Darktoon is the secondary villain-turned-supporting character of Rayman Redemption, a 2020 fan remake of the 1995 Video Game, Rayman. He is Mr. Dark's right hand who often appears throughout the game to fight Rayman until Mr. Dark strips him of his power due to his constant failures. Darktoon would later redeem himself by the end of the game.
Appearance[]
Like other Antitoons, Darktoon is a black sphere with a pair of eyes, a pair of white glove-like hands, a pair of purple shoes and a single silver string of hair. What seperates Darktoon from other Antitoons, however, is that he wears a purple cloak. After Dark strips him off his power, all that remains of Darktoon are his eyes and hair.
Synopsis[]
Darktoon makes his first appearance at the end of the game's first stage, "Pink Plant Woods" after Betilla tells Rayman about the Toontotems. He tells Rayman that he'll beat him easily but without Betilla creating a Power for Rayman to help him win the battle. Throughout the battle, Darktoon shoots balls of energy at Rayman and morphs into a ball and bounces all over the place. After Rayman bests him, Darktoon makes his leave and tells Rayman that he won't be able to defeat Mr. Dark.
Darktoon returns in "Tempest Terrors". He expresses annoyance that Rayman had bested Mr. Stone and fights him to make sure he doesn't reach the second Toontotems. The fight is mostly the same as in the Pink Plant Woods, except now Darktoon can get dizzy at times, giving Rayman an opportunity to attack. After Rayman defeats him again, Darktoon tells him that he'll get him next time before leaving.
In the stage "Molten Depths", Darktoon shows up once more to fight Rayman again. In this fight, Darktoon bounces on the platforms in the battle arena and uses his powers to make stones fall from the ceiling. Rayman has to lure Darktoon into getting hit by one of the falling stones to deal damage. Darktoon is defeated once again. He tells Rayman that Mr. Skops will take care of him and takes off.
When Rayman reaches Candy Chateau, Darktoon appears and attempts to finish off Rayman once and for all. However, it's not long until Mr. Dark shows up to express his disappointment towards Darktoon. As punishment, Mr. Dark strips Darktoon off of his powers, leaving only as a pair of eyes and a string of hair. Darktoon hops away as Mr. Dark tells Rayman that he's impressed by how far he had come, even if he's just delaying the inveitable for him.
Darktoon doesn't appear again until Rayman reaches the Lone Cliff after Mr. Dark makes his escape to a giant gift box in the sky. Darktoon admits to Rayman that he has grown bored of fighting Rayman and that Mr. Dark was always hostile to others, including him. He tells him to defeat Dark for him while he goes to a beach to relax for a while.
Triva[]
- Ironically enough, there's an enemy in Rayman Origins that's based on Antitoons also named Darktoon.
- He originally wasn't going to redeem himself, instead would have pleaded for a second chance to Mr. Dark, who in turn, would have turned him into the Dark Chimera. It's unknown if he would have redeemed himself after his defeat or would have just been killed off.
