The Combine are the main antagonistic faction of the comedy Half-Life 2 prequel mod Dayhard. They are a parody of the alien empire of the same name from the main Half-Life franchise.
Overview[]
The Combine are depicted differently than their Half-Life 2 counterparts. Rather than being depicted as terror inducing multidimensional conquerors, the Combine in Dayhard are portrayed in a comedic light such as being shown to enjoy past times such as drinking in bars and dancing in nightclubs. Despite this though, they are still ruthless and will murder any citizen that stands in their way.
The Combine are seemingly commanded by The Englishman, who works under Wallace Breen/The Boss.
History[]
During a news conference hosted by President of the United States George W Bush, Wallace Breen, the Englishman and their Combine army (consisting of Metrocops) ambush the event and attack the crowds watching. The Englishman then finishes President Bush off with a shot to the chest, which allows the Combine control over the planet.
The Combine are in control of an unnamed city which houses Morgan Freeman, the brother of the Black Mesa scientist Gordon Freeman. The Combine ambush Morgan's apartment block and begin attacking the occupants, although Morgan manages to fight his way past the Combine and out into the streets. There he groups with local priest Father Grigori, who assists him in his quest to survive the Combine's incursion.
Morgan manages to reach the airport where he comes across two Combine loyalists The Ugly and The Bad, whom he witnessed killing a citizen earlier that day. With the help of Father Grigori (revealed to be "The Good") The Bad is killed, and Morgan manages to kill The Ugly. After Morgan reunites with his friend Jack they steal a Combine Gunship and head for the countryside towards the Combine's headquarters.
After crashing in a field, they infiltrate a castle which acts as the Combine's main fortress. This also acts as Wallace Breen's base of operations. Morgan and Jack use Metrocop uniforms to blend in, and plan to gain access to Breen's secret quarters. They manage to get the door open, and end up being ambushed by The Englishman although manage to kill him.
Morgan gains access to Breen's office and takes an elevator into catacombs underneath the castle. After wiping out a brainwashed robotic Dog, Morgan makes his way through the catacombs fighting Breen's army. Morgan manages to catch up with Breen and after enduring a boss battle manages to (seemingly) assassinate him with an RPG. Morgan, Jack and their friends celebrate in Breen's jacuzzi, having apparently dealt with the Combine threat.
