Come near me, and he dies. (Jack: No. You won't kill him.) Don't you see? I have to do this. I have to win. That's all I was made to do. They don't care about me or if I die. Only if they win.
~ Don's speech before his final fight with Jack and his team.

Don Hunter is the main antagonist of the 2021 dystopian web story 330 Hours. He is a young man from the corrupted country of Yofren who is contending in the latest Program (a series of decennial games where young men from different countries are forced to fight to the death for their country to win world leadership).

Biography[]

Don was once a sweet, sensitive, and selfless child. He was completely innocent and never thought about himself, and for his birthday, all he wanted was food and money so he could donate them to poor people. He was very talented too and constantly played music and wrote poems for his parents when they were feeling down.

However, at a young age, he was kidnapped by the government of Yofren where he spent the remainder of his childhood being put through all kinds of torture, brainwashing, forced training, and genetic alteration, essentially molding him into an inhuman killing machine.

During the summer of 8442, Don was chosen to be the team captain of the Yofrenian contenders. He was taken to a government building where he spent the next two weeks preparing and resting before the Program started.

After those two weeks passed, the contenders were taken to an island to compete, and at the very moment the Program began, Don committed his first murder, and he spent most of the Program gunning down, stabbing, assaulting, and torturing the other more vulnerable contenders to death.

When Jack Lane (the main hero of the story) stole his weapons, Don and his team captured him and tried to force him to reveal the location of the weapons. Jack refused to, forcing Don to keep him alive. This gave Jack an opportunity to escape.

Jack and his team began using strategic methods to defeat Don's team. On the other hand, Don managed to kill two of Jack's team members as well, as he beat Jamie to death when the latter tried to attack him and stabbed Martin as revenge for killing Tom and Wallace.

Eventually, Don got his hands on Caesar and threatened to kill him and Jack before Caesar broke free and escaped. This led to a car chase that ended with both cars exploding, getting Don's final surviving teammate Joe killed while Don, Jack, and his remaining teammates escaped from the cars before the explosion.

An extremely brutal fight followed, and Don managed to withstand almost all of Jack, Lee, and Caesar's attacks and withstood being speared in the chest, stabbed in the face, and thrown off a balcony. Don broke Caesar's neck during the fight too.

Jack and Lee ran onto the top of a tower at the edge of the island before Don made it up there as well and fatally shot Lee. Jack retaliated by shooting Don multiple times with a machine gun. Don fell off the tower and was eaten alive by a group of mechanical sharks who were guarding the island.

Trivia[]

  • Despite being the main antagonist of the story, Don rarely speaks, and he has a total of sixteen lines in the entire story, none of them being any longer than ten words. Half of them occur during his interrogation of Jack, and the other half occur while he is holding Caesar hostage. He otherwise relies on his henchmen to do the speaking and remains completely silent during his final fight with Jack and his team.
    • A dream sequence in the sequel, however, has him begging for help while being ripped apart by sharks (while the original scene in the first story just had him screaming).
