Benrey (alternatively spelled Benry), is the main antagonist of YouTuber/Twitch Streamer wayneradiotv's HLVRSAI (Half-Life VR: Self-Aware AI) series, AKA Half-Life VR or Half-Life VR but the AI is Self-Aware. He is an AI-gone rogue Eldritch Abomination disguised as a Black Mesa security guard, who is in constant conflict with Gordon Freeman due to Gordon not having his passport on him when he entered work.
Out-of-universe, he is another player, played by one of Wayne's friends, Scorpy (@socpens on Twitter).
Biography[]
Benrey is first seen when Gordon Freeman is going to the test chamber, Benrey stops him and asks to see his passport. Gordon is confused, and asks Benrey if he means Company ID. Benrey ignores the question, and tells another security guard (Jefferem) that Gordon doesn't have his passport. Eventually, he decides to let Gordon go to the test chamber, but on the condition that he has to follow him, supposedly in the case that Jefferem tries to beat Gordon up. During their walk, Gordon tells Benrey he should put on an HEV Suit because "There's gonna be radiation and shit". Benrey clarifies "It's okay, I'm- I'm not human."
Once they arrive to the testing area, Bubby, another scientist working on the test, tells Benrey that he can't be there because he doesn't have a 'Hazard Suit'. Benrey tells Bubby that he has his ID, and Bubby lets him go. Eventually, they arrive to the actual chamber, and Gordon leaves Benrey outside, only to be completely dismayed upon seeing Benrey already within the test chamber despite the only entrance being completely sealed.
Gordon tells Benrey that he should go back to the airlock so that he might survive. Benrey responds "You're not getting rid of me that easy." Gordon begrudgingly/out of necessity continues with the test, while Benrey looks around the test chamber.
Then, the Resonance Cascade happens, and Benrey disappears for a short time, though quickly joins back up with Gordon after Gordon's conversation about Benrey with Bubby.
They enter another room, where they meet back up with Tommy, and Benrey kills a headcrab with a gun which he refers to as his passport. As Gordon is about to ask Tommy a question, Benrey sets a scientist on fire, because "they didn't have their passport."
Personality[]
Initially, Benrey seems to be an eccentric, stubborn, and somewhat unintelligent security guard at Black Mesa, but he quickly shows his other sides, saying early on [sic] "I'm not human." and somehow entering the test chamber when all possible entrances were sealed.
Throughout the series, he reveals himself to a malevolent godlike being. While the other characters (Bubby and Dr. Coomer especially) kill people they meet for very questionable reasons such as owing them money, Benrey seems to do it just to disturb Gordon.
Benrey shows that he is biased when enforcing the rules at Black Mesa, almost always targeting only Gordon when he supposedly breaks the rules while giving other characters a free pass when they do much worse than Gordon. An example of this is when he tells Gordon off for writing Graffiti, but allows Bubby to do the same without consequence. His bias against Gordon only gets worse as the series continues, as he even goes as far as to actively impede Gordon's progress at certain points and having the military lure Gordon into a trap to sever his arm.

- Originally Scorpy wanted to play as if he was a different security guard each time he disappeared, which is why one time in Act 1: Part 2, he claims his name is "Stong" and he doesn't recognize Gordon, but this never went anywhere after that.
