Dolores Madrigal is a character from the "Disney Princesses but they're Villains" series of songs by British musical artist Lydia the Bard. She is a villainous adaptation of the character from the 2021 animated Disney film Encanto, serving as the main protagonist of her song and animatic.

She was voiced by Lydia the Bard.

Biography[]

This version of Dolores's story begins similarly to how it did in the original Disney version: her family, the Madrigals, were blessed with a magical candle that granted members of the family useful superpowers and abilities, as well as a magical sentient house called Casita.

Under the matriarchal watch of the grandmother Alma, the family used their gifts to serve their community. Dolores' power manifested at the age of five, which was superhuman hearing that allowed her to hear even extremely faint and distant sounds. However, because of this, she was constantly hearing everything that went on in the house and nearby town. She would hear every cross word about her or unpleasant sound, but forced herself to drown them out for the sake of her family.

In her adulthood, she began hearing murmurings among her family that their magic was fading. Though Dolores had been aware of her uncle Bruno's prophecy that this would one day happen, Dolores saw an opportunity to aid in the ending of the miracle. Once she did so, she would finally have peace from the constant noise.

Knowing that weakening family connections was what was causing the magic to fade, Dolores set out to intentionally cause discourse among the family to speed up the process, including telling them about the fading magic. She made her cousin Isabella doubt her upcoming marriage to the town local Mariano, who was coincidentally the man Dolores pined for. Finally, she reveals that her cousin Mirabel saw Bruno's vision, causing the family to finally turn on each other. The magic fades, Casita collapses, and the candle goes out, ridding the Madrigal family of their powers just as Dolores wanted.

However, her time of peace and quiet is short-lived, as the family mends their bonds and works to rebuild Casita. To Dolores' horror, when Casita is completed, their powers return. Dolores immediately is overwhelmed by noise again, including gossip about her crush on Mariano. Dolores snaps, and in her rage, a new power awakens: the ability to manipulate noise and force other people to no longer be able to talk. She begins using this power on her family, forcing them to be quiet while reminiscing on the constant noise he had to endure throughout her life. Dissatisfied with just the noise of the Madrigal family being silenced, she goes into town and begins sadistically silencing everyone. Mirabel tries to stop and comfort her, but Dolores is too far gone on her newfound power trip and lust for revenge and pushes her away, continuing to silence the town.

Dolores only pauses when she sees Mariano. In that moment, she is overpowered by her cousins Louise and Isabella, who trap her. Despite her defeat, Dolores simply smiles, knowing noise will never return and she will at last be able to live in peace and quiet.

Personality[]

This version of Dolores is stressed and overwhelmed by her powers, and goes to treacherous and violent means to try and make people quiet. After obtaining her new power, she shows a sadistic, revenge-fueled side that is happy she is taking things away from others.
