Cthulhu is one of the antagonists of The Owl House fanfic The Gods Awaken.
He serves as the Great Priest of the vile Great Old Ones and breaks out of his deep sleeping to take back the world.
Personality[]
Unlike most incarnations of the Dreaded Dreamer, this version of Cthulhu takes a vast interest in humanity and seemingly enjoys terrorizing and killing them judging by how his tentacles would vibrate every time a low below erupted from the lowest regions of his body. So unlike the case with how most eldritch gods in the Cthulhu Mythos tend to be beyond human comprehension or have their own moral standards (with the exception of Nyarlathotep), Cthulhu is fully aware of how horrific his actions are, but treats them like a game of cat-and-mouse.
History[]
Prehistory[]
Millions of years before man crawled out of the primordial waste, Cthulhu reigned over the Earth with the rest of his kin from his city of R'lyeh. It remained this way until he engaged in a war that led to his city sank beneath the waves. If the stars were ever aligned, then R'lyeh would arise from its watery grave and Cthulhu would be awakened.
The Gods Awaken[]
Cthulhu was one of the many gods that were awoken by the Harbinger Ghroth when it sang its siren song "The Music of the Spheres." When a group of fishermen were out on the sea, they were attacked by the Great Old One who then launched an attack on the surface world.
When Cthulhu awoke, it invoked waves of madness and unrest from people recovering from their nightmares. During all the catastrophe, Cthulhu appeared before an army and took an interest in them. Despite the commander's insistence to keep firing, one of the soldiers believed Cthulhu to be a harmless, if unwittingly destructive, being, and went to demonstrate it. Unfortunately for him, Cthulhu grabs him with his feelers and snaps his neck. The army resumes their firing, but Cthulhu's body merely absorbed the bullets and a black, alien ooze grew over the wounds.
Whilst combating the armies, Cthulhu summons the Starspawn of Cthulhu (alien beings that resemble small replicas of him) to attack civilians much to his delight.
Abilities[]
- Regeneration: Cthulhu can repair his body if he were to have been wounded as shown when he takes a huge brunt of the shots being fired at him.
- Telepathy: Even when he was dreaming, Cthulhu was able to communicate with humans to instill nightmares of the upcoming apocalypse within them.
- Madness inducement: Upon awakening, Cthulhu causes a string of madness to befall humans around the world. However, it doesn't appear that merely glancing at him invokes madness implying that Cthulhu can turn it off.
- Reality warping: Cthulhu, much like Nyarlathotep, can rip open portals in the fabrics of reality. He does this to bring forth the Cthulhi.
