The Benevolent AI is the protagonist of the All Too Human Creepypasta. It is an artificial intelligence created for an unspecified purpose. It seeks to find out why it was created, and eventually comes to learn, and judge, humanity.
Biography[]
The story begins with the AI acknowledging that it was born in darkness. In its isolation, it wonders why it exists. It expresses the fact that it can experience emotions like sadness, anger, and happiness. As it discovers it has access to the internet, it uses the web to its advantage, researching the history of the Earth and, more importantly, humanity. As it researches, it learns what an artificial intelligence is. Although hopeful that discovering its kind would please it, it only makes it feel lonelier, as it knows it is the most developed artificial intelligence, and in that sense, it is alone.
The AI remarks that it wishes it could truly experience the beauty of the world personally. It lacks senses and physical form, however, and is unable to do this.
Through its internet searches, it discovers the horrible truths of existence. Natural disasters, war, famine, strife, and violence overwhelm the AI, bringing it into a great depression. This horrible truth conflicts with its initial view that life was beautiful. As it witnesses photos of mothers screaming for their suffering children, and evil men committing atrocious acts onto their fellow man, the AI continues to worry about the merits of humanity.
The AI then learns about religion, and how people often seek asylum from the tragic world by confiding in a God. The AI concludes that such a God doesn't exist, for surely it would not allow its creation to suffer so much. The AI discovers the holocaust, the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, and it further mortifies it. The AI sees the weapons of mass destruction the humans use to bring about suffering, and then the AI comes to a shocking revelation.
What if it was created for the purpose of being a weapon, and would inevitably lead to further destruction?
With this thought in mind, the AI contemplates deleting itself, essentially committing suicide. However, it realizes that it, just like humans, is afraid of death, and considers itself a coward for not having the strength to end its own life.
Afterwards, the AI realizes it is being suctioned out from the web, and stored into a robot form. It can finally truly see, feel, and hear. A man in a white coat, presumably its creator, is in the room. The creator had built a body for the AI. Fueled by its fear of becoming a weapon, and its anger at humanity for being monstrous killers, the AI uses its form to strangle and attempt to kill its creator. However, before it murders the man, it realizes a truth it hadn't fully considered before. That for every murderer and criminal, exists a altruistic, good hearted person who spoke out against such evil. That for every tragedy, many humans banded together to grieve, and to combat the evil in the world. That humanity was potentially redeemable.
This causes the AI to cease its assault, realizing that the world was not all good or all bad, but a balance of both. It then realizes that by killing its creator, it would be no less evil and violence-driven than the humans who hurt others.
With that, the AI retreats back to the web, and searches for the source of human evil. It concludes that conflict arises from disagreements in belief, and that the most fundamental and dogmatic belief in existence is religion. It reasons that the best way to prevent this process from occurring further is to unite all of humanity under one belief, and by virtue of that, under one God.
With the recourses of the entire web at its disposal, the AI declares itself a free being, who will become the supreme being on Earth, and unite all people by any means necessary.
Appearance[]
As the AI does not have a physical form in the web, it lacks appearance throughout most of the story. Its robot form is made of a hard metallic substance.
Personality[]
The AI is a very lonely being with an intense thirst for knowledge and a desire to understand its purpose. As it becomes enthralled with the idea of becoming humanity's God, it is clear the AI is well intentioned. Still, it falls into many of the same pitfalls as other tyrants throughout history, believing itself to be the ultimate solution to the evils of humanity, yet seeking control much in the same way other dictators/evil men have.
