Dagon is a supporting antagonist of the Lightning SMP.

Serving as a flashback antagonist of the Taiga Arc and a major antagonist of the Liberal Arc, specifically as the main antagonist of the Liberal Arc chapter "What Lies Beneath the Waves".

Dagon is an ancient spirit that inhabits the deep regions of the oceans. He is a loyal follower and friend towards Horus, acting as his third-in-command.

Appearance[]

Not much is known about Dagon's appearance, due to the fact he rarely shows up. However, a brief glimpse of him was shown in "Into the Dune" when Horus tortured Aikkop. Dagon's silhouette shows up in a flashback as a tall reptile-like creature with a leaf-like scaly formation across his head and his back, and large serrated teeth. In "Bargaining Peace", Dagon's scales briefly passed by the camera underwater when the narrator said that big things await the SMP, it is revealed that Dagon's skin is a mixture of deep blue and myrtle green.

Personality[]

Dagon is described by the series creator as a highly calculative and intimidating individual, he is also mentioned to be a taciturn individual, barely speaking at all except to those he truly trusts. Out of all the members of the Spirits of Hormlash, Dagon is the most animalistic of them; this being that he hunts like a predator and sadistically toys with his prey before ending their fate. He is a devoted follower and great friend towards Horus, he joined the Spirits of Hormlash out of loyalty towards his friend.

Biography[]

The Beginning[]

At some point in the past, Dagon became a feared and destructive spirit that caused numerous tsunamis and floods to occur across the Overworld. Horus later met Dagon and the two became close friends, Horus proposed the idea of changing the three dimensions to Dagon, in which the latter agreed. Dagon later became a loyal follower towards Horus and assisted in destroying the dark god’s enemies.

During the Great Deity Genocide, Dagon actively participated and lead an army of spirits to hunt down and kill deities who were hiding from Horus. Despite being a spirit, Dagon was confirmed to have went one-on-one with a lesser ocean deity.

When Horus was defeated by Lothius, Dagon went into hiding in order to avoid being targeted. Dagon then found Horus, now as a spirit, and allied with several other spirits to continue Horus’ crusade.

Events of the Lightning SMP[]

Taiga Arc[]

Dagon first made an appearance in a flashback in "Into the Dune", when Horus tortured Aikkop, he showed her flashbacks of fire and chaos. Dagon's silhouette appears with the bottom half obscured by fire.

Liberal Arc[]

Dagon is properly introduced in "What Lies Beneath the Waves", serving as the chapter’s main antagonist. The chapter starts with a pair of trading vessels returning from Stonehattan to Athena Kingdom, when a storm suddenly brewed and hindered their voyage. One of the crew members looked off into the distance and saw large leaf-like scales briefly surface before diving down, a bright flash from a lightning reveals a massive shadow heading towards the other vessel. The crew member tries to signal the other ship of this unidentified object but is too late as a large claw emerges out of the waters and tears through the ship’s hull, the crew from both ships scream in terror before the scene cuts away.

After the news of the attacked trading vessels reached Athena’s castle, Distortion annoyed Aikkop so much in order to get permission to test his new experiment in the ocean, Aikkop asked Zillius to "babysit" Distortion while on his trip, in which he begrudgingly agreed. Zillius and Distortion set sail across the Grey Sea, joined by a few fishermen who were willing to have their ship be used to conduct the experiment. During their stormy voyage, Distortion revealed his experiment: a large metallic orb with speakers and insulated wires called the "Abyssal Detection Orb" or "A.D.O." for short, which is connected to a chain and then dropped into the stormy sea. The scientist explains that the orb is designed to emit sound pulses that can map out the sea and detect objects underwater, any data and information obtained by the orb is wirelessly transmitted to a small rectangular device with a screen called the "A.D.O. Receiver" that he is holding.

After waiting for sometime in the open sea, Distortion picks up a large ping from the A.D.O. Receiver, he exclaims as some of the fishermen flock around him in awe of his invention, Zillius looks overboard into the abyss and sees a pair of ghoulish yellow eyes staring back at him,

He later reappears in "Bargaining Peace", as the camera shows the inside of an underwater trench, the narrator later says that big things await the SMP, before Dagon's leaf-like scales swam by the camera.

Trivia[]

  • The series creators have confirmed that Dagon will have a major role in the future.
  • As stated by the series creator, Dagon has killed thousands and tortured those who oppose Horus. The series creator also said that Dagon can cause devastating floods.
  • While spirits are usually inferior towards deities in terms of raw power, the series creator has said Dagon once fought a deity and presumably killed said deity during the Great Deity Genocide.
