Izuku Midoriya, also known as Deku, the One For All Hero, Bully Man, Street Killer Deku, and Deku the Street Slasher, is a recurring meme/joke chracter in the DEATH BATTLE fandom, originating on the r/deathbattle, r/deathbattlematchups, and r/powerscaling communities on Reddit.

Origin[]

The meme originated from the July 2025 episode of the webseries DEATH BATTLE, which pits characters from different series and franchises against each other in a battle to the death. The episode featured Deku from My Hero Academia battling Miles Morales from Marvel Comics. Prior to the episode's release, the victor of the battle was heavily debated. When the episode released, Deku emerged as the victor. A slander campaign began from upset fans of Miles, labeling Deku as a "bully" who could only achieve victory against a "street tier" (in powerscaling debates, characters are often categorized by destructive/survival capabilities; "street tier" is the level given to those with superhuman capabilities that are usually relegated to/associated with street-level combat, which Deku is considerably above). Slander also came from Deku's previous appearance on the show, in a 2022 episode where he battled Asta from the series Black Clover and lost, stating that he could only win when given a significantly weaker opponent.

The meme found its way to X with a post from user @Tesso_dan, where Deku was portrayed as angry and violent after his victory over Miles, demanding more "street tiers" (specifically Daredevil and Black Widow, both also from Marvel Comics). The meme began to evolve, portraying Deku as a violent bully that sought out Street Tiers to battle in order to boost his own ego and reputation. The meme began crossing over with other memes/in-jokes in the DEATH BATTLE community, and later evolved again. Deku was portrayed as having gained the ability to defeat any Street Tier, and that if any opponent was touching a street or road, he gained the ability to defeat them regardless of their true power or scaling. Memes of Deku defeating characters such as Goku from Dragon Ball, Godzilla from the Godzilla franchise, Superman from DC Comics, and Simon the Digger from Gurren Lagann (all of whom are tiered at Multiversal levels) abounded. Additionally, edits of images of the character Kure Raian from the series Kengan Ashura with Deku's hair and features grew popular, depicting Deku as a deranged lunatic seeking opponents.

A seemingly common consensus is that, even with his ability to defeat anyone as long as they are touching a street, Deku cannot defeat Batman from DC Comics, as Batman either has gear that invalidates that ability or owns/bought/branded the street, giving him complete control over it and its properties.

Biography[]

Izuku Midoriya was born into a world where the majority of humans inherently had superpowers. However, Deku did not, causing him to grow up ostracized and bullied. He looked up to his favorite superhero All Might and longed to be a hero like him despite his lack of powers.

One day, a teenage Midoriya saw his classmate Katsuki Bakugo attacked by a supervillain, and rushed in to help. All Might arrived to aid, and seeing Midoriya's selflessnesss, decided to train him as his successor by passing on his power, One For All, to Midoriya. Midoriya accepted and was granted powers, enrolling at U.A. High School to train to become a superhero. Through various mishaps and adventures, Midoriya trained his body and mind to use the powers, as well as took on the superhero name "Deku". His journey to become a superhero would be frought with loss and mistakes, but he soon became among the most powerful students in the school.
