“ | Howdy. I... am Chara. The demon that comes... when people call its name. It doesn't matter when. It doesn't matter where. Time after time... I will appear. | „ |
~ Chara introducing herself. |
“ | Interesting. Looks like you found a way to reach me. [...] (chuckles) After all these years... you still don't understand. You are NOT in control. [...] Fine. So... do you wanna have a bad time? | „ |
~ Chara to Frisk just before their battle begins. |
“ | What were you hoping for? To get your happy ending back? You cannot change the past. You are not above the consequences... but you already know this. Move on... come with me. Let's destroy the next world... together. | „ |
~ Chara after having defeated Frisk, proposing him to destroy a new world together. |
Chara is the titular main antagonist of the Undertale fan-animation Frisk vs Chara, Undertale animation. She's the first human to have fallen into the Underground, now having become an unstoppable and murderous demon.
She was voiced by Jessy Spongy.
Personality[]
Chara displays a sadistic, and savage personality, clearly enjoying causing harm to others and tormenting Frisk. She also clearly wants to make Frisk understand that he is not in control and that he can't escape from the consequences of what he did.
While Chara clearly has no care for her adoptive family, it's implied that she might have at least some degree of care for Frisk, although this "care" ultimately seems twisted and possessive.
Biography[]
Chara's backstory is presumably similar to her original counterpart's. However, this version of Chara doesn't seem to have had an involvement with Frisk committing genocide, or at least not until the very end (since it's at least known that she possessed Frisk to kill Sans). What's known for sure is that she erased the world and took Frisk's soul, with it having seemingly been years between these two events and the video.
With W. D. Gaster's help, Frisk eventually manages reach Chara again, with the latter sitting on Asgore's throne while holding a wounded Flowey, only to kill him without a care. The three soon start fighting, and even with Gaster's help Chara proves herself to be an extraordinary adversary, eventually even managing to kill the monster scientist himself.
Throughout the fight, Chara continuously taunts Frisk by showing him images of his friends, with the last being a possessed Frisk killing Sans. Despite everything, however, Frisk doesn't give up and charges at Chara one last time; the latter, with a sad expression, slices Frisk, defeating him for good. After this, Chara makes Frisk understand that he can't change what's already happened, before offering him to destroy the next world together.
The video ends with Toriel from Deltarune speaking, seemingly implying that Chara and Frisk reincarnated into Kris.
Quotes[]
“ | You know, it's quite strange... it's raining outside. | „ |
~ Chara, just before getting attacked by Frisk and Gaster. |
“ | This is your fault! You know it! | „ |
~ Chara calling out Frisk for their murders. |
Trivia[]
- This version of Chara shares some aspects that are extremely common among fanon interpretations of the character:
- She's female.
- She's much more malevolent than her original counterpart and lacks the latter's mitigating qualities.
- She has red eyes.
- She displays extraordinary powers and superhuman characteristics.
- Interestingly enough, this version of Chara doesn't seem to be responsible (or, at least, not fully) for Frisk committing genocide, despite it being a pretty common fanon interpretation of the character. This is especially particular since, as said above, she does display other common fanon characteristics.
- Unlike the original Chara, this version isn't a child (without counting a few scenes where she takes the appearance of one) but appears to be either a teenager or a young adult (which actually isn't too weird considering it's unknown how much time exactly passed between Canon!Chara's arrival to the Underground and Canon!Frisk's, so it's plausible that if Chara hadn't died they'd be a teenager or even an adult by the time of Frisk's arrival).
