Patton Parnel, a.k.a. Dark Web, is the titular main protagonist of the 2020 supervillain horror-comedy film of the same name and the main antagonist of the 2023 superhero action-comedy film Ghost Widow, which are both horror parallels of the Marvel superhero Spider-Man. He is the evil counterpart of Spider-Man and the former best-friend turned arch-enemy of the film's heroic antagonist Kenny Ryder a.k.a. Ghost Widow.
Unlike the heroic Spider-Man, Dark Web hates the world for what he's been put through and desires to rule it while bringing revenge on those who tormented him or others like him. When he gets his powers, he chooses to become a supervillain and bring about conquering the world without corruption but also sadly without superheroes. However, his plans will be intervened by that world's number 1 true hero Ghost Widow and their fight will be legendary.
He is played by Asa Butterfield in the first film and by Joe Keery in the second film.
Dark Web[]
When he first appears, he is still a bullied outcast but unlike Peter Parker: Patton Parnel's parents were Hydra agents, his uncle and aunt are abusive, the students hate him out of jealousy, and his own teachers don't help him. Even worse, the main bully Dash Johnson suicide baited him once. However, his only friends were the popular kids Kenny Ryder and Mara Jones, who hated the bullies and saw Patton like a little brother to him.
Suddenly, things changed when his toxic crush Sara Jade approached him and tricked him into coming with her to visit a lab just so she can have power. He was hesitant but agreed to it.
In the lab, they found some illegal experiments and she had him take pictures of this as he also got fascinated by the spiders but she then tried to forcefully kiss him until security came. However, she decided to abandon him to take the fall but he managed to escape. He then looked at a cool symbol and complimented on it but then felt something on his hand and got shocked to see a spider, which bit him and he reacted by throwing it to the floor in pain before walking away but was unaware of this destined encounter.
On the way home, he starts getting sick and even hit by a random vehicle but when the driver Tyler Sampson came out to rob him instead of helping, Patton accidentally kills him by pushing him towards a brick wall before continuing to go home.
At home, he was told by his uncle and aunt that he was late but he bravely pointed out for what and the uncle decided it was a good point since he was drunk and decided to lay down on the chair. Sighing in relief, Patton decided to deal with the garbage.
Outside, he is annoyed at hearing Sara argue with her parents but angrily ignores it due to what she did to him earlier. However, she does notice him and pretends to apologize but he just angrily calls her out for what she did to him and told her to stay out of his life before he then goes back inside, much to her frustration.
Before going to his room, he sees his cousin Terra looking upset. He then goes in there and comforts her before wishing her a good night and putting her to sleep as he also goes to sleep but then starts to feel sick from the spider bite and starts having nightmares of the upcoming events that will happen.
In the morning, he then put his glasses on but is shocked to find that he can see without them and is also shocked that he's buffed right now, even admiring it.
However, he heard screaming and went downstairs to find Terra being belt-whipped by his uncle Tex. When he tried to intervene, he was told to stay out of this but he surprisingly knocks him out with one quick punch and comforts Terra over it while being angry at his uncle only to calm down and now gets surprised to hear that the robber from last night is dead from that throw to the wall, although he doesn't seem to show any reaction to his first kill but it's still considered an accident.
At school, he received glares at school but rolled his eyes because he could tell that Sara did something. He then met Kenny and Mara, who inform him that Sara is spreading false rumors about him stalking her and forcing himself on her. He just rolled his eyes in annoyance at this and wonders when she will ever stop.
In class, the only decent teacher Mr. Warden congratulates Patton on passing the class and gives Dash a failing grade. However, Patton suddenly senses Dash about to throw a football and surprisingly dodges it by dropping his pencil and picking it up as the teacher got hit by it and angrily scolds Dash, who went scared. However, Patton was amazed at what's happening to him.
At lunch, Patton was eating with Kenny but then sensed Mara slipping on a greased floor and suddenly caught her in time, much to both of their shocks. However, he also caught her tray in time and helped her get her lunch. After talking for a bit, they then sat down but then Patton notices his fork is stuck to his hand and takes it off only to shoot a web from his wrist, which Kenny and Mara noticed and also looked surprised. As he tried to yank it, he noticed something coming and pulled the other 2 down as the tray hit Dash, covering him in food. As Kenny and Mara try their best not to laugh, they get worried when they see Patton quickly leave the lunch room but got more worried when they see Dash following him and they decided to try and intervene.
At the lockers, Patton tries to get his stuff from it and leave the school but his sense warns him that Dash is already near and this helps him dodge a punch from the bully. Despite Patton trying to talk things out, they still ended up fighting but Patton is good at dodging until he grabbed Dash's arm and punched him into a pile trash. However, he's horrified that he broke the guy's arm and runs away as Kenny and Mara try to call for him.
In an alleyway, he was horrified by what he did to the bully but then notices something happening to his fingers and then finds that he can climb the wall. After finding this out, he excitedly starts having fun and jumping across rooftops before then testing out his web powers and swinging. After being done, he took a liking to his powers and just sat on the roof with an excited smile on his face at the rush he had gotten.
At night, he returned home and was relieved that uncle and aunt weren't home while being happy that his friends brought Terra home. As she greeted him, she assured him that witnesses are testifying on his behalf.
However, he's still getting scared of what's happening to him and wondered what that spider bite did to him to make him so strong and violent like that.
Suddenly, his aunt Paige storms into his bedroom and angrily yells at him for breaking the bully's arm but Patton suddenly doesn't even care and even claims that he doesn't see it as his problem.
Angered by this, she tries to slap him but he then grabs her arm and painfully squeezes it before throwing her towards the wall, which she is left getting scared of him.
As he walks towards her, she starts begging for undeserved mercy and pretends to love him but he isn't fooled and lets her know about how most insect kill their mothers after hatching, which he then webs her up and kills her.
However, Tex hears all of this and goes upstairs but then gets horrified to find what Patton is doing and tries to escape only for Patton to trip him with web and drag him back into the room before slamming to door shut, where only his screams will be heard.
The next morning, Patton wakes up as if nothing ever happened and doesn't even know why his uncle and aunt aren't here, which their bodies seem to be missing from his room.
After getting ready for the day, he sees Terra innocently eating breakfast and waving at him but also confused at why her parents aren't here, which Patton can't answer her.
At school, the students now fear him because of what happened to Dash and he is upset at the fear but then starts to like it as they even back off of bullying other students, who see Patton as their hero for causing the bullies to back off.
However, Patton starts getting tired in class and nearly sleeping but when he wakes up from the teacher's shouting, his face is covered with bloody mucus, making his classmate Wendy Stacen concerned and asking for permission to take him to the nurse.
In the nurse's office, Patton thanks Wendy and she kindly lets him that he's welcome but wants to sadly distance herself from him out of concern that the bullies will target him even more now, which he understood and didn't hold any ill-will.
However, he did meet her boyfriend Henry Osnick and the guy was also nice to him too to the point that they were starting to become friends as well, even though Henry acts like a rival.
After recovering, he then saw a wrestling poster and got interested in it just to test his skills along with having some fun when fighting his opponent.
At the wrestling ring, he wears a wrestling outfit to represent his powers and starts fighting his opponent Bone Jaw but ends up accidentally killing him at the end of their fight, causing the poor kid to run away in fear.
However, his abusive Coach Lester kidnaps him with blackmail and forces him to run around a track as punishment for faking his way into wrestling, which he also then has him take a shower.
While he's showering, the coach invites a man named Doug Kendall and takes out jump rope, which it's obvious that he's going to abuse and rape Patton.
However, Patton's powers activate again and seems to have a mind of its own, deciding to protect its vessel from the abusive coach via hitting the coach with all sports equipment, dragging him to the shower room, tying him to the faucets, stripping him naked, whipping him with a towel, and then finally killing him by clawing his back, ignoring his pathetic pleas for undeserved mercy.
After that happened, Patton looks on in shock at this but then notices Doug arriving and starts recognizing him an abusive babysitter that had done the crime to him during childhood, which Doug notices too and tries to escape after realizing that he might be next due to what he did in the past.
However, the exit's jammed and Patton's spider-side manages to kill Doug via grabbing him in a choke hold, pinning him to door, killing him in the chest, and then strangling him until he coughs up blood and dies.
After doing this, Patton still breaks down in horror and despair at having killed them while even screaming in horror at this and wanting to know why this is happening to him but almost hears his late mother's voice comforting him and assuring him that it's going to be okay only for the police to arrive due to hearing the screams and finding a naked Patton crying on the floor while holding his legs, which they mistake him as a survivor and comfort him before putting some clothes on him and taking him back home.
However, they accidentally take him to Sara's home and she takes advantage of his current mental state to trick the officers into giving him to her, despite them being suspicious of this.
Once they were gone, she talks with her friends and they all take turns raping the poor boy when he's in his current state, even slapping him when he tries begging them to stop.
Even worse, they invite Dash and the jocks to cruelly record this, all of them taking sadistic enjoyment in this unforgivable act and showing their true natures as cruel and irredeemable monsters that are willing to do even the cruelest things they've ever done just to mentally break Patton and make him miserable.
After they were done, they then fall asleep and he takes this chance to escape.
Upon reaching his house, Terra notices him and gets worried for him but when he tells her everything, she is horrified by this and comforts him while angrily cursing those monsters.
The next morning, he is still traumatized by what happened last night but still hears his mother's voice trying to comfort him, despite that he knows his parents were bad people.
At school, he looks on as the other students and teachers watch the police announcing the gym to be closed due to the deaths of the coach and that pedophile but Patton is now a social pariah due to the bullies revealing the gang rape online and making him be seen as a male prostitute that wanted it, much to his anger and disgust.
However, he is heartbroken to find that even Kenny and Mara are believing in the rumors and even scolding him for letting her do that, which is due to the latter crushing on him and thinking that he didn't love her.
When claiming that he thought they were friends, they still refuse to hear him out and this enrages him into getting into an argument with them until they accidentally go too far by calling him the s-word and blaming him for the reason why Sara cheated on him, which made even their classmates gasp at them in shock.
Realizing what they said, they feel remorse for it and try to apologize to him but he angrily calls them out for how they just turned against him like that and angrily disowns them as friends before running away, much to their guilt.
However, Henry and Wendy were sympathetic towards Patton and angrily call his friends out for their lack of care and sympathy for their childhood friend, leaving them even more remorseful.
Outside the school, Patton hugs his knees in tears at how he's being treated but Dash and the jocks make it worse by beating him up and locking him in the dumpster.
At night, the same spider that bit him unlocks the dumpster and helps him out but he wants the spider to let him die and believes himself to have no purpose in life, which the spider only feels sympathy for him.
However, Patton takes notice of the other spiders being as sad as him and finds that he can control them but instead of being freaked out, he takes a liking to these powers and decides to inform them of what he's been through.
Enraged at what their only human friend has been through, they agree on getting revenge on those that have wronged him but before that, he kindly names the spider "Webby" and his new friend likes the name.
Nonetheless, the spiders also start helping him unlock more powers and comfort him during any pain but he actually feels great and is enjoying the boost in power.
At a cornfield, the jocks were drinking there and even peeing on some of the ground but one of them Rudy notices Patton in the field and they spend more time insulting him instead of wondering why he's there.
However, he wasn't scared of them but instead mocks them for drinking in the cornfield by jokingly accusing them of compensating for how they couldn't please their girlfriends in an orgy.
Offended and enraged by this, they proceed to angrily beat him for his remarks but thanks to his powers, he doesn't even feel hurt by the beatings and is just merely annoyed until Rudy messes up by smashing a bottle on him and only angering him.
Having enough fun, he kills them one by one: Rudy gets his jaw broken and ends up eaten alive by the bugs, Bong gets his intestines ripped out and decapitated with them, Rod gets his groin and brain ripped out, and Dash gets his limbs ripped off and his skull crushed under Patton's foot.
After doing this, Patton happily thanks his new friends and has them feast on the remains before going home, which they agree with.
At home, he comforts a sleeping Terra's worries and softly advises her to go to sleep while claiming to love her and even softly brushes her face with his still clawed hand, much to his own embarrassment.
In the backyard, he goes to the toolshed and starts helping his bug friends take it over as their temporary hideout for now, even giving off an evil laugh with them as they start designing a suit for him.
The next morning, he starts accepting his newfound powers and even befriending his bugs while also continuing to ditch his old nerd look for a bad boy look, even wearing some new clothes as well.
However, he first decides to upload a secret video of his bullies bragging about harming him and even showing them actually taking advantage of his drugged state before dropping Terra off at school and walking to his school, which he just danced for fun.
At school, he noticed that everyone looked guilt-ridden instead of sneering at him but he no longer cared anymore.
In class, he still does great and no longer has to worry about Dash assaulting him, not sharing everyone's concern about this.
In the cafeteria, he ignored his former friends and sat with his new ones but then Sara Jade goes over to him and starts threatening to make his life miserable if he doesn't do what she says, which got everyone's attention.
However, he just laughs at her and even claims her to have been so moody over her rough time as this makes the students laugh and her angry but she does start questioning why no one's one her side and only his, which he pointed at the T.V. screen and she gets shocked to find her group's true natures being revealed.
Seeing why the school is angrily turning against her, she tries to claim that it's fake and accuses Patton of framing her but the principal Philip arrives and angrily asks her to come to his office, which she reluctantly does so.
Despite this, he still expresses disappointment in the school for always easily believing her and never asking for his side of the story while advising them that not all popular people are right about a lot of things and warns them that they would have to earn trust and forgiveness, which they took to heart and bowed down in shame while his true friends clap for him.
Anyways, Patton might've need his uncle and aunt to be called as well but Sara Jade's parents still sided with him due to become well aware of her true nature and also confirm that the girl has been mistreating him for no reason while also showing evidence that they found in their house thanks to Patton and with that evidence, she finally confesses to her crimes but shows no remorse for it and tries to defend herself by claiming that no one says no to her or even rejects her.
Unsurprisingly, the principal angrily expels her and her parents disown her while they will also be calling the police on her and will make sure to not forget her friends as well, much to her fear.
Sadly, this doesn't change her attitude and this makes her only desire to find fake evidence against Patton to frame him but unknown to her, this was only the beginning of his revenge on her.
At Patton's house, her and the cheerleaders broke into there and start searching for material to frame him but Sara gets horrified to see scary drawings that Patton made and when seeing scary symbols, she slowly connects the dots and realizes what's going on.
Once she does so, she warns her friends about this and tries to call Dash but gets worried to hear Patton calling her instead and after realizing that he already killed the jocks, her fears increase when hearing that he's also home now.
Outside the house, Patton was indeed standing outside of it and ended the call by crushing the late bully's phone.
Back inside the house, the cheerleaders get worried and reluctantly split up to try and escape but he starts taking them one-by-one until only Sara is left and she decides to leave one of them behind to save her own skin, unaware that the tool shed she decides to hide in is more of a hideout for him.
After she manages to get in there, she gets horrified to find other corpses in there and they are tangled up in web before she then notices Patton himself hanging upside down but this time, he's wearing a dark Spider-Man suit that him and the bugs made.
However, Sara Jade pretends to apologize for what she did to him and lies about being in love with him but is secretly planning to kill him to end this nightmare and walk away unharmed.
At first, Patton seems to fall for it and she shares a fake kiss with him for old times' sake but he suddenly grabs her wrist and reveals that he didn't fall for it before webbing her mouth and grabbing her, knocking her unconscious.
When she wakes up, she is tied to a large spider-web and is unable to move or talk but she struggles and muffles for help, she hears something and looks down to find numerous insects starting to cover her up.
As she starts struggling and muffling in fear, Patton is shown watching this in sadistic glee and satisfaction while cheerfully asking his new friends to finish her nice and slow as he gives a lecture about how the bus outnumber humans by a factor of trillions and humanity doesn't stand a chance, which Sara Jade gives out one last scream before the bugs slowly finish her off.
The next morning, police and paramedics arrive on the scene and find the dead bodies in a different area but Patton has removed all evidence against him and has gotten away with everything for now, most likely due to Sara Jade being revealed as a rapist.
The film then ends with him comforting Terra and giving a secret smirk at his victory before the end credits show him going on a killing spree in his costume and being named the "Dark Web" by the media as they also report similar villains with powers as well, already setting up a sequel hook.
Ghost Widow[]
3 years later, a now 20-year-old Patton is no longer looking like a nerd but instead seems to have attracted girls now and yet he no longer cares about that due to meeting a female villain named Dark Witch and had married her after they fell in love with each other, even gaining twin sons from this.
Speaking of which, they found other villains like them and decided to form their own villain team called the Dark Legion, which they aren't seriously at all by the fake hero team known as the Revengers but still feared by the public and taken seriously by the actual heroes, which is the Ghost Warriors.

Personality[]
Before his powers, Patton was a nice, kind-hearted, innocent, and sympathetic young man who just wanted the world to be a better place and didn't want any trouble, despite hating his abusers and bullies along with throwing insults at them.
After gaining his powers, he started off as getting worried about them and even being horrified when he broke Dash's arm during an unavoidable fight while also being shocked when he accidentally knocked his uncle out.
Despite this, he did take a liking to them upon finding out that he can climb walls and use his webs for swinging, which comes across as harmless fun and being excited about it.
However, his powers also gained a bad affect on him as he suddenly ended up killing those that he disliked and somehow brushing it off as dreams, showing that the said powers had corrupted him in the first place and are controlling him.
Sadly, he started developing a god-like complex and ended up becoming a vengeful, sadistic, dangerous, and psychotic criminal mastermind and supervillain after breaking down from the abuse and r**e he suffered along with being betrayed by his friends.
Even more, he took quite an enjoyment in killing his wrongdoers and even doing it so brutally while choosing to ignore their screams for undeserved mercy.
Despite this, he still cares about his old school friends and his adopted sister Terra while also loving his wife and treating his team with respect. He even cries at pictures of his past and feels ashamed of his crimes.
He also has standards as he doesn't target innocent families, especially children. He admits that he might be a villain and sometimes terrorist but he's not a monster.
Appearance[]
In his first appearance, he had short combed brown hair with glasses but still looked like an innocent young man, which he later ditched the glasses after getting bit.
In his 2nd appearance, he ended up becoming a handsome young man with long brown hair and now looked like that he could date any girl that he wanted to date.
His first spider-suit is a black version of the spider-suit with red eyes, red web lines on the costume, and a red spider-symbol on the chest and back while having claws on his fingers and retractable spider-legs on the back.
His new spider-suit is still a black suit but now the mask looks like Spawn's mask, a big white spider symbol on the chest and back, red gauntlets and boots, and a red cape with a hood that originally looked Doctor Strange's cloak.
As for civilian clothing, it's usually various due to the events taking place in live-action and looking to be in real life as well since most people still dress in different clothing.
As for his spider-monster form, it gives him brown fur on his skin, his hair fallen off, 6 red eyes on his face, spider teeth, claws on his nails, spider-legs on his back, his shirt being ripped to shreds, and his pants being left of his clothing.
Powers and Abilities[]
He has the same powers as Spider-Man but more upgraded via his webs being organic, his senses alerting him to even harmless people, the ability to communicate with spiders, and having retractable spider-legs on his back.
However, he also has an ability of becoming a spider-monster that likes to feast on humans or targets anyone that is seen as a threat to Patton, almost like a protector for him.
Weakness[]
His spider-bite still harmed him as well due to the effects of the transfer being a little painful via headaches, stomach aches, possible heat stroke or exhaustion, and scary visions.
However, his spider-monster transformation is even worse via his other eyes opening up painfully, his teeth falling out for the spider-teeth, his nails getting ripped in half from the claws growing, and the spider-legs coming out of his back painfully.

- He is somewhat similar to Brightburn due to both of them being villains that are based on a superhero but unlike how Brightburn was seen as a pure evil monster, Dark Web is a tragic and sympathetic villain who started off as a good person who was abused and bullied by his murder victims first to the point that fans would be rooting for Dark Web and even cheering him on when he successfully kills those that wronged him.
- Not to mention, his bullies are downright evil monsters that caused these events with what they've done to him such as actual abuse, rape, and a lot worse to the point that you don't blame him for attacking them.
- Unlike Peter Parker, Patton's abusive uncle and aunt never taught him the motto and are instead 2 of the people responsible for turning him evil.
- And unlike Peter Parker, Patton takes the bullying way too seriously and shows why you shouldn't mess with him, although this is understandable because the bullying is now increased into an even worse abuse right now.
- Whenever Marvel Universes react to him on fanfics or gacha life, they are horrified by this and even sometimes sympathetic towards him for what path he's fallen towards, especially when even he's horrified by what he's becoming.
