“ | OH PLEASE. Every one of you here are just as guilty as I am! You’re using me as a SCAPEGOAT to make yourselves all feel better about your OWN involvement! BUT WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU GUYS, HUH? My hands may be dirty, but so are everyone one of yours. | „ |
~ Chris to the other contestants about Duncan’s Suicide, saying they were just at fault and were blaming him solely to use him as a scapegoat. |
Chris McLean is the overarching antagonist of Total Trauma, a deconstruction drama comedy web series based on the Animated Show Total Drama. He is the lead host of Total Drama, in which he had over 30 teenage contestants do very dangerous challenges in front of the entire viewing audience. While Chris is no longer in their lives, his actions show a massive traumatic effects in the contestants.
Personality[]
Chris McLean, like his canon counterpart, is a egotistical, greedy and sadistic and maniacal sociopath who cares less about the contestants saftey and more about getting money.
We see that he is very corrupt and greedy, placing the insecure teenagers in the spotlight for the sake of profit, showing to hurt the contestants and even lead them with lasting physical disabilities, such as Alejandro, who is stuck in a wheelchair due to being in a robot for years.
Despite this, Chris does show some actual humanity. When hearing about Duncan’s attempted suicide and being in the hospital, Chris shows genuine sadness, managing to get a few tears while having his stoic look and even going to the hospital to ask how Duncan is, and when everyone yells and attacks him, he admits about his flaws, but accuses the ones around him that they are using him as a scapegoat who isn’t blaming themselves for their involvement. He may also show some care for Ezekiel, searching around the island to try and find him.
According to the creator, Chris’ reaction was due to gaining an attachment to other contestants, most of all Duncan, as he saw him as a younger version of him and watched all the children grew up, showing that Chris does manage to show deep down some care for the contestants.
He also shows to still retain his friendship with Chef Hatchet, talking about shows while in a hot tub with him. The creator also confirms that he was willing to release Alejandro from the robot after he healed, and was horrified and angry at Chef for neglecting Alejandro during his time in prison.
History[]
Background[]
Before the start of the series, Chris made about 5 seasons (according to the creator, only a bit of All Stars are canon, making it a weird canonical timeline) in which he had over 30 teenage contestants onto his island over the seasons and made them go through dangerous and deadly challenges for profit and viewerships.
These years of being shoved in the spotlight, going through dangerous challenges and being stressed caused them to become the worst versions of themselves and caused them many issues and life changing injures, with the main recipients being Gwen, Heather, Courtney, Duncan, Lindsay, Alejandro and Zoey.
Total Trauma[]
Chris manages to show a few appearances within the series, although brief.
His first official appearance appears is in the 9th issue, Unbothered, where he is in a hot tub with Chef, discussing Rose Quartz from Steven Universe being revealed to be Pink Diamond.
After Duncan's attempted suicide and being in the hospital, Chris gets a call about it, where he attempts to keep his stoic look, before starting to tear up. In the issue called Scapegoat, when everyone is in the waiting room waiting for Duncan to wake up, Chris comes in, much to everyone’s horror. Chris attempts to ask about Duncan’s condition, before getting kicked down by Izzy. The contestants start yelling at Chris to get out and how Duncan caused it because of him.
Chris snaps and shouts at everyone, saying that, while his hands were dirty, they were responsible as well for not contacting Duncan when he got out of prison, and that they were using him as a scapegoat to not face their own problems. Heather than orders Izzy to kick Chris again and he is presumably kicked out of the hospital.
He makes a final appearance in the epilogue, setting up the next volume. He searches around Camp Wawanakwa to try and find Ezekiel, before falling onto his knees and shouting out for him.
Trivia[]
- In the original works of Izzy’s backstory, Chris was shown to have sexually harassed Lindsay, however, this later gets retconned by the creator, Wyatt, who changed it to being a random producer.
