One thing was certain, Pride was the leader of the sins every time. The root of all evil. Prides were always known to be particularly despicable, but this one has been in his job for 300 years, the longest running pride in history! This one was also the most cruel. He enjoyed the suffering of others, and didn't show any care for his fellow sins. He only cared for himself and his fire cat, blazer.
~ The Narrator about Pride, explaining his cruel nature, while also pointing out his redeeming quality.

Villains who are approved as Near Pure Evils on the wiki of the same name. While they may not be as heinous as Complete Monsters, they are heinous enough to be considered close to being one, as long as they don't have too many preventions. They should at least be 75% close to being Complete Monsters, and unlike Complete Monsters, they can have redeeming qualities or other mitigating factors, but they are limited. Their opposites are Near Pure Goods.

By having simple context to have a basic understanding of a Near Pure Evil, one must under that they follow the six principles of the Pure criteria fairly well. With the six being

  • They stand as the minority as one of worst or at least somewhat comparable to how heinous a pure evil would be in the story and have to have some form of conceptual thought in committing wrong.
  • They are taken seriously as comic relief would not be fitting to how serious they should be taken and laughably evil is as close as they're gonna get to comic relief due to how how that would go too much in the opposite direction of not lightening the mood.
  • They are hardly ever presented in a positive way.
  • They can only make a few exceptions to who they care about or have a very limited amount of respect the foundations they try to create without being an anti-villain, grey zoned, on and off and a mostly affably evil.
  • While they may have redeeming qualities, they are not good or even neutral.
  • Their remorse is minimal.

These are types of villains that cannot or at least don't usually apply to be Near Pure Evils:

Some Rejected CMs could also qualify to be Near Pure Evils. However, just because a villain is Rejected CM does not automatically make them Near Pure Evil, as they may have too many preventions. Likewise, villains who have not been rejected as CMs can still qualify as Near Pure Evil, as long as they meet the criteria.

Sliding Scale of Villainy

  • Complete Monster - The worst of the worst. They clear the Heinous Standard, have no redeeming qualities (or they did, but lost them later), they know what they're doing and their deeds are played for horror.
  • Near Pure Evils - They are almost about as bad as Complete Monsters, but they may have at least one or two or even three preventions that prevent them from truly qualifying. However, they still can stand out and be nearly as bad.
  • Inconsistently Heinous - Whilst these villains are as heinous as Complete Monsters, they also have too many inconsistencies/redeeming qualities to count as either Near Pure Evil or a Complete Monster.
  • Standard/Outright - These are villains who still have lines that they will not cross. They are better than CMs, but not by much.
  • Affably Evil - These are villains who can be nice even through they're doing evil things. And they aren't just pretend friendly, they are genuinely friendly.
  • Villains by Proxy - The best of the worst. These villains don't even want to be evil, but for some reason, they are evil.
