The Black Sludge Disease is a highly contagious sickness that is a virus that causes mutations in the human body, causing their blood to turn a black sticky substance, their skin to turn a duller shade, and their eye sockets and veins to turn black. Later, the infection results in accelerated mutations in infected humans, which turn into abomination undead mutants that become extremely aggressive and bestial, attacking all uninfected living things to spread the infection. The infection can be spread by contact, through body cavities, blood and saliva, which has caused an outbreak in a hidden little town called Goldsprings.
Origin[]
The origins of the Black Sludge epidemic are mostly obscure, with some speculations and Tenebris scientists theorising that the Black Sludge may have been created at the same time as the Earth BC, or possibly earlier than Satan and God, possibly created by the higher bio-engineers of another dimension. The first official accounts and records indicate that the substance was first discovered in the early 21st century by all 3 opposing background forces, the Tenebris Organization, the Society of Light and the Global Covenant of Occultists.
After WW2, an abandoned secret Nazi base in Antarctica was discovered by the Soviets, where a mining site was discovered. They found a lot of dead Nazi scientists and soldiers, whose corpses were found with strange black matter in their eye sockets, mouths and noses. The Soviets then took over the base and continued their experiments. They managed to dig deep enough until the end of the Cold War when the Soviet Union collapsed. In 1993, the United States discovered an abandoned Soviet mine site where Soviet corpses were found with black liquid on their faces, similar to what had been found on the Nazis.
They continued the secret experiments that the Society of Light had started with the American miners, who had modern enough drilling equipment to dig deep enough. In 2003, they finally found the source of an unknown toxic black substance where anyone going down with the right hazardous suit would immediately drown and die. Using rovers and drones sent from the surface, they were able to investigate that deep underground the carcass of an alien giant life form was visible and was the source of the black sludge material. The Tenebris hypothesise that the black sludge may have come from its blood or saliva, but it is also possible that the lifeform's death was caused by the virus. The creature of unknown origin has been named "Alpha Lifeform". The giant creature has been described by many as the devil himself, possessing those who come into contact with it, meaning they become infected with the disease and die. The Society of Light saw great potential in the substance, as it could be used as a biological weapon and medicine against humanity.
They wanted to reduce the population, but they also believed it could be the key to human evolution and its acceleration and cure, so they quickly moved it to laboratories in China and the US, where they began research with the substance.In 2008, they began genetically modifying the black sludge to make it a non-lethal virus and to make it slower to linger in the human body. They tried to counter this by misleading the population with outbreaks of various viruses or by releasing viruses on humanity from 2009 to the present. They needed to do this because they were influencing organisations such as the UN, the World Economic Forum and the WHO to start producing vaccines that would weaken people's bodies and immunity to make them more easily infected and unable to resist the black sludge disease and the emergence of certain moulds that are also a creation of the Society of Light. In 2025, in a laboratory in a hidden small town called Goldspings, they began their first major project to experiment on humans with the virus, code-named Project La peste noire.
They started an experiment on the local population in which the subject died of the virus after the horrible side effects of infection, and then within minutes the virus regained its vital functions and the pathogen accelerated its evolutionary nature, but lost its intellect and humanity and mutated into a mindless distorted aggressive being that attacks everyone who is not infected. Later, the Society of Light's research goes awry, and in the town of Goldspings, an outbreak breaks out and almost everyone is infected. At the same time, Tenebris takes immediate action, sending the Health and Eugenics Department and the Special Operations Department to immediately stop the outbreak in the small town, and tactical missiles and heavy bombers are launched to destroy the Antarctic mining deposit. However, it proved too late, as by 2030 the Three Days of Darkness had begun, with the lands ripping apart and various rifts and dimensional portals opening, opening portals from the demon world. From beneath the earth and from the portals, demons and other monstrous supernatural beings and the forces of hell began to pour through, during which our entire planet was terraformed to resemble that of the other world. As a result, the Black Sludge Disease that has been growing for years has now become even stronger, and has spread throughout the world especially where there is high demonic activity which is the source of the Hell gateway.
Biology[]
The infection first starts with plague-like and flu-like symptoms, manifested by skin irritation, high fever, muscle cramps, weakness, low blood flow, damaged veins and blisters full of streams. Subsequently, the victim experiences hallucinations and visions and begins to lose consciousness and cognitive function and empathy. The process takes several hours while intense heat is applied to accelerate the process. The subject begins to cough up black fluid and it begins to ooze from his airways and eyes. Subsequently, a few minutes after the victim's death, his vital signs increase threefold and his body begins to rise, and then the first mutations appear on his body, which include skin lesions and pallor, and atrophy of the eyeballs and black fluid oozing from the orifices. At this point the subject becomes very aggressive and starts attacking all uninfected people. At this stage, accelerated evolution is already causing random mutations and degenerations throughout the subject's body, with various flesh growths, bone growths, extra appendages and limbs growing. Be it any organic material it will be immediately attacked which is not contaminated. Their body mass increases and they become much more regenerative and resistant, conventional firearms are almost ineffective against them, and only flame-throwers and corrosive chemical weapons are suitable against them, which break down any organic organism. In the final stage, the infected body is completely covered with a black goo, which solidifies and forms a protective shell on the patients. According to some research, the infected do not lose consciousness completely, but become possessed by the virus, their minds becoming obsessed and enslaved to the forces of hell, forming a kind of collective consciousness.
Black Sludge Types[]
Grunt[]
Grunts are patients who have fallen victim to a black sludge infection that has taken control of their minds and mutated into horrible zombie-like creatures that attack all living things that are not infected. Their bodies and skin are covered with various flesh and bone growths, and they also have other deformities such as new limbs, or appendages, and tendons. Some are thought to retain part of their minds, but become possessed by a superior race of unknown origin or by Satan himself.
Splitted[]
The Spitted resembles a common Grunt infestation, but it has progressed to the next stage of infection and has mutations that have caused its body to split and its head and blade sharp teeth to easily tear its victim apart.
Brute[]
The Brute is a powerful black sludge infestation with much greater strength and mass than other diseases. It is imposing in size and strength and exhibits beast-like behaviour, as well as making a bellowing, howling sound when chasing its prey. They have huge spiny, tentacled limbs and a grotesque appearance. They have two heads with deformed skulls and receding eyes, and their chests have receding, claw-like ribs.
Big Jaw[]
A patient that has a large open mouth and jaws with which it makes large bites on its victim, leaving a fatal wound by biting off limbs or head. It has a long saliva covered in the black sludge substance with which it infects its victims, who are transformed into zombie-like mutants in seconds.
Blind One[]
The Blind One is a variant of the infected that has adapted to the darkness and has no sight. Its head is replaced by a bulbous head formed from black goo, it has no eyes and its body is covered with rhizomatous skin and flesh growths. Their habitat is in dark secluded places such as mines, caves, underground fallout shelters where they have developed black sludge disease.
Crawler[]
The Crawler is a crawling infestation that lurks and swoops down on its prey, hiding, crawling on the ceiling and crawling up walls. It moves very fast and can have 5 or more limbs that end in either a leg and hand or a mutated claw hand.
Praetorian[]
The Praetorians, also known as the Guardians, are the newborn creatures of the black sludge disease, and the guardians of the "nests" made up of the black sludge organism and the remains of the infected. Their entire bodies are covered in a sticky sludge-like substance that protects them from any external attack. Conventional firearms are completely ineffective against them, and only flamethrowers and chemical weapons containing hydrochloric acid can kill them. They are indigenous underground, where they are the source of outbreaks of black slime disease such as caves, mines and other underground installations.
The Mind One[]
Mind One, also known as Giant Lifeform and Alpha Lifeform, is an ancient almost god-like being whose corpse was discovered in Antarctica in the early 21st century. There are 2 theories, that the being itself was a god-like being infected by the black sludge virus, or that the being itself produces this material and is the source of the unknown material. A giant dragon like creature with 2 large horns and its entire body covered in a sludge that is extremely dangerous and contagious to all life forms.
