Prince Adam, better known as the Beast, is a character from the "Disney Princesses but they're Villains" series of songs by British musical artist Lydia the Bard.
He was once human until being cursed by the Enchantress and turning into a beast. He sought to win the love of Belle to break the curse, but Belle was secretly plotting and betrayed him, resulting in his becoming a feral monster. He is an adaptation of the character from the 1991 animated Disney film Beauty and the Beast. He is the secondary antagonist in Belle's arc of the series.
Biography[]
Prince Adam lived in a luxurious castle in France. He was very spoiled, selfish, and unkind. One day, a beggar woman came to the castle and asked for shelter, offering him a rose. The Prince cruelly ordered her away, and the woman revealed herself to be a beautiful enchantress. She cursed him and his servants, transforming him into a hideous beast and them into sentient household objects. The spell would only break if he learned to love someone and earned her love in return. However, as he was hideous, he believed this could not happen.
One day, a man named Maurice happened upon the castle and the Beast captured him. Maurice's daughter, Belle, rode to find him, and found the castle full of enchanted sentient housewares and lorded over by the brutish Beast. Enraged that once again someone challenged her and her family, she hatches a plan for revenge against the Beast as well as the town. Belle offers up herself in her father's place, to which the Beast accepts. Unknown to him, Belle was actually the Enchantress's daughter.
Kept at the castle, Belle plots revenge and how to use the situation to her advantage. She learns what happened to the Beast and how to break the spell, and is disgusted by the idea that yet another man has underestimated her and thinks of themselves worthy of her hand. She plays the role of prisoner, pretending to get along with the otherwise friendly servants and even tending to the Beast's wounds after a wolf attack just to fool them all into trusting her. However, she is secretly plotting, and finds a magic rose. The rose is slowly wilting, and when the last petal falls, the spell will be irreversible. Belle also learns that once the Beast transforms completely, he will become feral and monstrous. Belle uses this knowledge to her advantage.
Finally, one night, Belle offers to dance with the Beast. The Beast, who has softened and truly thinks he and Belle are falling in love, accepts, not knowing Belle has stolen the rose. As they dance, Belle suddenly produces the rose and begins plucking petals. The horrified Beast collapses as his transformation grows stronger, and Belle takes the opportunity to mock the Beast, chastising him for ever thinking she could love someone as low and monstrous as himself, before she finally steps on the rose and destroys it.
All the servants watch in horror as they are all transformed into inanimate housewares, including the children and the ones that treated Belle with kindness. The Beast loses himself to grief and his transformation, turning into a feral, violent monster. It is then that Belle sees Gaston leading a mob of villagers to the castle. She is appalled again that they underestimated her so much, and that this was just another ploy to win her hand. Consumed by hate and sadism, Belle sics the Beast on the terrified Gaston. He manages to fight the Beast off, but loses an eye in the process as the mob is forced to retreat, including Belle's horrified father, who is filled with despair at what his daughter has become.
Belle continues to plot and scheme from the castle, with the Beast as her guard. The mob continues to return, with a reward offered to whoever can kill Belle, now regarded as a full witch. One night, the Beast is successfully subdued and captured. However, Belle embraces dark magic, becoming a witch, and uses her newfound power to destroy the mob, including her own father, and it is possible she may free the Beast.
Personality[]
As Prince Adam, the Beast was unkind and selfish, but being cursed as a Beast made him isolated. He did not mean to mistreat Belle, but she was so egotistical that she believed he thought he was worthy of her hand and only wanted to marry him.
After she sadistically destroys the rose, he becomes a feral monster unwaveringly loyal to her. As he is now mindless, he only destroys and kills, while Belle watches with glee.
