Darkrai is the main antagonist of the 2021-2022 fanfiction Pokémon: The Lost Child written by Ordeaux26. He is the leader of the villainous criminal organization The Brotherhood as well as the master of Aegislash and has some sinister goals. His identity was unknown for half of the fic until it was revealed in Chapter 20.
Personality[]
Not much is known about Darkrai's personality as of now other than that he is very ruthless willingly murders minions without a second thought, and ordering massacres and murders simply to get rid of any problems to his, as of now, unknown plan for the world.
History[]
Darkrai in the past was one of the gods created by Arceus. However, he along with the rest of the gods rebelled against Arceus and eventually imprisoned him for his poor treatment of them. However, all of the gods would start fighting each other for control over the world, one of which was Darkrai, who founded The Brotherhood in an effort to take over the entire world. However, at some point, Arceus would use Darkrai's son Aegislash as a way to get him to help him under the threat of something bad happening to happen. It is implied though that Darkrai was trying to work against him subtly.
Darkrai's identity is not revealed until Chapter 20 but before then he makes a few scattered appearances often just being called "The Leader" or "Master". He first shows up like this during the end of "Foresight" when he murders Magmortar simply for his failure. When Aegislash starts getting involved heavily, he is often seen communicating with Darkrai, updating him on what is going on, and taking orders from him with Darkrai continuing to allude to his unknown plan.
His identity is eventually revealed in the two-parter "Close Combat", first he sends Aegislash along with Golem and Simisage to deal with a Zoroark that has been causing them problems. The three of them fail to get rid of them and Darkrai has Golem severely punished but spares Aegislash any sort of punishment. He then reveals to Aegislash his brand new creation a Dark Empoleon with powers far beyond anything Empoleon can have. He tests out Dark Empoleon by having him battle Aegislash and is able to force Aegislash to surrender. Darkrai is pleased with this result and sends Dark Empoleon out to hunt down and kill Empoleon, Sceptile and Zoroark, also able to know anything Dark Empoleon knows.
Darkrai shows up in the next chapter "Scald" where he is mostly observing what Dark Empoleon is doing and giving him occasional orders. Dark Empoleon is defeated at the end of the chapter by being tricked into using his own powers to collapse a cave on himself. Darkrai afterward shows up to where Dark Empoleon was and frees him using his powers, Dark Empoleon talks which causes Darkrai to realize that his brainwashing is starting to wear off, he then re-brainwashes Dark Empoleon and presumably sets him to hunt down Empoleon and Sceptile again.
Darkrai makes a few more appearances mostly giving Aegislash some information like in the chapter "Water Shuriken". Darkrai's next major role comes in the two-parter "Hydro Cannon". Darkrai is now speaking directly through Dark EMpoleon and sends Dark Empoleon to eliminate Empoleon and Sceptile. Dark Empoleon has an extremely long and gruelling battle with them Dark Empoleon is nearly able to win multiple times but they are barely able to fend him off. Darkrai eventually in an attempt to secure victory has Dark Empoleon rip apart the tectonic plates to separate the heroes to make them easier to take down. However, this backfires when it causes Deoxys to get involved due to Darkrai messing with nature. Dark Empoleon ends up defeated and when Darkrai knows he is angry but still has his plan going on.
Darkrai plays his biggest role in the next two-parter "Dark Void". Darkrai is in the final stages of getting his planning ready. During it, Empoleon, Sceptile and Aegislash infiltrate the base of The Brotherhood but due to a tip-off from Greninja they capture Empoleon and Sceptile and Darkrai sends the two off for execution. Darkrai hands Greninja full access to the control panel despite Aegislash's suspicions as Darkrai now thinks that Greninja is fully trustworthy (not knowing they are Zoroark in disguise).
Darkrai gives a speech to his followers and then has Aegislash get out the machine that he plans to send a massive dark void across the entire world to trap everyone in an eternal nightmare so The Brotherhood can rule the entire world. However, due to some interference from Zoroark the machine ends up backfiring and knocking Darkrai out. Darkrai eventually wakes up and retreats to his lair to figure out what went wrong. During which, the heroes break into Darkrai's lair to confront him. Darkrai learns that Greninja was Zoroark in disguise and Darkrai is enraged that he was tricked, he hits Empoleon with a dark void and then battles with Zoroark. Sceptile wakes up Empoleon and the two go off to destroy Darkrai's machine while Zoroark is battling with him. Darkrai has Dark Empoleon try and protect the machine but Empoleon and Sceptile use him to destroy the machine.
Darkrai is moments away from killing Zoroark but when Empoleon and Sceptile inform Darkrai that his machine has been destroyed Darkrai retreats in a rage. Darkrai then talks to his mysterious father who declares that Darkrai has failed and, despite Darkrai's pleasing, the Pokémon causes a massive explosion in the Brotherhood's lair that wipes out nearly the entire Brotherhood including Darkrai himself.
It is later revealed that Darkrai is Aegislash's father by Aegislash himself, who did survive the explosion.
