I just love the smell of fear!
~ Death relishing in João 10 Prime's fear after invading his Dream - also his most famous quote.
Be afraid. You cannot run. You cannot hide from me. I will find you.
~ Death corners and confronts João.

Death, is the overarching antagonist of The Manow Show, from the UCJP franchise.

As his name suggests, he is the physical embodiment of Death, except he is the most powerful version of that title. It´s main incarnation takes the form of a skeleton in a black hooded cloak. During the events of the series, Death is personally intent on killing the powerful interdimensional duo that are the Manows (João 10 Prime and Pedro The Human Seal) once and for all. This is a punishment for them (allegedly) being irresponsible with their god-like powers, so Death started an ongoing tormenting hunt against them, as a way to bring true justice to the Omniverse.

Physical appearance[]

Death´s appeareance is ever-changing across his parallel existence throughout the entire Omniverse, It can vary from a wolf, to a ghost, to a skeleton head and even a more abstract form. But his main appeareance is the classic grim figure of a hooded skeleton carrying a two sickles, although he is in a slightly more cartoony artstyle to fit The Manow Show.

He also has a sinister appeareance on the dark, with glowing purple and white eyes. Death also holds the signature scythe from "Puss In Boots: The Last Wish".

After his own episode, Death gains a more classic, slim, scythe-wielding design, reminiscent of the original Grim Reaper. Although it is more cartoony to fit The Manow Show´s artstyle.

Personality[]

Death's personality has varied throughout his infinite versions across the Omniverse. However, when it comes to his most powerful personification, it has mellowed out to be honorable, sadistic, fair and intimidating.

Death is a cunning and sinister individual whose sole and main purpose (supposedly) is to take the souls of the dead. Although he waits in the shadows for people to die naturally, if someone angers or offends him enough, he will physically manifest in order to attempt to take their life by force.

Death also has a more short-tempered side and appears to be annoyed due to the amount of work he’s been receiving. He seems fed up with his co-workers due to the Sorrows of Death Inc. excessively reaping souls, increasing his workload substantially.

Death is sadistic and somewhat thrill-seeking, as he takes a certain degree of pride and pleasure in his job, showcased fully when he invaded João 10 Prime´s dream, just to make him have fear and be afraid. This is also shown in his eerie whistling, and his very presence, and how he teleported the Manows outside of the Omniverse just so they could die as souls who would never find peace.

Death (Manow Show)

Death also admits to having a great dislike of people who abuse their immense powers for "trivial things", stating that they can´t deal with life and deserve Death. He also believes that a device so extraordinary as the Upgraded Omnitrix should not be held by such an immature and unpredictable child, referring to João 10 Prime.

Death In His Regular And Calm State

Death in his regular calm form.

Death is not inherently evil, as his main reason for pursuing The Manows in the first place was to punish them for "playing God" with their abilities and causing a fair bit of chaos with their powers. Representing the neutral force in all of reality, Death holds order sacred (to an obsessive degree) and is disgusted by those who disrupt this balance and that think they can do whatever they want across the Multiverse. This can be seen as a weakness, as Death can get tunnel vision focusing on defeating the anomaly of The Manows, instead of focusing on the big picture and allowing free will to reign across all dimensions.

In general, Death is best described as a harsh, but a fair entity who takes his job very seriously and is more than happy to land out severe punishment against those who disrespect him and his job.

Powers and Abilities[]

Death: Death can liberate the soul or spirit of a living being, and as the embodiment of Death, every lost soul belongs to it. Death can also choose to ignore certain beings, possibly as a mark of respect for their ability to survive.

Death Embodiment: At the most fundamental level, Death possesses key physical characteristics and/or personality traits related to the concept he is personifying, having a skeleton theme.

Death Derivation: Death is the source of all death in every living being everywhere, directly to cosmic/Omniversal scales.

Undead Creation: Death can create undead beings/spirits to aid him in battle.

Nigh-Omnipotence: Death, itself, is a cosmic level entity, and being the most powerful personification of that makes him more than capable of achieving virtually any effect desired (within sometimes a few limitations ).

Nigh-Omniscience: Death knows almost everything in the Omniverse, and has great knowledge in many things, also possesing Cosmic Awareness in an Omniversal scale.

Parallel Existence: Death exists in every reality and is aware of it. He is able to exist in every parallel universe or parallel timeline while having an absolute existence in every parallel universe.

Dimensional Travel: Death can freely travel and teleport himself to other dimensions. As well as teleport other living beings to different dimensions, as he did with Dr. Animo.

Metamorphosis: Death is capable of instantly altering his form at will, allowing him to appear as anyone or anything in every shape and size.

Immortality: Being the most powerful embodiment of death, he would have existed from the very beginning of life. Obviously, Death isn't truly alive and cannot grow old or fall ill and has roughly existed for an eternity.

Invisibility: Death can make himself invisible to others, as he observed the Manows in the beach with no one seeing him.

Intimidation: Due to his power, concept, appearance and presence, Death is universally feared, figuratively and literally by mortals. He can make even the confident and powerful João 10 Prime feel fear. Due to his love from causing fear to his victims, he uses his powers to torment The Manows once in a while the entire series. One of his most prominent and now iconic choices of fear tactics is his sinister whistle.

Sickle Proficiency: Instead of using a scyphe like most personifications of Death, his trademark ability is his skill with the dual sickles he wields, in which he swings with great lethal force. He switches from his sickles back to his traditional scythe after his spinoff episode.

Scythe Proficiency: Instead of Death goes back to his traditional scythe in his spinoff episode, and is very proficient using it.

Dream Manipulation: Death has been shown to be able to invade João 10 Prime´s dream, making it a nightmare while taunting him in an intimidating form.

Dimension Control: Death is capable of locking a dimension for anyone trying to leave or enter it.

Magic/Necromancy: With his Death Note, Death can conjure powerful magic spells.

Pyrokinesis: Death has total control over fire, which was shown by him conjuring a ring of fire around himself and João when he first confronted the Omniverse Hero.

Biography[]

In the beginning of time and creation, Death was created as one of the few forces to bring balance to all of reality. Alongside the force of all good and the force of all evil.

Eventually, Death created Death. Inc. As the most powerful personification of Death, he has killed Outerversal beings such as Yogiri Takatou and Rene Amamiya. Also killing countless living beings along the way.

Trivia[]

  • Death is mainly based on the folkloric character of the Grim Reaper, whereas the tune he whistles is based on mannerisms and personalities is based on the Death from the Shrek franchise.
  • Continuing the mindset of making most fictional work matter, the idea of Death having multiple canonical interpretations (all equally valid to each other) was the way the writers thought to best handle such a character and abstract concept.
  • The only one Death truly fears is his brother Ellh (the personification of evil), he fears him because of his overwhelming power that even exceeds his own.
  • The events of the game "Have a Nice Death" is adapted to this version of Death.
