~ Buried Alive, should the player lose against him |
Buried Alive, also known as the Buryman, is the titular main antagonist of the Pokèmon Creepypasta of the same name. He is allegedly the original boss of the Pokémon Tower in Red and Blue, before being scrapped and replaced with the ghost of a Marowak. A cannibalistic trainer deemed unfit for the game, remnants of his boss fight have been allegedly found within the game's files.
The original author of the creepypasta is unknown, but the sprites that are most associated with him were made by QueenKami.
Appearance[]
Buried Alive takes the form of a decaying human corpse, whose latter half is stuck underneath a pile of rubble, hence the name. Buried Alive, due to this predicament, seems to be perpetually in a state of malnourishment, as his ribcage is visibly seen on his sprite. Due to the limitations of the Game Boy, Buried Alive has a limited color pallet, causing his to have pale white skin. Buried Alive's mouth is perpetually left in a gape, and his eyes are sunken in with white pupils. Occasionally, depictions may give Buried Alive glowing red pupils.
Personality[]
Due to having allegedly been cut early in development, not much of Buried Alive's personality is known. However, from what was recovered from the game files, Buried Alive seems to be affable enough to talk to the player, even after having been trapped for an unknown amount of time. Buried Alive also seems to dislike being left alone, being one of the only things he mentions before asking the player to join him.
Buried Alive seems to bear no ill will towards his Pokémon, as his Muk and Gengar are at high levels, and seem to be completely unharmed compared to others of the same species. However, this could be due to both of those Pokémon being made up of substances that would be unsafe for consumption (toxic sludge and gas, respectively).
At the end of the day, despite any good qualities that Buried Alive may have, he still wants to kill and eat Red, as shown in his game over screen.
Biography[]
Buried Alive's past has been lost to time, but Buried Alive was presumably a regular Pokémon trainer before becoming what he is now. Buried atop the Pokémon Tower, he lies in wait for those who come across him, challenging these passersby with a Pokémon battle.
Buried Alive has a total of four Pokémon, a Muk, a Gengar, and two White Hands (enemies exclusive to the Pokémon Tower). All four of these Pokémon are far more powerful than any of the nearby wild Pokémon, as well as all of the surrounding trainer's Pokémon.
Should Red lose to Buried Alive, Buried Alive will eat the young trainer before moving on to his next meal.

Trivia[]
- No actual data has been found for any event that plays after Buried Alive's defeat, causing the game to freeze.
- After losing to Buried Alive, the game is meant to download a bit of data on the Game Boy's hardware, replacing the title screen with his game over screen whenever it was attempted to be turned on. This, of course, would render the Game Boy unusable.
- The White Hands are allegedly also cut enemies that haunt the Pokémon Tower, taking on the form of decaying hands that used animated attacks, unlike the rest of the battle sprites in the Gen 1 games. Despite having two separate animations for "Fist" and "Brutal", they are most commonly seen using Transform during Buried Alive's battle.
- The White Hands are directly inspired by a line from an NPC in Lavender Town who asks Red if he believes in ghosts. Replying with "No" will cause the NPC to remark "Hahaha, I guess not. That white hand on your shoulder, it's not real."
- This line goes unexplained, but it does mean that the White Hand is the only part of the creepypasta with any basis in canon.
- Due to Buried Alive being stationed in Lavender Town's Pokémon Tower, Buried Alive has been linked to the infamous "Lavender Town Syndrome" creepypasta, though how he directly connects to the other strange events associated with the town are unknown.
