Cillian Darcy, commonly known as Dr. Ivo Gerald Robotnik, also referred to as "Dr. Eggman," is the main antagonist of Tim Burton's Sonic.
He is a despotic mad scientist and a sadistic supervillain who uses his great intellect in his plans for world domination. He became the arch-nemesis of Sonic the Hedgehog.
During the film's climax, it is revealed that Robotnik is an alternative future self of Cillian Darcy, who wants revenge for his father's abusive behavior. He then became in conflict with his past self, who opposes him and his plans for world domination.

However, in the post-credits scene, in the deep inside of the now-destroyed Robotnik's HQ, it is revealed that Robotnik and his robotic counterpart uploaded their consciousness, data, and DNA into a new body. For he takes up a new body out of the selection present. It is revealed at this point that he swears revenge by going by the name "Doctor Eggman," before descending into maniacal laughter.
