~ Chinatsu showing how much she loves the Killing Game to a participant. |
Chinatsu Johnson is a major antagonist in the Danganronpa fangame Danganronpa V4 Rocky Restarts. She’s the self-proclaimed Ultimate Cashier.
Like the mastermind, she’s a fanatic obsessed with everything related to Danganronpa, and is perfectly fine with helping replicate the franchise’s death game in real life[1][2].
Personality[]
Chinatsu is a socially awkward person who’s completely obsessed with Danganronpa, to the point where she doesn’t mind real people dying as long as it leads to another Danganronpa season being made. She is very enthusiastic about the show, even trying to predict deaths and being sad that she’s just an intern rather than a participant.
While she loves the cast, it’s only because she sees them as characters rather than people. She’s helpful and friendly towards them, but she still shows no empathy despite knowing they are suffering and is often seen rooting for their deaths. Overall, her personality is a parody of the way most Danganronpa fans act.
Her obsession with Danganronpa is so big that she’s willing to break the rules and risk her own life just to participate in the Killing Game.
Biography[]
Background[]
She always had an obsession with Japanese stuff, notably Danganronpa and Vocaloid, even changing her legal name to Chinatsu. Thanks to a website, she found out about Victor’s upcoming Danganronpa season and volunteered to participate, and was accepted. She knew that it was going to involve a real death game but that only made her more excited for it.
Prologue[]
While Chinatsu doesn’t appear directly, she is the bus driver who picked up the 16 students and brought them to the camp, where the Killing Game was going to take place. She entered the camp before everybody else and was hired by Monokuma as an intern.
Chapter 1[]
Kim encounters Chinatsu in the shop while exploring the newly unlocked area. Chinatsu reveals that she’s working as a shopkeeper and nurse, while lamenting that she’s not a participant. She seemed very excited for the Killing Game, which freaked out Kim a bit, though they were still friendly to each other. Chinatsu claimed to be the Ultimate Cashier, but Monokuma appears and states the opposite, that she’s just a regular cashier.
Marie and Kim later encounter Chinatsu while she is using her cameras to watch Emily chase Julien. Chinatsu states that she has surveillance cameras everywhere and likes watching everyone as a form of entertainment. Kim asks if she can use it to see if Glenn is alright, but Chinatsu hesitates and asks Monokuma for permission first. Monokuma reminds Chinatsu that she shouldn’t be helping participants but decides to allow it just this time. Chinatsu then uses her cameras and reveals that Glenn is just sleeping, much to Kim’s relief. Emily then shows up and asks Chinatsu for help because of an accident involving Julien.
Glenn was later found dead. Chinatsu showed up and was very happy because her prediction was right, stating that the victim had “major death flags”. Monokuma angrily tells her to go back to the shop.
Chinatsu was very excited that the first murder happened, even joking about how ironic it is that the “Ultimate Survivalist” died first and how Kim’s gonna get emotional development from her friend dying, much to Marie’s anger.
Chapter 2[]
Monokuma gathered everyone in the laundry room to reveal the second motive: He had Chinatsu put up a white board revealing shocking secrets about every participant. Monokuma also explained that if nobody commits a murder within 7 days, the secrets will be revealed to the public.
Norah later tries to get a jerry can with five gallons of gasoline from Chinatsu while insisting that it should be free. Chinatsu refuses at first but later decides on a deal: Norah can get the 5 gallons of gasoline for free, but she still has to pay for the jerry can, which Norah also refuses to accept. Kim and Marcus decide to pay for the jerry can so that Norah wouldn’t be there all day.
Kim later encounters Chinatsu watching everyone at the diner and wondering who was going to be the next murder victim.
Chapter 3[]
At some point while walking through the forest, Kim fell down a cliff and got very injured. However, she managed to go back to the camp and was nursed by Chinatsu.
Chapter 5[]
After the two got into a fight, Marie accidentally injured Norah, and then brought her to Chinatsu to be healed. However, Chinatsu was desperate to be a participant, so she decided to neglect her job and let Norah die. She then painted Norah’s corpse white and hid it among a pile of clothes, in a way that she would look like a random mannequin.
The body discovery announcement later played, much to everyone’s confusion as none of them recalled having found the corpse (in reality they did, but confused it for a mannequin, like Chinatsu intended). They asked Chinatsu about it, who revealed that someone brought Norah to her, but lied that it disappeared while she wasn’t looking. Marie, knowing she’s not the culprit and wanting to avoid suspicions, admits that she’s the one who accidentally injured Norah and brought her to Chnatsu.
Monokuma lectured Chinatsu for “giving away evidence” and forced her to enter a rocket, which was fired off into the sky but later crashed into the land and exploded, leaving only Chinatsu’s skeleton. Monokuma then told everyone they have one hour to find Norah’s body or they will have to attend the trial without that evidence. They weren’t able to find it.
During the trial, the participants concluded that the late Chinatsu was the culprit, even figuring out the mannequin trick. Monokuma knew how much of a Danganronpa fanatic Chinatsu was and didn't like the idea of her being an official Danganronpa culprit, so he decided to instead execute Marie, as she is the one who injured Norah in the first place.
