Mugman: You know what they say. Who wants to serve in Heaven...
Cuphead: When you can rule... in Hell?
~ Cuphead and Mugman after releasing the Devil - their most infamous quote.

Cuphead and Mugman are the titular main antagonists of the Secret History episode, Secret History of Cuphead.

They were once former soldiers who became trapped in another dimension, mutating into cup and mug-like humanoids. Now, they are the servants of the Devil who intend to have him come to Earth to feast on billions of souls, planning on taking over the world.

Cuphead was voiced by Blake Swift, who also voiced Mario in the same series and Luigi in Mario and Luigi: Super Anime Brothers, while Mugman was voiced RicanFly who also voiced Wario in Dial L For Luigi and Mario in Goombageddon: Mario Bros.

Biography[]

Before they were both known as Cuphead and Mugman, Head and Mugomanowicz were soldiers in the US army who were both stationed in a secret base located underneath the Nevada desert, immediately after their training. Scientists in the base would test portals to other worlds, sending test subjects in for results repeatedly, always resulting in their deaths.

One night, after getting into a fight with each other, Mugmanowicz and Head pulled themselves into one of the active portals in the lab. Decades later, the two soldiers returned from another dimension but with their appearances changed, now with Head resembling a cup and Mugomanowicz resembling a mug. Soon after they returned, they were taken in by the government and interviewed, while creatures from the other dimension came through and killed seemingly dozens of soldiers. They claimed the portal had changed them, claiming that in the other dimension, they just hung out at first, later, they would go gambling at the Devil's casino and rolled snake eyes with a bet with the Devil himself. Before the Devil could take their souls, Cuphead and Mugman made a deal with him to collect all of the souls that were owed to him. After the Devil agreed, Cuphead and Mugman collected all of the souls within the next twenty-four hours.

Immediately afterward, the general of the army ordered Cuphead and Mugman to shut the portal down as more soldiers were dying. Cuphead and Mugman would go onto defeat the creatures invading the base, but when they were ordered to shut the portal down again, they both killed the general and the remaining soldiers. Mugman would then kill the scientist, Jerry, claiming "he was the only person who could undo what happens next".

Immediately afterward, they would expand the portal to the other dimension, allowing the Devil to begin to enter, revealing to the detective who had interviewed them that he was their boss, and that he saw something "special" in them, considering hundreds of test subjects had entered the dimension before and yet, they were the only two to survive. They would then reveal their true intentions, planning on setting the Devil lose onto the world and allowing him to devour the souls of billions, planning on ruling the Earth "in Hell." Immediately afterward, the Devil would enter through the portal, beginning his rampage.

Trivia[]

  • The video most likely takes heavy inspiration from the bad ending to Cuphead, where both Cuphead and Mugman had over their contracts to the Devil and become his demonic servants.
  • Unlike their original counterparts, Cuphead and Mugman don't appear to be siblings.
