Brigid Viresia is the main antagonist of the Rise of Vastatburg homebrew campaign. She's a druid from the kingdom of Durumir and also a descendant of the royal family of the kingdom of Viresia. Believing her life was ruined by the actions of both countries, as well as a third one being Pladya, Brigid goes on a quest to turn them into her own personal eden.

Description[]

Brigid is a young woman with long and puffy red hair usually covered by her cloak. She wears glasses and a traveler attire under her cloak, which is partially burned.

While easygoing and polite, Brigid is also extremely vengeful toward those who have wronged her, willing to destroy her offenders' entire kingdoms even for things that happened almost a century ago. Her insanity stems from her grief for her fiancée's murder at the hands of Durumir due to his involvement in Brigid's plans to awaken Vastatburg, as well as his full support to her goal, reassuring her to go on her path of destruction.

Despite her hate towards three whole kingdoms, Brigid is genuinely kind towards her allies and other strangers who pose no threat to her, and is willing to pay very generously for the assistance of adventurers on her plan.

History[]

Following their defeat against the kingdom of Pladya a century ago, the Viresian king was forced to share his kingdom's technological secrets with the Pladians or risk getting destroyed by Vastatburg, the last war machine developed by the Pladians from the corpse of the red dragon Vastator. Sharing their knowledge with the enemy destroyed the king's public image and, shortly after, he was deposed by his own ministers and exiled to his relatives' domains in the snowy kingdom in Durumir, along with his family.

Decades later, Brigid was the last of the Viresian royal family, who had been living a comfortable life in the Durumian royal palace as guests. Brigid spent her life studying magic and nature to the point of becoming a druid, and later fell in love with a young wizard and Durumian noble named Vernon. Used to Durumir's cold and somber climate, the two lovers dreamnt of living in a green and sunny environment where they could build a happy life together. Soon after becoming engaged, Brigid learned about Vastatburg from old history books and thought about using the weapon to retake Viresia and rule it as its rightful queen with Vernon at her side, and idea to which he agreed. However, their plan also came to the ears of Vernon's cousin, the Iron Queen of Durumir Trytore. The evil queen also took interest in the ancient weapon and decided to get it for herself to win the war against the kingdom of Martys, which she intended to invade.

Brigid went on a journey to find the hidden remains of Vastatburg while Vernon stayed home under the secret watch of Trytore's right hand man, the Durumian Prime Minister. The queen waited until Brigid contacted Vernon to inform him she had found Vastatburg somewhere in the mountains between Durumir and Pladya, but was unable to activate it without a special artifact that had been split between Pladya and Viresia. Vernon decided to join her on her quest to find the pieces of the artifact, but was killed by the Prime Minister before leaving the palace.

After days without any news from him, Brigid saw Vernon appear before her as a fire spirit who had bound himself to her soul due to their love for each other. The image of her beloved reduced to a fiery ghost was enough for Brigid to deduce what had happened. In the end, Pladya had humiliated her ancestors, Viresia had forsaken them and Durumir had robbed her of a normal, married life with Vernon. Overcome by grief and anger, Brigid decided to use Vastatburg to reduce the three kingdoms to ashes and build her dream paradise over their remains with her magic, a goal Vernon would help her accomplish. On their journey together, they also recruited a Martysian paladin named Idris, who had lost his entire squad against the Durumian army in the war. The vengeful paladin shared Brigid's goal of destroying Durumir, so she invited him to join her on her quest as her bodyguard.
