Most of all, I want their captain... Peter Pan! It was he who cut off me arm! I’ve waited long to shake his hand with this!
~ James Hook

Captain James Hook, real name James Archer, is the central antagonist of the Never, Neverland Series.

Serving as the main antagonist of the 2024 musical play Peter Pan and Wendy, as well as the main protagonist of the tie in novel Hooked and the posthumous overarching antagonist in Never, NeverLand. He is a villainous pirate captain and the archenemy of Peter Pan. He is based off the character of the same name.

He is portrayed by Samuel Foshee, who also plays Mr. Darling within the same play. He also plays Alefrick from The Reluctant Dragon, and Karen TopHump from Clowning Around: The Fool, The Fiend, The Formidable.

Biography[]

Hooked![]

James was born into a life of privilege and prestige, the son of a wealthy merchant. He was best friends with Peter Allan. They used to play together and have all sorts of fun. Yet, despite the comforts of his upbringing, James craved adventure and excitement that his privileged life couldn't offer.

One day, to James’ dismay, Peter got sent away to a new home, never to see James again. This action hurt James, but he soon forgot about it. As a boy, James was enamored with tales of the high seas and the fearless pirates who ruled them. He would spend hours reading stories of swashbuckling adventures, dreaming of the day he would set sail and carve his name into the annals of history.

But fate had other plans for young James. As he grew older, he found himself torn between the expectations of his family and the yearnings of his heart. His father, a stern and formidable man, had grand ambitions for his son, envisioning a future of wealth and power within the confines of London society. However, James rebelled against his father's wishes, determined to make his mark on the world in his own way. He secretly began to associate with unsavory characters, drawn to the allure of the seedy underbelly of the city. It wasn't long before James found himself entangled in a world of deceit and treachery, his thirst for adventure leading him down a dangerous path.

One fateful night, while wandering the docks in search of excitement, James stumbled upon a band of ruthless pirates preparing to set sail. Drawn by the promise of adventure, he approached their captain, a fearsome figure known only as Blackbeard.

Impressed by James's audacity and thirst for adventure, Blackbeard offered him a place aboard his ship, the dreaded Jolly Roger. Eager to escape the confines of his mundane existence, James accepted without hesitation, leaving behind his old life and embracing his new identity as a pirate. Under Blackbeard's tutelage, James flourished, quickly rising through the ranks to become one of the most feared and respected pirates on the high seas.

One day, plundering in the island of “Neverland,” James got into a confrontation with Peter, now known as Peter Pan. Getting angry that James had become a pirate, one thing Peter hated more than anything, Peter cut off James’ hand. Refusing to be defeated, James fashioned a fearsome hook in place of his missing hand, a constant reminder of the price he had paid for his thirst for adventure. From that day forth, he was known only as Captain Hook, a name that struck fear into the hearts of sailors far and wide.

Peter Pan And Wendy[]

Like in the original play, James Hook is first seen when the pirates stumble upon the lost boys hide out.

Hook, along with the other pirates, make a plan to poison the children with cake while Peter is away from home. (Blow The Pan Down) Suddenly, a slow ticking sound is heard. It is the crocodile and he chases Hook away from the hideout.

Soon after that, Hook and the pirates come back to the hideout with a green, sloppy cake. They leave it by a nearby tree so the boys can see it. However, Wendy threw the cake away. In anger, Hook stormed away. Later, he is seen complaining to Smee about how his plans fail, as he tries to come up with a new one. Smee helps him with an idea: Kidnap Wendy and make her the pirates’ mother. Hook loves this idea but gets distracted by John and Michael. He kidnaps the boys, along with Tiger Lily. (Yo-Ho-Ho (Reprise))

While at Mermaid Lagoon, Hook makes a deal with Tiger Lily; If she captures Peter and brings him to Hook, then he’ll sent her free. She refuses, making Hook angry. Peter, imitating Hook’s voice, distract Hook long enough for Tiger Lily, John and Michael to escape. This leads to a fight between Hook and Peter. (Bei Mir Bist Du Schon).

After the fight, Peter and Wendy go back to the underground home. While there, Hook and his pirates attack the natives, and trick the lost boys to leave their home. Hook kidnaps Wendy and leaves posion in Peter’s drink.

Hook’s final scene is the climax of the play when Hook and his pirates sing about their victory against Peter. (The Dastardly Captain Hook!) However, Peter sneaks aboard and fights Hook, leading him to jump into the crocodile’s mouth, ending the Captain

Never, Neverland![]

Hook is only seen once in the novel, and that's when Peter looks in the mirror to see Hook instead of his own reflection. The reflection then tells Peter that he became the one thing he hated: A pirate. This falls heavy on Peter, leading him down the decent of his villainy.
