~ Cara Liss's insecure breakdown as a Crantrum tries to lure her

Cara Liss is the villainous main protagonist of the art series Project: CROSSIL by TipsyRa1d3n. A fugitive mad scientist responsible for the creation of the Galarian fossil Pokémon, Cara Liss would flee to the Russo region after her crimes were exposed, being hired by the terrorist group RRRP to help them produce hybrid Pokémon as agents to wreak havoc on nearby regions. She is the arch-nemesis of Lieutenant Surge, whom she has a personal grudge against thanks to her time working for him in the Kantonian military.

Appearance[]

Similar to her game incarnation, Cara Liss is a young woman with black hair in a bob cut, a flat nose and light skin. She appears to wear the outfit of her game incarnation, being a white lab jacket, dark blue jeans and a black inner shirt, though these are now much cleaner. Cara's eyes are also squinted most of the time, though she does open them at times to reveal black pupils.

Personality[]

Suiting her occupation as a mad scientist, Cara Liss is an arrogant and cunning woman, often boasting about her accomplishments and being comfortable with resorting to whatever means she feels necessary to accomplish her goals. Enjoying to brag about her creations, she often sprinkles in her own comments and personal thoughts in logs about them, being rather showman-like as she enjoys amping up certain factors in her schemes, though she does get surprised when things go smoother than expected. She is also notably short-tempered, frequently lashing out in rage at others when things go wrong which causes her to execute reckless decisions, such as going driving when drunk. Cara is materialistic to a tee, being fixated with collecting rewards and perks from her job, often lavishly spending as well.

A notable aspect of Cara's character is her wrathful personality and vengefulness. Owing to her abusive childhood and mistreatment in her time as an ex-convict, Cara takes sadistic pleasure in the suffering of others, remorselessly mocking the victims of her creations and showing a distinct lack of empathy towards others.

Most distinctly, Cara has an obsession with those that have wronged her in the past, particularly Lieutenant Surge and his Raichu, Ace. Bearing a hatred towards Surge for his toxic treatment of her and Ace for ruining her chances of unveiling fusion technology to the world, Cara Liss has thus far gone out of her way to psychologically break down the duo, kidnapping Ace from Surge and mutating him into a Shadow Pokémon, while forcing Surge to endure days on his own in the wild without his Pokemon and eventually confronting him at a mockery of his gym. Even when Surge acknowledges his faults as a leader and role in molding Cara into the monster she is today, she refuses to forgive him and outright mocks him for his attempt at apologising.

Furthermore, Cara Liss despises her late mother Ruth for denying her a proper childhood, with her abuse and mistreatment molding Cara into the bitter and borderline psychopathic person she is today. In fact, Cara's memory of her is so bitter that her main motivation is to prove herself better than whatever her mother could be, with Cara screaming in hate and anger after hearing a Crantrum using Ruth's voice to try and lure her.

Despite this, Cara isn't completely heartless and does show empathy to some people. She shares a close friendship with her former partner in crime, Bray Zenn, frequently joking around with him and even risking her life and employment to rescue him from a prison in Kanto, with Cara trusting Bray to bring her to her senses if her experiments go too far. Furthermore, Cara cares deeply for her pet Bambadily Chip thanks to likening her broken past to his unnatural creation. As such, she frequently pampers him and treats him like a baby, even letting him come into her workspace. Furthermore, Cara does feel bad about the criminal acts she conducts but feels that she's forced to continue doing them as it's her way of life. She also does have a degree of empathy towards her creations, refusing to call them failures, though this is only because she doesn't want to compare anybody to her mother.

Biography[]

Background[]

Hailing from Kanto, Cara Liss was born to the con artist Ruth Liss, who, despite considering herself a scientist, was a lazy and incompetent dropout with an alcohol addiction. Instead, Ruth advanced in society by seducing and gaining the services of powerful men, with Cara's father being a Team Rocket agent Ruth seduced to get a home and steady income. Over time, Ruth would continue seducing different men and swapping boyfriends constantly, climbing the evil team's hierarchy while neglecting Cara, only teaching her certain skills of conning to ensure she had a legacy to leave behind. One day, Cara would accidentally walk in on Ruth doing the deed with her next boyfriend, disgusting him so much that he left immediately. This would cause a greater rift to split between mother and daughter, with Ruth despising Cara for sabotaging her chance at a higher salary and Cara hating Ruth for neglecting her in favour of her own luxury.

One day, Ruth would pass away in the middle of a science project, leaving Cara alone. Surviving as a con woman to sustain her scientific passion, Cara would eventually be arrested and sent to prison. Cara would later be released from prison, causing her to decide to turn over a new leaf and support herself in honest ways. Enrolling as a field medic under Lieutenant Surge, Cara would find that, despite her earnest attempts at becoming better, nobody in the camp trusted her thanks to her criminal background, with Surge even repeatedly mocking and demeaning her. Furthermore, Cara would be a victim of the rowdiness of Ace, Surge's Raichu, who would unleash electricity everywhere and shock innocent passerbys, with Cara being forced to continue with her duties despite suffering nerve damage from Ace's electric bolts.

During this time, Cara would invent a novel method of organ grafting, allowing the tissue of different Pokémon to be fused together without rejection. Hearing of a colleague's Squirtle, Franklin, whose heart condition prevented him from swimming, Cara would create a composite heart from Squirtle and Bulbasaur tissue, hoping to transplant it into Franklin and give him better heart functions. However, one day Lt. Surge would order Ace to unleash a thunderbolt dangerously close to Cara's equipment, destroying her laptop and the composite heart. Seeing Cara secretly holding this equipment, the other soldiers once again perceived her as a criminal. To make matters worse, Franklin would tragically drown trying to save his owner on patrol that day, with Cara being unable to resuscitate him thanks to the heart being destroyed. For this, Cara was labelled and scorned as a liar and a thief.

Completely embittered and disillusioned at her chance at redemption, Cara deserted the Kanto army and travelled to Galar, where she would ruin the reputation of the entire region's paleontological department by creating and registering the Galarian fossil Pokémon with her partner Bray Zenn. On the way, Cara would also travel to other regions, scamming people by creating new Pokémon via her fusion tech.

Project: CROSSIL[]

Sometime after the events of Pokémon: Sword and Shield, Cara and Bray's crimes would be uncovered, causing Cara to escape to the Russo region while Bray, remorseful for his acts, would turn himself in to the authorities. In the Russo region, Cara would come in contact with the RRRP and begin creating fossil Pokémon for them under a contract, using her fusion technology to fuse the DNA of different Pokémon together to produce the Crossils: abominations meant to wreak havoc on the RRRP's enemies.
