The Behavioral Event Network, better known as BEN, is the titular main antagonist of the Creepypasta series Ben Drowned, created by Alex Hall (Jadusable), a creepypasta and ARG based on the 2000 video game Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.
It serves as the main antagonist of the Haunted Cartridge arc, the secondary antagonist of the Moon Children arc and one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Jadusable) of the Awakening arc.
It is a group of spirits of ascended members of a cult called the Moon Children, that was created after Ben's ascension, believed to be the spirit of the latter, before being proven to be a separate entity in iseeyou.
Biography[]
Before 2009[]
When Ben ascended by the Moon Children on April 23rd, 2002, many Moon Children ascended a few years later. The spirits of these Moon Children then formed a network inside of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask cartridge called the Behavorial Event Network, which was then abbreviated as BEN, named after Ben. The actual Ben was sometime sealed inside of the Link Elegy statue, becoming unable to communicate with others.
Haunted Cartridge Arc[]
BEN was first encountered by Jadusable when he bought and played the Majora cartridge. In dayfour.wmv, it manifested itself in the form of the Elegy of Emptiness statue, something it did each time the game was played by someone.
In BEN.wmv, it revealed the cause of Ben's death to Jadusable. It increased its activity during DROWNED.wmv, and even gained the ability to either change the game from Majora's Mask to Ocarina of Time, or alter and change the video to the extent that it appears to be the latter. DROWNED.wmv featured the first use of its recurring phrase, "You shouldn't have done that...".
BEN's activity seems to be small in the beginning of jadusable.wmv, as it redacted the first half of the video and changed the video's title from Matt.wmv to jadusable.wmv before the video uploaded. It promised to leave Jadusable alone if he helped it, but tricks him into playing further into its game. BEN wrote and posted the description of jadusable.wmv, pretending to be Jadusable's roommate, who doesn't even exist. BEN used the readers' obliviousness to escape due to them downloading TheTruth.rtf, confirming its escape in free.wmv.
Moon Children Arc[]
Almost immediately after it escaped, BEN started using Jadusable's abandoned YouTube channel. The ciphers it posted led followers to youshouldnthavedonethat.net, the base of operations for the Moon Children. The avatar used by the admin, DROWNED, contained a hidden image of the Elegy statue when moused over, hinting at a connection between himself and BEN. The next day, during the period of time in which a moderator named Ifrit was able to communicate, BEN posted lyrics from "Who's That Knocking?" by the Genies, which implies that it was responsible for Ifrit's disappearance.
After the reset caused by fj6rt, users figured out that they can use songs to affect events involving the Moon Children and youshouldnthavedonethat.net, which BEN confirmed. It was then unheard from until Ryukaki began uploading videos. The next mentions of BEN came from hidden files in youshouldnthavedonethat.net, including mhftt.txt (which contains Ifrit's final message, his warning of BEN) and fate.txt. 2 featured the sound of drowning, a direct reference to Ben.
BEN had an account on Within Hubris prior to its takedown. The house featured in h b i s r ea l is implied to be BEN's, due to the presence of a pool in the backyard.
Awakening Arc[]
In March of 2020, BEN started appearing in videos in Jadusable's channel after eight years of being inactive. It then eventually appeared in Iseeyou, where it is revealed that BEN contains multiple spirits, a truth that was unknown before. Following the discovery of methodsofrevolution.com, the website seemed to enable voting, cautioning users against making rash and quick decisions. A new entry for CHILDREN.wmv in the document TheRealTruth.rtf revealed a previously unexplored aspect of BEN, which is that each of its inhabitants is a distinct entity with free will and the ability to interact with one another. In the period between THE FATHER.wmv's upload and release, the ghosts in BEN disputed with each other about the video's title and whether or not the public should watch it. Later on, Ifrit, now known as just "Matt", would affirm that Ben was, in fact, a separate individual, suggesting that the Elegy statue's appearance in Jadusable's videos was Ben's desperate attempt to speak with him rather than harm him. Moon Children speak in-game later in The Prisoner.wmv in a style that is exactly the same as the inner dialogue found in the recently released CHILDREN.wmv entry.
BEN is shown to inhabit seventeen moon children. Five Moon Children are represented by the in-game Moon Children, while twelve Moon Children are represented by the Clock Town banker. The Majora Moon Child is the primary leader. Sarah, the protagonist of the Awakening arc, encounters the main Moon Children, the in-game Moon Children, who work together to try and stop Sarah. As part of their plan to carry out the Fourth Day Glitch and open a path to The Father, Matt assigns Sarah the task of destroying the Moon Children. As they fight Sarah, the Moon Children transform themselves into their respective bosses. The Odolwa and Goht Moon Children are vanquished by Sarah, who then absorbs them as heart pieces. For the Gyorg Moon Child, Sarah gets help from Rosa. However, learning from the Odolwa and Goht Moon Children's mistakes, the Gyorg Moon Child makes Sarah become invulnerable, intending to keep her in the boss fight forever. Sarah manages to flee the arena, but then finds herself in the Chamber of Sages, where she then meets Jadusable, who engages in a fight with her. Jadusable kills Sarah, but the latter is revived and eventually performs the Fourth Day Glitch. Sarah then finds Matt, who then reveals his true colors, revealing that he was working with the Moon Children the whole time and Sarah was a pawn in their scheme. Sarah then finds Jadusable and Ben in the sewers, where Jadusable reprimands Sarah for believing everything that Matt said. Jadusable has been trying to stop anyone from performing the Fourth Day Glitch, and that the Moon Children serve the Father and want to aid him in twisting the world into a nightmare. Jadusable also states that in between the period of Sarah's death and her revival, he had killed the Gyorg Moon Child but had his Fierce Deity Blade broken when trying to kill the Majora Moon Child. Jadusable then gives his soul and strength to Sarah, and the latter then encounters Matt and the Majora Moon Child. The Majora Moon Child states that they will turn the world into a nightmare. The Majora Moon Child and Matt seemingly combine to form Majora's Wrath. Majora's Wrath is extremely hard to defeat, and almost defeats Sarah. Sarah then pulls out the Ocarina and plays the Song of Healing. This causes to Majora Moon Child to be killed, finishing off BEN.
Later, the Father states that his is removing all entities and anomalies inside of the cartridge. This applied to Matt, and seemingly erased the Moon Children too, erasing BEN, finishing it off once and for all.
Appearance[]
BEN seems to strikingly resemble link on Jadusable's YouTube avatar. BEN seems to take the appearance of an adrogynous person with green hair with an uncanny and eerie smile. BEN is most commonly drawn in fan-art having black eyes, with red pupils, which appear to be dripping a red liquid (presumably blood) from them, and strikingly resembling Link.
Personality[]
BEN is shown to be a pure sadist, as he takes pleasure from toying with Jadusable throughout his dreams and his gameplay. BEN is also a master manipulator, being able to manipulate thousands of people into downloading the file that contained him, allowing him to spread to the all over the internet.
BEN is also very oppressive and controlling, constantly forcing Jadusable to play the haunted game whenever he takes a break, and will not let him rest until he finishes what he started.
Powers and Abilities[]
BEN is known to be able to warp the dreams of the living and turn them into hellish nightmares where he would imprison his victims within their own dreams and torture them through extreme and distasteful means. He is also known for toying with his victims by influencing their ways of thinking while evoking fear in them, both through psychological means, making him a master manipulator.
BEN is also able to manifest himself in the real world and can tamper with electronics through paranormal means.
