Spike: No...

Clarity: ‘That’s right Spike. I’m not going anywhere.’

~ Clarity's known last words in the story.

Clarity, claiming herself as Spike, is the main overarching antagonist of the My Little Pony fanfic I'm Your Soon Too written by SyntheticSoul. She is a manifestation of Spike's innermost thoughts and feelings, and is the embodiment of his fear and self-loathing. She appears constantly throughout the story, tormenting and mocking Spike in an attempt to keep him from embracing his true identity and to keep him from finding true happiness.

Personality[]

Clarity is often presented as a sadistic and manipulative character, often filling Spike's head with negative thoughts and feelings, making him question his sense of belonging in Ponyville and consider leaving the town entirely. Her machinations are so powerful that Spike often starts to doubt himself, feeling immense guilt and shame, and questioning his every decision. Clarity's manipulative nature is further demonstrated in her ability to make Spike feel inadequate and powerless in the face of her own superiority.

Biography (under construction)[]

Chapter 6[]

Clarity was created when Spike started having negative thoughts regarding Twilight's newborn child, Skylight. She states that they don't care about him anymore. After Spike asks who they are, they reveal themselves as his thoughts. She then tries to convince Spike to stop being Twilight's assistant, to which the latter disagrees.

Chapter 7[]

The next day, Spike wakes up early and greets Twilight, and Clarity comments that she would've cared if she noticed him not sleeping in. She also comments that she would realize that Spike wouldn't be able to finish his chores in the given amount of time. Later, Twilight recieves a diplomatic act as a princess. Clarity insists that Spike demands to go to the empire, but he didn't, as he had to take care of Skylight, to which Clarity comments that he's worthless.

Chapter 8[]

Spike, alone, is tasked to take care of Skylight. Clarity is unamused, and jokes about Spike being a "nurse maid". Clarity also implies that ever since the "little brat showed up", Twilight has started caring about him less.

Chapter 9[]

Spike recieves a letter from the princess regarding Tirek's capture. Clarity then puts Spike in a dilemma, seeing if he takes the letter to Twilight, he'll get in trouble for leaving Skylight alone, and if he stays there, he'll get in trouble for not giving Twilight the information sooner.

Chapter 10[]

Again, Spike is tasked with taking care of Skylight, accidentally breaking a door in the process, to which Clarity comments that he's gotta fix it. Applejack comes by asking Spike for a favor (which is having to warn Ponyville about Tirek), much to Clarity's unamusement. After a whole ordeal, Clarity comments:

‘It seems like your entire life is just one big screw over. You are once again powerless to save anypony. But perhaps Twilight will be able to save you lot.’

Chapter 11[]

While the Mane 6 were having a falling-out with Discord, Clarity piped up again.

‘Hmm….it seems nopony cares that you too, where drained of their magic. You’re a baby too, and yet the only reason they are outraged is because the baby was wronged. Your suffering doesn’t mean anything to them.’

Which annoyed Spike. Clarity also commented that Spike is not worth it. Twilight appears, demanding Tirek to set her son and her friends free, discluding Spike. Clarity makes theings worse for him.

‘Hehe, it’s like you’re invisible. Like a ghost, dead to all those around you.'

To make matters worse, The rest had left Spike there, and Clarity comments that they don't care about him anymore, and sparks the idea that Spike NEEDS to run away, which is when the latter finally caves in.

Chapter 12[]

After returning to Ponyville, Spike could only see the remains of the library. Clarity comments:

‘It appears you truly have nothing now.’

Spike tried to shut her up by punching himself, but it didn't work.

‘Ha ha ha! Did you think that would shut me up? Fool, everything you try to do to me, only hurts yourself.’

Spike rubbed the side of his head with his palm. Clarity was right. Spike hadn’t realized it until now, but he really hated Clarity. It was like having a bully, who you couldn’t stand up to, who follows you everywhere you go. And worst of all, everything he says, Spike knows is true, which cuts even deeper. There was nothing Spike could do to stop him. He was helpless. Spike then runs into Owlicious, to which Clarity comments that Twilight probably likes him more than Spike, much to his anger.

Spike decides to go to the Everfree forest, and Clarity replies that she didn't know that Spike had some sort of death wish. Spike still goes in.

Chapter 13[]

Clarity questions Spike on why they are going to the Everfree.

Their conversation[]

“I do,” said Spike as he trudged through the dark forest. “I plan to cut right though the forest, and come out the other side. There should be another city somewhere in that direction. Besides, the Everfree is the last place she’d look for me.”

‘Isn’t this the first place she looked the last time you ran off?’

“Exactly! Twilight wouldn’t think I’d make the same mistake twice! By doing that, I’m throwing her off!”

‘Doing the same thing over again, and excepting a different result…isn’t that the definition of insanity?’
