Did they all really think I was going to help them? They lock someone away, lock my father away, and expect to not face any consequences? Their fate was sealed as soon as they locked me away. You truly think I'll forgive that? I have been mistreated by men who wish to marry me my whole life! My family has been mistreated for far too long. I am better, smarter, more intelligent than all of them combined and it's about time I embrace that. I’ll ensure we’re never underestimated again.
~ Belle
♫I have not spent my life reading books, hours studying, to be some desperate prince's lonely wife! Want to lock me away? Well, by all means, have your fun with that, but I will be the author of my life! So to hell with your flower! You're all idiots for thinking that you'd really make it out of this alive!♫
~ Belle

Belle is a character from the "Disney Princesses but they're Villains" series of songs by British musical artist Lydia the Bard. She is a villainous adaptation of the character from the 1991 animated Disney film Beauty and the Beast, serving as the main protagonist of her song and animatic.

She was voiced by Lydia the Bard.

Biography[]

Belle moved to a small town in France with her father, an inventor. She was a bookworm and loved to read and learn about things. Because of this, she felt a great sense of pride in being the most intelligent and educated person in the whole province. Though she did not look down on others for not being as smart as her, she often felt herself being of a higher caliber than them.

One day, Belle was proposed to by the village hunter, Gaston Legume. Though he was brash, arrogant, and pushy, Belle was particularly offended by him believing he was worthy of someone like her. Shortly after, she found out that her father had been imprisoned at a nearby castle. She rode to find him, and found the castle full of enchanted sentient housewares and lorded over by a brutish beast.

It is only upon finding her father trapped in the castle's dungeon that she grows bitter and angry. The town had always pushed her and her father around for being different, even though she believed she was leagues above the common rabble. Now that this Beast had dared to challenge her family by locking up her father, she grew cold and vowed that no one would ever cross her or her family again. Belle offers up herself in her father's place, to which the Beast accepts.

Kept at the castle, Belle plots revenge and how to use the situation to her advantage. She learns that the Beast and his servants were originally human and were cursed, and that if the Beast can learn to love and be loved in return, the spell will be broken, and if not, he and his servants will be transformed completely. Belle is disgusted by the idea that yet another man has underestimated her and thinks of themselves worthy of her hand.

She plays the role of prisoner, pretending to get along with the otherwise friendly servants and even tending to the Beast's wounds after a wolf attack just to fool them all into trusting her. However, she is secretly plotting, and finds a magic rose. The rose is slowly wilting, and when the last petal falls, the spell will be irreversible. Belle also learns that once the Beast transforms completely, he will become feral and monstrous. Belle uses this knowledge to her advantage.

Finally, one night, Belle offers to dance with the Beast. The Beast, who has softened and truly thinks he and Belle are falling in love, accepts, not knowing Belle has stolen the rose. As they dance, Belle suddenly produces the rose and begins plucking petals. The horrified Beast collapses as his transformation grows stronger, and Belle takes the opportunity to mock the Beast, chastising him for ever thinking she could love someone as low and monstrous as himself, before she finally steps on the rose and destroys it.

All the servants watch in horror as they are all transformed into inanimate housewares, including the children and the ones that treated Belle with kindness. The Beast loses himself to grief and his transformation, turning into a feral, violent monster. It is then that Belle sees Gaston leading a mob of villagers to the castle. She is appalled again that they underestimated her so much, and that this was just another ploy to win her hand.

Consumed by hate and sadism, Belle sics the Beast on the terrified mob, grinning evilly as they were killed.

Personality[]

Belle is egotistical, cruel, deceitful, and selfish, and looks down on others for underestimating her and valuing her only by her looks and not her intelligence. Because of this, she finds no one other than her father worthy to be in her life, and is appalled and disgusted when someone thinks they are comparable or a match for her, especially in wits.

She is a convincing actress and manipulator, able to fool groups of people and play with their emotions, while keeping her true nature secret.
