The Dark Council are supporting antagonists in the 2017 film Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: Knights and the Darkness Part II and minor characters in the 2021 series Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic III: Shadow of the Sith.
They were a council of twelve Sith Lords that ran Vitiate's Sith Empire, and took orders only from the Emperor himself. Some of them attempted a conspiracy to overthrow Vitiate, led by Darth Nyriss.
Biography[]
Creation[]
The Sith Lord only known as Vitiate rose to power, becoming immortal and extremally powerful in the Dark Side of the Force. After the defeat of Naga Sadow and the Sith Empire during the Great Hyperspace War, Vitiate, who hid his name, declared himself Sith Emperor of a new Sith Empire forged out of the ashes of the old. The Sith Emperor created the Dark Council, to run the Sith Empire, taking orders from no one but himself, while he hid himself away from the public. After years of wandering around space, the Emperor and his followers discovered Dromund Kaas, an ancient world once home to the ancestors of the Sith species. There, the Emperor and his followers built a city there, and waited in the shadows for a thousand years, waiting for their time to strike.
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic: Knights and Darkness part II[]
Years before the events of the film, some members of the Dark Council discovered that the Emperor is a genocidal maniac who intends to drain the Force from the galaxy to make himself immortal. Two of the leading council members were Darths Nyriss and Xedrix, who were arch rivals of each other. Nyriss, in order to keep the involvement of the Dark Council against the Emperor, and in order to get rid of her rival, Nyriss framed Xedrix as the only member to rebel against the Emperor. This caused Lord Scourge, a Sith Lord who served Nyriss, to kill Xedrix, and making the Emperor think the rebellion of Sith against him was over.
The film starts three years later, when Darth Nyriss captured the Jedi Revan, holding him hostage. A Jedi named Meetra Surik arrived on Dromund Kaas.
