“ | When Frederick Briggs found the cave all those years ago, I laid my curse upon him in hopes that he would be a suitable host so I can finally leave this place. ~ Brine speaking with Entity_303 in the End. |
Brine, also known as the Brine Demon, is the main antagonist of the Origins Universe.
He serves as the overarching antagonist of Herobrine Origins, Origins: Counter Attack, entity_303 and Herobrine Origins Part IV, the main antagonist of Herobrine Origins Part II, Herobrine Origins Part III and Origins Untold, the titular unseen overarching antagonist of BRINE and the unseen overarching antagonist of LICK and Origins: Generations.
It is an ancient demonic spirit hailing from the End dimension where it has remained trapped for many decades and wishes to be free by seeking out a worthy vessel. Brine was first discovered by Frederick Briggs during the Cold War, who was then subsequently cursed by the demon, resulting in every male-born member of future generations of the Briggs family inheriting his powers and becoming susceptible to becoming possessed by Brine.
Brine is also indirectly responsible for the creation of the Brine serum, which was originally a vaccine created by Anna Briggs to revolutionize the medical industry and cure cancer, but would go on to fall into the wrong hands of corrupt individuals who wished to weaponize the serum to artificially enhance peoples' physical capabilities and additionally lead to the creation of other threats through attempting to recreate the serum. He is Steve Briggs' arch-nemesis, his primary and most successful vessel.
He was portrayed by Ghost Channel in his true form and by Paul Giannotta when in the form of Robert Briggs.
Appearance[]

Brine's true form as seen in the original Herobrine Origins II.
Brine's true form is that of a pale, nude humanoid entity with white eyes and covered in blood. In Herobrine Origins Part IV, the demon is shown wearing a ragged black cloak and pants.
Brine is also a shapeshifter and can take the form of anyone he chooses, including that of Steve's late father, Robert Briggs. When actually possessing Robert's body, his eyes become blood red. He can also take the form of a completely black version of himself with the exception of his white eyes. Brine is also capable of taking on the form of a swirling mass of dark particles whenever he flies.
In the original (and currently outdated) Herobrine Origins Part II, Brine's true form was that of the possessed version of the character George Smith from NewScapePro and Machinima's Herobrine trilogy: a man with pale skin, a white shirt, dark blue pants, black shoes, brown hair, white eyes and covered in blood.
Personality[]
“ | You are not my son. You are a mistake. A disappointment. You're weak. You have all these powers and all you do is get revenge on a bully? | „ |
~ Brine as "Robert" belittling Steve. |
At his core, Brine is a completely selfish and arrogant demon concerned with one thing and one thing only: his own well-being. For seemingly as long as he's existed, all Brine has ever wanted to do is leave the End dimension by gaining a physical host on Earth, being completely uncaring regarding how many lives he has to extinguish and ruin to ensure his own freedom. Even if he were to escape, Brine's freedom is only the first step in his plan to spread chaos and despair across the world, and despite his mysterious nature and unexplained origins, he appears to possess no other motive other than pure, unquenchable sadism and a lust for worldwide destruction. As shown when interacting with Entity_303, Brine's default tone towards communicating with others is sophisticated, calm and smooth-talking, which helps to mask his true power-hungry, murderous personality.
Brine's primary trait is his arrogance, bordering on outright egotism due to his inflated sense of himself. Owing to his selfish nature and self-serving goals, Brine looks down upon just about everyone he comes into contact with and speaks in a condescending, callous and patronising manner, especially towards Steve Briggs, his strongest vessel. Throughout their interactions, in the form of his father, Brine constantly ridicules, mocks and antagonises Steve, deeming him to be weak and pathetic. His interactions with Steve also show Brine to possess a Darwinian view on life where the strong prevail and trample the weak.
Brine also appears to possess a morbid, spiteful fascination with Steve, returning to New York City as Steve is on the run from authorities because, as he puts it, if anyone's going to be the one to kill Steve, it'll be him. He shows nothing but disgust and contempt towards Steve for refusing to use his powers for evil reasons and is willing to kill him and threaten the people he loves just to try and motivate him into giving in to his dark urges, showing that power and destruction are predominately the only things on his mind.
Brine is also highly intelligent and skilled in deception, being able to take the forms of people closest to his targets as a means of enacting psychological torment upon his victims. In the case of Steve, he took the form of his late father and was capable of pulling off a convincing act of a loving, albeit regretful father upset by having to leave his child so soon before shedding the disguise and revealing his true nature. Even while possessing Robert's body, he still kept the charade of being the boy's supposedly undead father because he was confident enough that Steve would never piece together the truth. His act even went as far as pretending to care about Robert's wife, Anna, and attacking Jack when he bad-mouthed her, showing his dedication towards concealing his identity and using the image of Steve's dad to taunt him just for fun.
Despite his intelligence and sufficiently adaptive planning capabilities, Brine is still a ruthless, vicious, depraved monster at his core. He possesses no qualms about taking the lives of innocent people, either to suit his own needs or just for the sake of needless killing. With Steve, he dropped Amy Rose from a tall building to her death just to show him how it feels to lose someone he loves and coldly told Amy, who assumed he was in fact Robert, that he wasn't at all a good man, and showed no remorse for her death, taunting Steve before he snapped and ultimately defeated him. He also savagely mauled two of Frederick Briggs' squadmates for little reason other than sheer sadism. Coupled with his grandiose view of himself and sense of self-importance, he views humans as inferior creatures due to his supernatural abilities and desires to put them in their place by spreading chaos and causing destruction. His opinion of them is so little that he even assists Entity_303 in his goal of wiping humanity out by lending him what remains of his power, completely unconcerned with the destruction of the human race and the fate of the Earth as long as he can achieve a vessel to walk on it.
Even if it serves no purpose or at all contributes to his overarching plans, Brine will gladly take any opportunity to kill people and psychologically torment his victims, driving Gary Miller to suicide after causing a cave-in that killed his squadmate, Jamie Hanks. He psychologically tormented Frederick Briggs in the following years after leaving the army, even making him hallucinate a sequence in where Brine pushes him into a pit of lava and falls off the island in the End after killing some burglars, with his powers slowly eating away at Frederick's body and mental state until he died. Brine is completely devoid of any sign of empathy and possesses no genuine friendships with anyone, not even Entity_303, his one positive interaction, as he only teamed up with him to get what he wanted and likely would've vocally scoffed at his delusions of "curing" the world considering his own desires for senseless chaos had he not been in a position of weakness and desperation.
Overall, Brine is a heartless, egocentric, self-centered entity who puts his own personal freedom above the lives of mortals and only wishes to destroy everything in his path for the fun of it.

Quotes[]
“ | Steve: Dad... Is it really you? "Robert": Of course it is! How is Jack treating you? Steve: He's alright, I guess. I didn't know he was religious. "Robert": Yeah, always has been, only one in the family. [chuckles] Steve: Why did you do it? "Robert": Well, I don't wanna talk about it. I'm just happy to see you again. Let's not ruin this. Steve: No, Dad, I wanna talk about it. I wanna know! One day you were fine, the next... You told me we would make it through Mom's death together. "Robert": I know, Steve, and I'm sorry. Steve: Why didn't you tell me? "Robert": I was sick, okay? I was going to die. I didn't want you to go through that alone. That's why I called your uncle, that's why I wanted him to take care of you. Steve: Why didn't you tell me? "Robert": I didn't want you to go through it. You already have enough on your mind. Besides, I wanted you to enjoy your final months of high school. Steve: Enjoy? Enjoy? Dad, I've been bullied my entire life. My school life has been miserable! You telling me wouldn't have made a difference. "Robert": I know... Steve: I'm gonna head back. See you soon, maybe. "Robert": What's the rush? Steve: Hey, Dad, um... can I ask you a question? "Robert": Yes! Of course, anything! Steve: What's your name? "Robert": What? Steve: You heard me. What's your name? "Robert": Okay, Steve, now you're starting-- Steve: Answer the question. "Robert": [Brine would begin to laugh] You think you're so smart, don't you? What gave me away? Steve: Your answers. They were complete bullshit. "Robert": [Brine would let out a monstrous roar, shattering the window and forcing Steve to retreat downstairs where he reappeared] Did you think you could escape? IN MY WORLD!? |

Trivia[]
- Despite Steve's death in Herobrine Origins Part IV, it would appear as though Brine remains trapped in the End for eternity, despite being fully capable of possessing dead bodies. It's likely that with Steve's death and his strong connection to his abilities, they faded away from him when he died, meaning that Brine couldn't possess him.
- This would also explain why he never re-possessed Robert's body after Part III, as it's possible the connection between him and Robert was severed when Steve snapped his neck.
