Monster? I'm not a monster. I'M A GOD!
~ Turbo Mecha Sonic.
Your really pathetic... All this worlds, all their powers... Are must be mine! It IS my purpose! It IS my destiny! It IS... ME!
~ Ultimate Copycat gloats about his desire to become ruler of multiverse, while fighting the Fantasier.

Also known as Godhood Seekers, this is a type of villain frequently found in media; these villains, as the name suggests, seek to become a deity, if not God himself. It is usually a powerful and megalomaniacal villain who seeks absolute and never-ending dominion over everything. If they were to achieve this insane goal, they would proclaim themselves the new god of the world (or universe) or overthrow the existing divinity and take its place.

Becoming a god usually means to become a "perfect being"; immortal, omnipotent, and unmatchable, but some might be content by simply becoming all-powerful or immortal, as they already consider that no one can kill or surpass them. Those who already consider themselves as a god also fall in this category, if they are powerful enough and coerce the people they oppress to worship them. In some cases, god wannabes, as stated above, can already be some kind of deity and have gained omnipotence to some degree, but wish to go one step further and become a supreme being.

On the contrary, omnipotent Reality Warpers, despite wielding god-like powers are not God Wannabes, except if they proclaim to be God on a regular basis. In the same way, "Cult Leaders" does not necessarily mean "God Wannabe".
