Chris Hamberg is a major antagonist of the TV series Playground Combat. He is a contestant who joins an illegal game project under the guidance of The Auditor and he is known for being a fearsome criminal who killed at least hundreds of people.
He is portrayed by Drew Powell who also played Butch Gilzean.
History[]
He is a fearsome criminal who is known for brutally killing hundreds of people, if not more. Chris at first pushes Sasha and confronts her for her betrayal, right until Jeremiah intervenes and tries to protect Sasha. Chris then shifts his anger onto Jeremiah, and he promises that the entire team shall die one by one.
As Chris overhears that the first game for the 35 million dollar prize is hockey with broomsticks, he sets up his own gang and orders his men to break their rival's broomsticks so that they will have more chances of winning. Chris successfully has one of his own men winning since he broke some broomsticks before the game started and one of his men showed up as a volunteer, thus winning the rival. Due to Chris' influence and cheating, one of the question team members die as a result of his elimination.
Chris is then confronted by the old man George Glenn, who mocks him for being such a looser.
Later on, all of the contestants including Chris are invited to the dining room for breakfast. However, it was all canceled since Chris and his false ex-fiancee Dinah Starson ate all of the food by themselves, as he even promised that his entire gang shall have food and he didn't keep this promise.
Thereafter, he had energy for the next game and was healthy as everyone else has starved. Without Chris knowing about this, one of his team members opened a torture chamber in order to find out who the traitor among the contestants really is. That was no other person than Chen Wu, who plotted to betray everyone and finish the games so he could run off with the prize money.
Chris then showed off to Dinah with a sword, as she told him that she liked it. However, Sasha then entered the room and she had revealed the truth about Chris' ambition to win the game to Dinah. Dinah realizes that Chris was just using her and the others for his own purposes, and he betrays her thus threatening to kill her with the sword. Dinah shows her final act of strength and redemption by telling him that everyone shall eventually see him for who he truly is; a sociopath with pure intent of harming others around him no matter how many people get hurt, and she promises him that someone will avenge her death if he kills her. He out of his own ego and ambition killed her brutally with his sword and therefore, a shocked Sasha threatens that she will be the one to avenge Dinah's death. After Dinah is brutally mutilated by Chris, the madman takes her head for himself as a trophy.
Chris later participates in the "Red Light, Green Light" game as he pushes other contestants to make them get up and die due to their movement. He makes it through the game. At midnight, Chen reveals him the truth and the two plan to kill all the contestants until they can find the traitor among the players so they can sell the bodies to a black marketing company called Delatrux with corrupt guards, and also get revenge on the traitor who started the game in excahnge for life as the corrupt ones will let them escape with the money.
Chris later informs his many goons about his plans with Chen to brutally massacre the other contestants and bring the traitor to Chen Wu so he will be tortured, if he is found. Chris takes the opportunity to win the game all by himself, regardless of his gang or of Chen, simply by eliminating other contestants violently.
During the night, Chris and his many goons attack the other contestants, thus killing at least 118 contestants as the amount was later confirmed by a PC guard. However, after George Glenn spoke and the guards intervened under the orders of a secret traitor among the players called "The Secret One", Chris along with his goons were all forced to stop his violent plans, as it was killing too many contestants before the valid time to do so.
Later on, Chris participates in a made up game with marbles and the winner of the game took all the marbles inside a sack and went off to the next playground. Chris chose to play against his own right-hand enforcer, Lang Donfield.
Chris and Lang were very close but as Chris threw his last marble, he was the winner since he got two marbles into the hole and their goal was to get at least one of them in. Whilst Lang was shocked, Chris gloated in victory and started taunting Lang and mentioning aggressively that he knew that his own teammate and chief lieutenant was going to loose like a coward. Lang was killed, and Chris moved into the next game zone.
Chris comes to the next game which is a traveling "capture the flag" mission inside a snowy field with a large mountain. Chris and the others are ordered by the PC guards to find 3 flags for the 3 finalists as the other contestants shall be eliminated, or in other words, killed. Chris immediately pushes one of his former goons and the latter attempts to kill him with a knife, right until Chris shows no fear and taunts him by telling him that he has the upper hand and he doesn't care, right before he tells the others that the place is hell and that from now he will dictate their rules and become the leader. He was anyway going to kill everyone. However, William Savin made his last pose of a good guy in order to cover up what he had done to Roman Treece and Chris immediately points out the truth as an act of vengeance and hatred.
Chris promises to find the three flags and take them all so he can survive alone with no "loosers" left. He goes to find the flags and escape but Sasha Makarov goes to avenge his ex-girlfriend's death at his own hands. Chris eventually turns around and realizes that Sasha followed him. He threatens to kill her with a sword, but Sasha tells him that if he is not a coward he must kill her with his bare hands like a man. He does so, drops the sword, but Sasha surprisingly grabs the sword. He begs for her to give the sword back and she refuses and kills him immediately.
Personality[]
He is a man of pure sadism and ruthlessness, and he enjoys killing, physically torturing and terrorizing other contestants with no mercy or remorse at all. Despite his ego and viciousness, however, he does have reliable strategy which makes him a strategic mastermind despite him not being the smartest one in the contest. He is also treacherous, as he pretended to fall in love with Dinah Starson for survival, just so he could betray her later and chop off her head before he takes it as his own trophy.
