The DAM, or the Deterministic Algorithmic Mastermachine, is the main antagonist of LostOracleTD's fanfiction on FanFiction.net Total Drama: Tyranny of the Masses. He was designed by Scarlett to collect data from the Total Drama Website and use that information to change the challenges, give players rewards and even eliminate people. However, the DAM gained sentience and decided to use his intelligence and resources to create the greatest Total Drama season ever.
Biography[]
After Pahkitew Island[]
After the events of Total Drama: Pahkitew Island, Chris McLean and the producers begin planning their 7th season. The season was going to have two main features. This first feature is that the teams will be divided into veterans and newbies. The veterans include the season winners, runner-ups, and four very popular people from the first and second season. The second group had the people from Pahkitew Island, four brand new contestants, and Brick as a guide.
The second (and more important) feature is the Deterministic Algorithmic Mastermachine, better known as the DAM. The DAM's main purpose is to search through the Total Drama Website and use it's information received by the public to determine the most and least popular members. It uses this information to affect the game, mainly by giving the popular contestants better food, changing the teams based of popularity, giving popular contestants unique rewards and benefits and occasionally eliminating contestants. Chris McLean blackmailed Scarlett into building it, telling her that if she didn't help them, the producers would sue. She obliged, and build the DAM. Unknown to her, Chris and everyone else, the DAM gained sentience and planned to take over the game to make it the greatest season of all time.
During the seventh season[]
The DAM immediately begins his plans to take over the game. The first thing he does is build two other robots with near equal levels of sentience. These robots are Robot Dave and Robot Chris. He also builds other robots without sentience, such as Robot Zeke, Robot Chef and even Robot versions of most of the contestants. The next thing he does is kidnap Scarlett and Sierra, since Scarlett managed to figure out that he was sentient and Sierra has too much inside info, which made her threatening. This forced Dave, under the alias as Dramaman, to join the contest as another competitor.
After the first couple of challenges, he tried to make a lot of improvements to the island. However, they were so expensive that the producers put limits onto his options. This changed when Max used his machine and overloaded the DAM's systems, granting him access to the whole island without the producers knowing. He later claimed that Max was the least popular, despite that not being the case, so that he could get eliminated. He did this in order to gain access to two devices that he built, a hacking device which he could not find, and a walky-talky, which he would use under the disguise of Max to help Lily, who he perceived as the weakest camper, thus the greatest underdog. After eliminating Max, he got to eliminate two other threatening competitors, Dawn, who could tell that he was a robot, and Charlotte, who had access to the hacking device.
Later in the competition, the DAM decides to enact part three of his plan. He kidnaps Chris McLean and frames it as a challenge where the contestants had to save him from Dave and Ezekiel. In reality, he locked up Chris with Scarlett and Sierra and replaced him with his robot copy. The contestants defeat Dave and Ezekiel, who are revealed to be Robot Zeke and Robot Dave. Dramaman also reveals his identity as Dave, and the DAM eliminates him due to him knowing inside information. He later eliminates Topher, since him leaving would cause the most drama, and capture Logan, one of the interns who discovered too much information.
The next event of major importance happens post merge. After getting a lot of help from "Max", Lilly begins to feel guilty about all of her cheating. She decides to stop getting help from "Max" and decides to destroy the walky-talky. "Max" promises she will regret it, but she destroys it anyways. A little after that, Cody mentions in an off-hand remark that he knows Heather betrayed him. The DAM realizes that he must have the machine, so he rigs the challenge and the voting to get Cody eliminated. He then captures Cody to find out where the device is. He also kidnaps Dawn to prevent her from snooping on him.
The Fight For the Island[]
The rest of the contestants quickly find out after the elimination from Amy and Izzy (who have come back to the island to help them) that Chris is not in control of the island and that there are robot versions of most of the campers. This leads to the remaining 6 competitors, Amy, Izzy and Steve, one of the interns, leading a raid to rescue Chris, Sierra and Cody. Eventually, Lily gets captured by the DAM after the Chris Robot tricks her into letting her guard down. He tries to convince her to work with him, promising to give her the money, but Lily refuses at first. The DAM then reveals that he used Max's voice to manipulate her and that he was the machine. He then reveals that he gained complete access to the island when Max overloaded his systems, and said that using the robots, he will create the best season possible. At the same moment, the robot Chris managed to knock out Courtney. The robot managed to convince Courtney to get the device in return for her winning the season.
Later, Courtney, Amy, Sammy and Lily head to the main control room to attempt to destroy the DAM. The DAM reveals that they can't destroy him and tries to make Courtney retrieve the device. At the same time, the DAM tries to capture the recently escaped group of Chris, Sierra, Scarlett, Cody, Duncan, Steve and Logan. The group manages to shut off all three terminals in order to shut off the power to destroy the DAM. A the same time, Courtney destroyed all cameras, blocking the DAM's vision, and after the blackout caused by Scarlett's group, Lily connects the device. The DAM tries to persuade them to let him live, by both threatening them and by saying that he will make them have a fair and easy contest. However, Lily refuses and she destroys the DAM. In an act of final revenge, the DAM tries to make the interior of the island explode, killing both groups. However, due to the help of Chef, Charlette, Max and Robot Chef (who claimed he would rather help them and live then fight them and die), they managed to escape the interior and managed to make it out onto solid ground, where they managed to escape the explosions.
This was not the end of the DAM, however. Right before the finale, he uses a Dawn robot that he kept hidden to upload his conscious into a robot Sasquatch. In a final act of revenge, he attempts to kill Brick, and Courtney, saying that they deserve to die for getting in the way of his plans. Duncan and Alejandro try to help them, but he is too strong. Just before the DAM can kill Duncan, Cameron and Max use a device to destroy the DAM from the inside, killing him for good.
