King Bowser Koopa Sr. is one of the two titular villainous protagonists of the DEATH BATTLE episode, "Bowser VS Ganon" and the main villainous protagonist of "Bowser VS Eggman".

He is the arch nemesis of Mario and seeks to takeover the Mushroom Kingdom and force Peach to be his bride, as well as the father of Bowser Jr. and the boss of his minions such as Kamek and King Boo. In the context of DEATH BATTLE, he is also the nemesis of Ganondorf and Dr. Eggman.

In "Bowser VS Eggman," he was voiced by Zack Watkins.

Personality

Bowser is shown to be a rather pompous, gruff, and cocky individual, as he often makes snide remarks towards Eggman during the war between their two armies. However, in contrast to the latter, who views his underlings as nothing more than pawns, Bowser genuinely cares for the wellbeing of his minions, going out of his way to protect them when Infinite uses his reality warping powers and takes a horrendously fatal shot from the Death Egg's laser in an attempt to save them all, being stripped down to the bone in doing so. By further extension, he loves his son, Bowser Jr., as he was beyond enraged when Metal Sonic wounded him during an attack meant for him.

History

Bowser VS Ganon

Breaking into the Demon King's castle to steal his part of the Triforce, Bowser is quickly confronted by Ganondorf and the two engage in a fight. The two kings fight throughout the castle for a bit before the Demon King drops Bowser into the lava. Unfazed by this, Bowser tries to use his Koppa Clown Kart to destroy Ganondorf only for it to fail. Still undeterred, Bowser makes himself giant with Ganondorf himself transforming into Ganon. Tired of this, the Koppa King decides to eat Ganon and Bowser seems to have won until Ganondorf bursts out of Bowser's body destroying his skin and then his bones killing the Koopa King.

Bowser VS Eggman

One day, a wedding between Bowser and Princess Peach appears to occur. However this is revealed to be a ploy by Doctor Eggman to launch a attack by the Eggman Empire for a Eggmanland 2. Insulted by this, Bowser launches his army to fight off the mad doctor's army. While Bowser gets the upper hand at first, Infinite appears to use the Phantom Ruby on Bowser and his troops. Unfortunately King Boo appears and quickly disposes of the jackal leaving the ruby to be collected by Metal Sonic who attempts to use the Phantom Ruby but is stopped by Kamek and Bowser who destroys the ruby. However Metal transforms into Neo Metal Sonic and lands a crucial blow to Bowser. Horrified by this, Bowser Jr. uses his paintbrush to transform his father into Fury Bowser who fights Metal Sonic and Sage. While they seem to have the upper hand at first, Metal Sonic makes the mistake of attacking Bowser Jr. Enraged by this, Bowser uses the power of a Grand Star and annihilates Metal Sonic and creates a black hole. However, Sage is able to close the black hole and have the Death Egg fire at Bowser's troops. Selflessly jumping into the laser to protect them, the Koopa King is reduced to his Dry Bowser state but is still alive. Depreving Eggman of his Death Egg by transforming it into a ? block, Bowser inhales the doctor towards his before punching him into said block where the doctor and the block explode into numerous coins as Bowser laughs at his victory.

Trivia

• The drop kick Bowser uses against the Heavy-Egg Hammer at the beginning of the fight comes directly from his forward smash in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
• Despite being a feral beast as Fury Bowser in the games, Bowser, strangely, is fully sapient and in control of his own actions in this state during his battle against Eggman.
• Despite some debating whether or not Bowser's victory over Eggman was completely accurate, Bowser VS Eggman is considered to be one of the best episodes of Death Battle yet, as it skyrocketed to the #1 trend mere hours after the episode was released, as well as reaching 3 million views after the next couple of days, due to the amazing animation and voice acting, as well as the fact that it was a full on war between two armies rather than just a 1v1.
  • Many people have also praised the contrast between Bowser and Eggman's differing types of leadership and the loyalty their respective armies give them because of it: Eggman frequently hid behind his robots throughout the fight and views them as nothing more than canon fodder, so when he was willing to fire the Death Egg laser regardless of how catastrophic it would be to both sides, they fled and abandoned him without hesitation. Meanwhile, Bowser fought alongside his minions and actively went out of his way to keep them safe, hence why they returned the favor by refusing to leave him even when faced with imminent death. Their loyalty was paid off as Bowser stepped up to take the shot and by the end, Eggman was left with nothing whereas Bowser still had his army by his side.
  • Ironically, Bowser's first battle, Bowser VS Ganon, has gone down in infamy as one of the least popular episodes in the series partly due to the overall treatment of Bowser.
• The last visible frame of Bowser's face seen before he retreats into his shell as he spins toward the Egg Dragoon is a redraw of his memetic face from the opening cutscene of Hotel Mario.
  • Ironically, this face also appeared in Bowser's analysis.
