Captain Basilisx, or simply known as Basilisx is a supporting antagonist in the 2006 flash animation series, Super Mario Bros. Z.
He is the ruthless leader of Bowser's Koopa Guard that is enhanced by Dr. Eggman's experiments who has a vendetta on Mario for supposedly killing one of his friends a while back, as well as multiple other members of the Koopa Troop.
His voice clips were primarily taken from Cell from the Dragon Ball franchise.
Personality[]
Basilisx is a rather arrogant individual, willing to do anything to achieve his goals. He seems to have very little care for the members of his own guard, as he killed one of his own men when he let out his anger and petrified another. He, by all means, wants Mario dead, and is completely willing to fight Mario himself alone. When he defeats Mario, he displaces signs of sadism, as he states that he would enjoy licking the blood off of Mario's lifeless body after he brutally kills him. He also used Luigi as a shield to prevent Mario from attacking him, showing that he has some level of cowardliness, though not much.
Despite all of this, it's made clear that he wants to avenge his friend that Mario supposedly killed, alongside other fallen members of the Koopa Troop, so he isn't completely devoid of redeeming traits. The death of his friend is surely why Basilisx is the way he is now.
Biography[]
Past[]
Not too much is known about Basilisx's past, but it is known that at some point, he joined Bowser's Koopa Troop alongside an unnamed koopa who was his friend. At some point, Mario killed his friend during his journey to Yoshi's Island, right inside of Bowser's castle.
The incident made Basilisx hate Mario even more, and he would promise himself that he would avenge the deaths of his friend and other members of the Koopa Troop. When Eggman joined Bowser, he would upgrade Basilisx into becoming a super soldier of sorts.
Original Series[]
Upon Bowser kidnapping Princess Peach once again, Basilisx was stationed on Bowser's Omega Doomship. When Team Mario came to save her, Basilisx opened fire on their plane. They dodged his attacks and when Mario and his team entered the ship, he went down to the deck to defend the ship, and finally have his vengeance.
Basilisx first attacks Mario after he defeats most of the ship's guards with Sonic, Luigi, and Yoshi, and he orders the remaining guards to stand down, as he would handle Mario and the others himself. He then turns Sonic, Luigi, and Yoshi to stone, and promises that once he will avenge his friend and the many other fallen members of the Koopa Troop by killing Mario.
He soon engages in a battle with Mario. At first, the battle goes mostly well for Mario, but Basilisx would then soon take advantage over the fighting, slicing through Mario's hammers and dodging his attacks. He would then begin to beat Mario with the petrified body of Luigi, only to then poison him. Basilisx finally had beaten Mario.
Basilisx would soon gloat over his victory and promise that he would finally kill Mario in a sadistic manner, but before he could finally deliver the final blow on Mario, Luigi, freed from Basilisx's petrification via the Tanooki suit, would knock him down, and heal Mario. Basilisx would soon order the rest of his guard to attack the Mario Bros. What happened afterward is unknown, but it could be presumed that Basilisx was defeated during this final battle with Mario.

Trivia[]
- Basilisx noticeably speaks with long s', most likely because of the snake-like influence the character has, with his name even being a reference to the mythological beast known as Basilisk.
- Originally, Basilisx was not set to return in the reboot series, as Mark Haynes believed that he felt shoe-horned into the original story. However, since then, it has been confirmed that Basilisx will return in the reboot eventually, though it will be sometime after the Metallix Saga.
- Basilisx was originally created by a fan of the Super Mario Bros. Z series.
- His battle theme, Show No Tears, was made by NemesisTheory on Newgrounds. However, due to the style of the music, it's commonly mistaken to be a Devil May Cry song.
- Technically, he serves as the final antagonist of the original series as he was the last antagonist to be fought and the last to show up, though he was not intended to be.
- Unlike most of the antagonists in the series, Basilisx is an original character who did not originate from either the Mario and Sonic video games.
- Mark Haynes stated that in the reboot series, he will be retconning Basilisx from the Metallix Saga, but expect him to return in the Smithy Saga.
