~ The Wolf before it eats Little Red. |
The wolf entity, or the Big Bad Wolf, is the main antagonist of Zodiax99’s short story, Little Red Forest. Based on the classic fairytale Little Red Riding Hood. It’s a cruel and bloodthirsty entity that lurks inside a forest nearby a small village. Every ten years, the wolf must be offered a child sacrifice from the village in order to keep it from spreading havoc elsewhere.
Appearance[]
This entity has the form (or takes the form of) a giant, pitch black wolf with vicious bright red eyes. All combine to give it a menacing aura and appearance.
Personality[]
Although there are a couple of antagonists in the story, the wolf is the only one that’s genuinely evil. The wolf is a bloodthirsty, cunning, manipulative, arrogant, cruel and extremely sadistic entity that feels pleasure when eating its prey. It not only enjoys physically harming its victims, but it also likes to mock them. Shown when it taunts Red about how her mother abandoned and was ungrateful for her. But the wolf is more than a brute, it’s also well-spoken and intelligent. Though it doesn’t use it often since it usually doesn’t need it. The ending implies that the wolf is an incredibly powerful being, that can and will spread mayhem and chaos across the village and the world beyond. It’s an entity that seems to cause pain and misery simply due to it’s own nature.
Biography[]
All that is know about the wolf’s origins, is that the village opposite of its forest must sacrifice one child to protect it and the land beyond. It’s implied that this ritual has gone on for centuries, and at one point the methods for the sacrifice became less brutal.
Forty years later, yet another child must be offered. The chosen child is a seven year old girl called Little Red, who was told by her mother to aid her ill-fallen grandmother. Being tricked into thinking the grandmother’s house lies inside the forest, Little Red happily obliges. Thus she leaves the village and enters the forest.
While at first the forest is very merry and peaceful, the further Little Red ventures, the darker her surroundings get. After getting lost and feeling frightened, Little Red falls to her knees and cries for help. Her pleas are met with a strange, disembodied voice, asking her why she’s crying. Little Red tells the voice that she is lost, needs help and her grandmother’s ill. The voice responds by revealing that it knows that Red’s mother sent her, and proceeds to call her mother ungrateful.
When Little Red tries to defend her mother, the voice interrupts by claiming that her mother intentionally abandoned her. Then it goes on to mock Red for her weakness and foolishness. Thus, the voice finally reveals its true nature, that it wants to eat Little Red and “rid the village of its reward.”
The towering giant wolf appears behind Red, and pins her to ground when she tries to escape. It begins to brutally torture her, causing Little Red to scream in agony before it finally devours her. It’s later said that Little Red’s mother couldn’t bear the guilt and loss, and it’s implied she committed suicide.
Ten years later, a little boy named Jacob is chosen as the next sacrifice, being tricked into finding some berries in the forest for his little brother. Jacob’s mother weeps over the loss, but there’s nothing anyone could do. Nothing the village and its council can do but wait for another ten years to roll by.
Trivia[]
- It’s implied that the wolf is not simply a separate being from its forest, but it is also the forest itself. As shown when it sighed, it triggered a small breeze.
- it’s also implied that the wolf has the power to create illusions, seeing how the forest starts out lovely but slowly becomes darker.
