I can hear math that's bad, y'know?
~ Baldi when Pac-Man and Blinky get a math problem wrong.

Baldi is a major antagonist from the YouTube videos made by Level UP. He is a parodied version of the original Baldi from Baldi's Basics.

Like his original incarnation, Baldi is a math teach who hunts down various video game characters who get a math problem wrong, and attempts to punish and kill them with his ruler.

He is voiced by Micah "Mystman12" McGonigal using several voice clips, and by Dungeonation in the videos, Baldi and Friends vs Kirby and Baldi would be OP in Pacman.

Appearance[]

Baldi is a pixelated version of himself. He is a lanky figure with a single strand of hair and red lips, while wearing an attire of a lime green shirt, blue pants, and brown shoes. He also wields a ruler when angry. (sans Baldi would be OP in Pacman, where he wielded the ruler while passive)

Personality[]

Being like his original incarnation, Baldi is an affable and nice teacher, aiming on wanting to teach others math. However, the moment a character incorrectly guesses a problem, he becomes aggravated and tends to chase anyone in his sight and kill them regards if they weren't affiliated with the person who answered the question.

However, if a character manages to answer all the math problems correctly or finds another way to impress Baldi, then he will become friendly again, and offer a reward to the character in question.

Despite his wrathfulness, Baldi is kind to the other character of his series, despite presumably using them to his advantage. In Baldi would be OP in Super Mario Bros. PART 2, he helps the others after by reconstructing the bridge after he kills Bowser, and in Baldi would be OP in Pacman, he thanks 1st Prize for collecting a handful of quarter, and apologizes to Playtime after killing both Inky and Pinky.

Outside the "Baldi would be OP in X" series, Baldi's reason for his aggravation are more ridiculous, as he random kills both Mario and Waluigi for no apparent reason.

Biography[]

Baldi would be OP in X series[]

Baldi would be OP in Super Mario Bros.[]

In his debut video, Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and Toad are assigned to find the seven notebooks in World 1-1 to win. When Mario finds one and gets a math problem wrong, this initiates Baldi to hunt down the group, and exits out of a nearby warp pipe.

Baldi kills Luigi, much to the other three's horror, before Toad figures out on how to beat Baldi. Later on, Baldi catches up and kills Yoshi in detention, Toad when he gets distracted by Playtime, and Mario when he tests out the BSODA.

Now with all the heroes dead, Baldi slides down the flagpole and jumpscares the viewer.

Baldi would be OP in Donkey Kong[]

In the video, Donkey Kong has stolen Baldi's notebooks beforehand, scaling to the top of 25m, before curiously using one of the notebooks. He gets all of the problems wrong, which causes Baldi to pursue after him at the construction site.

Baldi uses the other characters, including Gotta Sweep and First Prize to clear out the wave of barrels, and the Principal of Things to temporarily send Donkey Kong to detention. He eventually reaches the top when Donkey Kong gets back, recovering all of his remaining notebooks. Upon Donkey Kong confronting him, Baldi kills him in retaliation for stealing his possessions and getting the math problems wrong.

Baldi would be OP in Sonic The Hedgehog[]

In the Marble Zone of Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic finds a monitor containing a notebook. He breaks it open and gets the first two questions correct, but the third incorrect. Right then and there, Baldi is seen in the background, preparing to pursue after Sonic, alongside Tails, Amy, and Knuckles. When the four notice Baldi's presence, he kills a nearby Batbrain, causing Sonic, Tails, and Amy to run away while Knuckles attempts to fight him. Baldi then kills Knuckles next without resistance.

While Sonic and Tails move along, Amy gets distracted activating a nearby Lamppost/Star Post, before Baldi drops in. He then deactivates a giant cylinder crusher, eliminating any chance of Amy escaping, before the Principal of Things appears and sends Amy to detention upon her attempting to back up. (unintentionally saving her from Baldi) When Baldi continues chasing the trio, Sonic uses a Swinging Door Lock on a weighted spike, preventing Baldi from catching them.

Upon Sonic, Tails, and Amy being ambushed by Dr. Eggman when reaching a goal sign trap, Baldi appears through a door and kills Eggman. Baldi then prepares to kill the trio, before Tails notices another nearby notebook, leaving him to solve all the math problems correctly, including the impossible question. This causes Baldi to end his pursuit, and gift the trio a quarter each, much to their delight.

Baldi would be OP in Super Mario Bros. PART 2[]

Being a continuity of the first video, a Goomba gives Bowser a notebook which they believe they can use again Mario. (unaware that he was killed previously) Upon being faced with the impossible question, Bowser, bewildered by this, complains on how anyone can solve it, leaving him to toss the You Can Think Pad in the lava pit below.

This causes Baldi to sense him, and enters the castle with the other characters. Meanwhile, Bowser orders his Goombas to defeat Baldi and friends. After getting through the castle and dealing with the Goombas, Baldi and friends make it to Bowser. Baldi enters a door located on the arena's platform, allowing him to ambush Bowser when he axes the bridge against the others. Baldi then gets a quarter from him, and uses it to purchase an axe, reconstructing the bridge and allowing the others to cross. The video then ends with Baldi jumpscaring the viewer again.

Baldi and Friends vs Kirby[]

Baldi appears when he exits through a door and lands on top of Kirby. He then gives the pink puffball a You Can Think Pad for a math quiz. Kirby attempts to answer the math problem by drawing a picture, which causes him to fail on all three questions, and for Baldi to then become aggravated and chase him.

Later in the Prism Plains when Kirby defeats King Dedede by copying Gotta Sweep's ability, Baldi passively approaches him and offers him a job at the schoolhouse as the janitor. Kirby accepts and shakes hands with Baldi.

Baldi would be OP in Pacman[]

In the Pac-Man Maze, Baldi is assigned to collect all the quarters there to win. By using several other characters, Baldi is able to fend off the ghosts while additionally using them to collect the majority of the quarter. He eventually uses a Swinging Door Lock to imprison the ghosts and collects the last quarter.

In the ending scene, both Pac-Man and Blinky notice some You Can Think Pads, and get the last question incorrect, leaving Baldi to pursuit after the two.

Other Appearances[]

Mario tries to win by doing absolutely nothing in Super Mario Bros.[]

During the video, Baldi can be seen peeking, when Mario gets knocked off by Wario. Later, when Mario stands in Bowser's castle, Baldi ambushes him.

Super Waluigi Bloopers[]

Upon Waluigi getting a ruler, Baldi appears from a ? Block and collides with Waluigi, transforming him into a Baldi clone. He then happily says "Fantastic!" and leaves. At the end of the video, when Waluigi scares off both Bowser and Peach in his Walette form, Baldi grabs him and kills Waluigi. Baldi then jumpscares the viewer a third time.

Trivia[]

  • Baldi was also going to appear in the video, Baldi would be OP in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, however, due to the decline in the game, and an increase in Mario-related videos, the concept for the video was shelfed indefinitely/scrapped.
  • Tails and Kirby are the only characters who managed to stop Baldi in pursuit. The former answered the impossible question correctly, while the latter impressed Baldi to the point that he hired him as the new school janitor.
  • Baldi is referenced in the video, Which Mario is different? Pipes Minigame, where the different Mario with a bald head on the final round chases the other Marios with a ruler.
