~ Redd after Tom Nook warns the villagers about him. |
Crazy Redd is the titular main antagonist of the Stupendium song Rogue's Gallery. He is a sleazy con man who tries to sell who is presumed to be the mayor of the village his forgeries of paintings and statues for a profit. He is the archenemy of Blathers and Tom Nook, although for entire different reasons.
He is voiced by Greg Holgate, better known as the Stupendium, who also voices Tom Nook in their other videos.
Personality[]
Crazy Redd makes his personality mostly clear from the moment he shows up. He seems to be a sleazy con man just looking out for himself and is willing to rip off anyone for a good bargain. He will forge any painting and sell it as the original product, even admitting that there is a chance that some of his paintings are faked.
However, as the song continues, it becomes clear that Redd is deranged and that there is more to meets the eye with him. He starts making threats as time goes on, not really caring if the mayor thinks of him differently because he is the mayor's only good way of getting paintings. However, this culminates in him revealing the bodies of some animals who tried to call him out for his misdeeds, proving that he can be cruel and ruthless if need be.
Biography[]
These Hallowed Wings[]
Redd makes a cameo in a wanted poster on Blathers' desk.
Rogue's Gallery[]
Redd immediately introduces himself by claiming that while he doesn't seem to appear so, he was actually an art school student for a while, before getting kicked out for stealing 8 crates of acrylic from them. He then offers to sell the mayor of some of his paintings to add to his gallery, warning him that they might be forged. Redd quickly brushes this off, saying it is only for the sake of good business and since he is the only person with as many paintings with as much variety as him, Redd is his only option. He offers to sell him paintings from almost any era, claiming that even if there is a possibility of forgery, chances are that they are real, before offering to sell the mayor a statue. He reveals his reasons for this soon after though, claiming that if he doesn't sell some of them, his boat will break down.
Redd promises that the mayor will be happy with anything he purchases, even if he is not allowed to return it. He then puts down Tom Nook's efforts at selling his own, genuine art pieces, claiming that he will always have better bargains and he can make more money by advertising and selling his art. He then reveals that when he can't sell his paintings or statues, he simply dumps them in the water, since chances are that they were just his forgeries. However, when he hears that Blathers is coming around town, he quickly makes an exit, since Blathers can tell his paintings are forgeries, with him responding with a dull "that hurts" when Blathers insults him. He repeats his mantra again shortly after, but this time, in a much darker tone, implying that the run-in with Blathers was not ideal.
Redd contradicts some of his earlier statements shortly after by claiming that his art was simply paying homage to other artists, not actively forging them, before claiming that he isn't a felon and is only "a little at large". He then reveals that he doesn't just copy the paintings, but actually steals them from where they come from and destroys them after making his copies, although he sometimes sells them by accident, which he brushes off as making the residents the criminals. Redd then reveals that he hates being called out as a fraud and will not hesitate to silence those against him by displaying the bodies of those who he has killed. He ends off his little song by trying to convince the mayor to buy something, claiming that if you need a painting, Crazy Redd's the one to go to.
Shortly after, Tom Nook sends out an announcement not to talk to Redd since he is dangerous. Before Redd makes his escape, he quickly lets the mayor know that he will send the statue he ordered, before jokingly asking how big his mailbox is.
