore, BLU Engineer left his sentry up in the BLU courtyard, where it obliterated RED Heavy.

The next day, Engineer sat alone in the sewers under BLU, lost in depression and boredom. RED Scout, going through a similar journey, entered the sewers as well and came across Engineer. The pair stared at each other for a moment before the round began, and Engineer, assuming Scout was going to kill him due to their opposite sides, simply hung his head and resigned himself to it with a rueful chuckle. However, Scout didn't attack, and instead sat next to Engineer, much to the older man's surprise. Recognizing that Scout was feeling the same way as him, Engineer remained seated next to Scout in shared depression.

Soon, BLU Soldier and Heavy came charging down the sewers, and Engineer quickly pulled out an invisi-watch he had swiped from BLU Spy, using it to cloak himself and Scout to keep Scout safe. Once the danger had passed, Engineer uncloaked and showed Scout the watch with a smile, bringing a smile to the depressed Scout as well. However, before the two could further befriend each other, the round ended in BLU victory, making Scout upset again. Engineer tried to console him, and reminded him that the cycle would just keep going. In response, Scout merely smiled, as he found someone to share it with.

The next day, Engineer returned to BLU, where he was confronted by BLU Soldier over deserting the previous match, much like Scout was going through with RED Soldier across the map. And simultaneously, Scout and Engineer finally snapped, drawing their weapons and executing their teammates on the spot. Engineer then retrieved a sandvich and went to the sewer hangout spot to share it with Scout, not noticing that BLU Spy survived the massacre by cloaking. Likewise, RED Spy had also survived, and both Spies teamed up to get to the bottom of the situation.

Meeting Scout in the sewers as usual, Engineer shared the sandvich with him. Meanwhile, their teams respawned and were filled in on the situation by the Spies, forming a truce between RED and BLU to hunt down Scout and Engineer. Scout and Engineer thus fled the sewers and hid in the RED intel room, where Engineer used the invisi-watch to escape RED Pyro. The two then ran back to the sewers, but Engineer dropped the invisi-watch without noticing. The pair evaded their teammates for sometime more before finally reaching the BLU intel room, where they stopped to recover, the Administrator denouncing their betrayal over the intercom.

As the pair caught their breath, Engineer expressed his relief to Scout, only for the Spies to uncloak in the corner of the room, revealing that they had the invisi-watch, much to Scout and Engineer's shock. The rest of RED and BLU then ran in, surrounding the pair.

Resigned to what seemed like an inevitable execution for their treason, Engineer could only stand stiffly with his teeth gritted, before looking down in resignation as BLU Soldier stared him down. Engineer remained resigned as RED and BLU Heavy stepped forth, bracing for the end. However, RED Heavy then commenced the Katzotsky Kick taunt, dancing a Cossack dance on the spot, much to Scout and Engineer's surprise. The entirety of BLU and RED then reciprocated, both finally understanding the unending drag of their usual warfare, and Scout and Engineer shared a knowing smile before joining in on the fun.

Together, the two teams danced out of the intel room, across the map, and down the bridge into the night, Engineer and Scout finally finding a shared joy with their friends and former foes alike, bringing a reason to keep living back to their lives.
